Thanks again for the nice comments. The carbon fiber is slow going. I've never done this many decals on such irregular surfaces so it gets frustrating at times. But the rest of the interior is coming along. I built up the seats with glazing putty to make them more plush than how the kit had them. And the body is decaled and ready for clear!

What non-auto model did you get today?

Or fat thumbs me trying to post using my phone! -
The body mods you did fit the car's style perfectly. And the color combo is awesome! I don't normally like yellow Ferraris but the carbon fiber accents and the red seats hold their own against the yellow and balance it out. Nice work.

Hit the bottom floor pan with some body color. Here's where all the different greys add alot of contrast to the under side of the car. Engine is glued into place! I used the '62 Corvette kit radiator and modified the shape and added an electric fan. After touching it up, glued it into place as well. I scrounged the parts bin and found the computer out of a Viper kit. Cut it apart and they should make a convincing setup in the Vette. Body got it's final coat of color. Just needs to be rubbed down and the clear coats can start!

Thanks. I went grey paint shopping one day to find all the right shades for this build. It's cool how so many boring colors are coming together to look pretty cool. I get to start the carbon fiber decals soon too!

Painted the engine and put it back together The engine is a combination of parts out of a '98 Camaro and the Corvette C6 kit Brakes off the C6 kit I tried to replicate the hammered look powder coat on the chassis. The first color coat is on. This will have the original chrome and a few carbon fiber accents. Thanks for looking and any comments are welcomed.

This is the main project on my bench right now. It is a replica of a friend's car. The actual car has a full C5 drivetrain. The model will not have the full modern suspension so hopefully he never turns it over. ;-P I've been doing a bunch of trimming and scratch building to get the engine set up like the original and the car sitting on the modern wheels and tire. First I reorganized the accessories to match his setup. The original kit setup Moved and added some idler pullies and relocated the AC compressor. The pullies were held in place with tacky glue. New belts were made out of styrene strips. after the plastic weld set I carefully pryed the whole assembly off and was very happy everything stayed together! Test fitting the engine. Needed to take a little off the fender wells to make room for the new engine. On the real car the AC accumulator is tucked in the fender so I cut apart some spare AC lines from a couple old S-10 kits and glued them together so they'll disappear just like the real ones. Bent the air intake out of solder.

Lost the last update on the Ferrari. Wired the engine with stripped Cat5 cable. I picked up the extra parts from the Monte Shell F40 so this one will have the big brakes and a few other upgrades from that version.

Amazing job on this kit. nothing better than a nice SS. Color is awesome too, looks great and shows off the shape of the car very well.

Thanks. I used a .026" bit too drill the holes. The wire fits right in without forcing it so well be easy to get in place when there's not much room and tweezers for leverage. A little dab of epoxy should be more than enough to keep them in place.

Started this Tamiya F40. It's being built along side another project so it won't go together very quickly but I wanted something to post to keep myself motivated. Planning on building it mostly box stock although I have decided that I'm going to wire the ignition. It won't be very visible on the completed model but I want to display it with the engine cover up. It looks like it should build up to a nice replica. I wish there was more detail to the under side of the engine cover however. They dont really include any of the baffles that distribute the air all those ducts bring in. Oh well. The engine itself is coming together nicely. Stripped some Cat5 wire that looks to be in scale, holds its shape well, and bends easily. The fun part will be that the two parts come together at a step which will make it interesting to match up the wires. Also getting the interior started. I am going to use carbon fiber decals to get the correct appearance of the floor and seats. This is my attempt to replicate the gray carpet that is on the dash. Comments welcome, happy building!

Gary's (impcon) thread about restoring old models and glue bombs reminded me that I never posted the finished result of this restoration. Here they are side by side. You can really see the difference the slab side makes in this picture. Also the small amount added to the bottom of the rear qurter. these pictures show how much higher quality the Slixx decals were compared to the Box decals below. One last shot to show off the new body work. Thanks for looking.

I believe the "lost wax" process is when they encase the wax piece in plaster or something similar. When the plaster sets it is heated and the wax melts out. Then the molten metal of your choice is poured in. After that cools the plaster can be easily broken and washed away leaving a metal replica of the wax piece. These are some cool projects and it makes me excited about what will be possible in the near future!

This is going to be sweet! Good start.

Those are some good saves! Rescuing a model is very rewarding. Here's one I did a while ago: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=43476&page=1

Your Skyline is looking good! Bummer about the decal. I'd give Tamiya customer service a call. I needed a window for one of their kits and they were very helpful. Price is reasonable too. Showed up in less than a week.

I don't know why I'm weighing in on this but Harry your Bob and Tom analogy is a little too black and white. Say Bob and Tom meet at a stop light on their motorcycles. They decide to race. Half way down the block witnesses say they see Bob side swipe Tom and they crash. Tom dies. Bob is tried for the murder of Tom. evidence from the crash site shows that road debris caused Bob to loose control and veer into Tom causing the accident. He is found not guilty of murder. Now. Tom's family can still sue Bob for damages. Because he was in the race with Tom he is partially responsible for the events leading to Tom's death. Had he not agreed to race, it's very likely Tom would still be alive.

Now that's, a super truck! I really like the color you chose. -
Picked up the Revell Snap-tite Diablo Roadster kit to work on along side my main builds. It is a really nice kit and goes together very well. A little painting is all it takes to put together a good looking car. Painted Testors One Coat Fiery Orange with Wet Look Clear. Feel free to comment.

Tamiya kit, basically box stock. Painted Sublime Green, simulated carbon fiber pattern on the hood and wing, and an custom tail pipe. This is the first Tamiya kit I've built and it was very nice. Definately recommend one if they make a kit of a subject you like! A few progress pics here. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=80832 Comments welcomed.

Ha ha! I like this one! I'll have to try and come up with a clever one.

Wow that's a cool Skyline! Never seen one like that before. I dig that style and you're kit looks great. Nice work so far, can't wait to see more!

Very nice build. "The Spam Can" I did it! I'm not a Ford guy and I loved this style Thunderbird.
