  1. Hey Doc.....My 1:1 painter has one and uses it for large graphics on motorcycles...I've tried it twice and used it for clearing. I did a plaque with decals and wanted to shoot clear over it...worked sweet with the fan tip. It was wide If I remember about a 4" wide pass at low pressure (22psi)....I like the trigger, but it is different than an A/B more like a detail gun.
  2. Mike ..pm me and give me your phone#...I can talk you through it The Other Mike (great name btw) is right on...I post most of my pics in original size...roughly 11" x 14". if you use a host site like the bucket, you can too!
  3. Ahhhh Doug....Harry does get it, and you do to, as I quote you "Silver Streak was a name Pontiac associated with there cars as a sales gimmick" I think all the factory sales brochures I have now seen show its a Torpedo ..... badge or not. "The name Silver Streak was promoted in the ads by Pontiac in 1937" and was changed in '41 to Torpedo.
  4. Gotta stick with Harrys facts this is from a '67 CHALLENGER... And this is from a '49 Torpedo... I too said "Silver Streak" and found the facts.....
  5. testors sells little bottles of accelerator....I picked up a bunch when wally world sold them.....got them cheap....they came with a small bulb applicator....all I use.
  6. For 1942, the Torpedo name was assigned to the A-bodied Pontiac while the Streamliner became the B-bodied Pontiac. The grille got horizontal bars, while the headlamps were placed farther apart. Most Torpedoes continued to have the notchback styling found on the Deluxe Torpedoes. However a new body style to the A-bodied Pontiac was a 5-passenger 2-door Sedan Coupe which had fastback styling similar to the Streamliner. After Dec. 15, 1941, the Torpedo received wartime 'black-out" trim, which meant that all the chrome pieces were painted in Duco Gun-Metal Grey.[1] In 1946, the first postwar Pontiac's looked very similar to the pre-war models. The dash contained full instrumentation with round gauges. The engines were the same. The 4-window 4-door Metropolitan Sedan and the 2-door Club Coupe were discontinued. 1947 Torpedoes received a new "Chief Pontiac" hood ornament. An 8-tube radio became optional.[7] 1948 was the last year for the Torpedo. The Hydramatic automatic transmission became optional.[9] Base price was $1,500. http://en.wikipedia....Pontiac_Torpedo
  7. I can agree with Ed and others....but I too am another old fart....never ashamed of it..just fact... NOW zoom ahead to 2012....you as a 25 yr old dealership technician...You better know or be able to learn to do all that "electrical stuff"....or you won't make a living. My 26 yr old son is a certified BMW tech...goes up to SC for weeks of training and knows computers (CARS) that have 4 wheels and purr...and makes good $$$ . So for us older guys...we will prob never use a paddle shift, but technology is here to stay.
  8. Good luck...As Art said...ypu only need a little powder. Let us see your results
  9. I do not like it...as I prefer my lacquers, but it will work well...but use Tamiya t20 thinner for a/b.....and clean your a/b right when done shooting acrylics.
  10. I agree with Jason on the white base... And Richard brings up the issue I have with the ONE COAT Lacquers....WAY TOO THICK...I have found you need to really decant and A/B for the best use, BUT you can heat those full cans after shaking for 3 min...then reshake and back up a bit...it will mist with the correct distance, and keep it turning and spraying till covered....let it set for 15 min...look at it for missed spots or striping....reshoot warmed / shaken can and remist. Let sit for 15 min..NOW do it with your clear...same way, same windows. The clear will need 2 or 3 thin even coats for the pearl to pop! To me thats a lot of work, as I prefer to shoot jacquards Pearl X in my first clear coat..then bury it with 3 or 4 more thin coats....WOW !!!!
  11. If Boyds / Testors color...use what the old man says...I heard if you cut it 2 parts clear to1 part CHEEP lacquer thinner, the gloss can blind the common man......
  12. That is a toughie to cut. I might suggest wrapping masking tape around it to protect the windshield. measure your cab after ALL bodywork is done, measure and mark your top cut, use a razor saw and slowly cut 3/4 down to the line....then use a sanding stick to finish. If your lucky width will not be an issue...if width is an issue due to your cutting, you can try to bend some acetate..I can't..mayby you can. With a flatter window, clear acetate works great. As a matter of fact, I used acetate for the front window on this chopped '37...but I used the "stock" window, uncut in the rear....I planned that before I cut the body..
  13. what kind of tape and paint did you use?
  14. Yep I caught that Taylor.....But our good Dr had it published in MCM...in October 2008. Great technique...yours look great! BTW...I'm Mike
  15. Looks like what Doc cranky has been using for years.. PS...you need your name somewhere. Works on buildings too....Here is the Swamp Werkes and a 37 pu done this way.
  16. The car was easy...The name was another story.....Its the wipers fault.
  17. Perfect Harry!...Only thing I would add is ..."put it in your hands", yep...play with it, find the controls...if you wear glasses can you see thru it to focus correctly ? do you like the zoom controls ? release feel and sound?....Get what YOU WANT....the salesperson should be able to help....Then make sure you get Lithium batteries.....they ARE worth the $$ I sold and fixed all makes of photographic equiptment...Kodak to Leica for 25 years. Its your money...be comfy and you will take better pictures!
  18. You can Z the frame, and use a dropped axle...as all of these show. Follow my signature to photobook for many WIPs
  19. As I started that pearl x mess...I will also say Future and the A/B don't like each other well. I put my pearl x in TS 13 and shoot 1 coat, then cover it with more clear. I have done 15 or more that way...If you want different pearls, you can shoot them mixed together or one per coat. This Impy has 3 pearls in the clear...It is subtile..but the roof and interior are the same base in this pic...Pink, silver, and white flakes were used.
