Paint drying time
MikeMc replied to sportandmiah's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have shot lots of tamiya acrylics (small jar ) and they work well, do not dry as hard, lot more fiddly with coats, thinner is VERY CRITICAL use tamiyas own. you can clear with future or tamiya clear...I use lacquer clear when color is dry I wanted to shoot custom colors..HOK . My technique is about the same as Donns..less paint and pressure. All airbrushing is practice and consistancy...EXACTLY what Donn does...KISS ? I prefer KITS....Keep It The Same..... -
I think the mechanics are the tops. Well done sir. IMHO The floor is just not there for me...I think it might be the width of the planks? This scale is 1/2" = a foot. What width are you trying for?..Scale planks would be no wider than 10" to 12" max. I did a smaller overhang on my dio...what did you do the roof with?

Paint drying time
MikeMc replied to sportandmiah's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I love Donn and his results...they speak for themselves. But unlike Donn I know there are other paints that will work just as well. The trick is simple...its called time and practice. Each medium has its own quirks and respray windows. I note Donn waits to clear his jobs...With Tamiya lacquers there is a window 15 min per coat "flash time"...shoot your clear in this same window or wait 30 days to clear. All paints have correct viscosity, mix ratios , and how they like to be shot. I suggest once comfy with Donn's way, get some other books...Bob Downies come to mind..and learn the other mediums. I am experimenting with Donn's enamels (YES REALLY!!) and Auto Air water based...and they all shoot differently! Check with the paint mfgrs for their msds and data sheets...I have HOKs and they are the bible. -
The Photographer is Darin Schnabel..He shoots a lot of autos for RM....this one is from the same shoot...note the background. Google Darin and see some of his sweet automobile pictures...hot rods to classics

Yep......What was photoshopped ?
-
Sorry.....I routinely look at most photos on ADC got it Eon's ago for an old Sony disc digital camera... My guess is still real....never seen a classic model with a bumper sticker and a few other facts.
-
Mark....There is still plenty of resolution in this picture...I have an old piece of software called ADC..simple photo software...I viewed this same picture after clicking auto enhance and the balance / gamma line changed it....the front wheel caliper is very visible at 9:00...along with the rear wheel weight . If harry can photoshop..so can you

Weathered models, beaters, and wrecks.
MikeMc replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The level "you" build to is a personal call. I have built only 1 "weathered" truck..it was much harder than a shiny , BMF'd , and detailed build I like to do. We have to be PC here..but a lot of it still comes down to bad pictures....with or without details...But as Dr C will tell you...weathering takes time and patience. -
Like this??

Boyd Coddington´s famous cars...

Google is only as good as the input.....vague questions will give unusual results. Specific detailed inquiries (correct order of facts) will result in great searches. -
I can't see any DRUM brakes on this car...looks like 4 wheel disc's to me...I can't see any levitation..shadows are on the ground plane...

Along with BBs store all jar paints upside down...It does seal much better...I grabbed some old Floquil solvent paints stored this way for OVER 15 years, stirred, added a drop of thinner and they sprayed like new!!

Boyd Coddington´s famous cars...
MikeMc replied to Drago's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've got a few of "Boyds " kits...All the kits I remember were duds...I think this was the only finished one I have..the coupster, vanster, and smoothster all share the same horrors..warpage, fit, interior We do not even mention this '32.... -
Exactly!!

I'm not sure how I forgot your detailing when oil cans came up....like the soda machine in your last Dio !! These oil cans will make this a slam dunk!!!
-
Did a bit of chassis work...took as much from the front as I could..I don't like the wheelwells..but I will finish them up and add a bit of a flare. the rear is pretty much set.A bit more work on the tires...they seem rough...The motor set back loks tight , but should work. I forgot how bad the fit was on the hood and fenders...I am thinking of adding a intercooled turbo but not too sure yet..still have oiling to work out and a few other bugs....
