  1. This one has always been my favorite.
  2. Narrowed. 2cm from the rear, tapering to 3cm in the front. And don't sweat the wheel choice, its been changed. Next up is to build a chassis and set the wheelbase. Chassis will be from the Revell '53 flipnose p/u, it fits perfectly. I'll admit I'm not looking forward to modifying that grill. The stock tail lights are intact, just closer together. I will be using a small block after all. More soon.
  3. Check the roll cage. What is this plastic piping he is using? It looks clear?
  4. Looks good Stu! The side profile for the GTO. I figure thats pretty close. I'll be attempting the narrowing today. I figure I'll start at 3/4 of an inch in the rear to 1 1/4 inches in the front
  5. So do I. I was just suggesting a possibility why there aren't more comments.
  6. Looking good Karl. First blood! I will be spending a lot of time shaping before I move onto the next alteration so I know the bonds are solid.
  7. Any time a car is customized in such a way to be generally mechanically unhealthy for the car, us old timers rail against it. Nothing personal to the builder, Luis does excellent work. It's just a case of, "If you can't say something nice............".
  8. I have met several folks from the forum face to face at local shows. Some good people and excellent modelers. I won't name them because they might not want folks to know, they know me.
  9. Are you guys seriously arguing about this? To the thread originator - why would you want aluminum to look rusty and what does that have to do with modeling?
  10. I do just a few local contests. And happily, I have yet to experience any issue with mega detailed builds beating one that had superior craftsmanship. I have been invited to judge at the one IPMS show I do and they put me with the most experienced judges to train me how to do it. They taught me to look for the following. 1. Cleanliness- Mold lines, flash, ejector marks, visible glue. 2. Fit - does everything fit right? Four wheels touching ground? 3. Finish- is the painting done well and appropriate for the model? Thats about it. If the models are a tie after those three points, then we can add points for modifications. If you are at a contest where they do not judge that way, then don't go back. When builders stop coming they will get the message. My contest peeve is when the entire contest is judged by popular vote. But that is a rant for another thread.
  11. I did some math this morning. First I scaled the side image of Gary's rendering down until the size of my 1/24 rear tire (and I picked a tall one) matched the image. Then I got out my ruler. I will have to change the wheelbase from 115" to 109" - very do-able. Change the cars overall length from 206" to approximately 148". Almost five feet shorter. The height of the car to a scant 27" from the top of the highest point of the rear fender to the rockers. The height of the body where the engine is, is only 22" ! It is obvious that building the drawing perfectly to scale would be nearly impossible and still have room for a V8. So I'm going to have to take a much more liberal approach to building this machine. And I'm not even going to try to scale the narrowing of the body. I foresee my biggest challenge is going to be narrowing the grill area to the width of a '41 Chevy grill and still include the headlights and make it recognizable as a GTO. The cutting begins this weekend.
  12. Apologies to Chicago fans, I just couldn't resist.
  13. Then you should do something odd here like have the back wall all graffiti'd up. It won't effect the interior of the dio in the least, but when they do get around to the outside, they don't get what they expect.
  14. Looking good. Lets see some more.
  15. I have never tried something like this. But guys like Ira and John T. have got me so jazzed to try my hand at some serious body work. The worst that can happen is one bad kit is trash. I'm spending no money on this, everything from the parts bins. Accumulated parts so far. Chassis and suspension - 40 Ford pick up. Engine- Chevy big block. Wheels/tires - Chevy SSR Interior- No idea Windshield - working on it.
  16. More and more impressive. I'm very glad you started sharing here Jim.
  17. I have very few old or rare kits. Maybe two. Both Johans. But I would not own something for very long if I don't plan on building it. I will build both Johans.
  18. Agreed. The use of different scales to give a forced perspective is genius. Well done.
  19. Very cool!
  20. Superb!
  21. Derick, I have added you to the list with the rest of us masochists. Okay now that I have permission from the artist I present you with the inspiration and the design for my GTO. Gary Campesi's "Split Personality". I will be building the '67 based on this artwork. It will not be a replica or 3D version, but it will certainly be close. I'd like to thank Gary for permission to post his work and his blessing on my build. If you would like to see more from this excellent artist please peruse the following website. http://www.hubgarage.com/mygarage/GaryC/vehicles
  22. No I'm not. I may have if I'd thought of it earlier, but I'm building mine as a gasser. So the bare interior and the kit chassis are perfect. Incidentally the '37 chassis comes with IFS and a Vette rear end. So it might be good for parts if nothing else. Now regarding my GTO. Man the wheels are turning. I have a plan, an artist rendering and the guts to cut. As soon as I receive permission from said artist I will post up the inspiration for my build. It will involve being chopped, sectioned and narrowed. If Ed Roth and George Barris had gotten drunk together, this might have been the result. Pics soon!
  23. I'd be very interested in a cheater with a white wall insert.
