  1. What kit are they based upon? I've never seen that grill before. Great work.
  2. Grats dude. Wish you many happy years.
  3. Jim, I'm cool with the Bronco. The song mentions a truck and that's perfect. However the RAtM song Maggie's Farm, (a cover of Bob Dylan by the way) does not mention a vehicle of any sort. Any song can inspire a build, even My Ding-a-Ling by Chuck Berry. I was just pointing out that this CBP is for vehicles mentioned in songs of one sort or another. Or at least that was my understanding.
  4. Is the truck actually mentioned in the song? That's sort of the point on this CBP. Some engine work. Just about ready to go. The engine is from the Revell 50 Ford F-1 except the air cleaner is from the AMT 49 Ford. I also scratched a fuel tank but it's not much to see, just a pen tube capped on the sides. I'm thinking a dark blue suede color for the body.
  5. Yeah, that is interesting. I love the build it looks great. Everything looks perfect except those velocity stacks. They are much large diameter than the top of those carbs and as such look a little cartoony. The truck cab on the duece fenders is inspired though. Really nice work.
  6. Yep, gonna be some good hockey.
  7. Nice work. I'm sure he'll appreciate it in years to come. Make sure where ever you store it, is climate controlled. A hot attic will seriously warp a model.
  8. Whoa. I have a reostat for my dremel but never thought to try this. I really want to hear more about this. Where do you get the "mops"? The reason I don't polish, is that I've burned a few paint jobs with polishing pads and man I hate that. But I do have a couple older builds I'd be happy to try this on. MORE INFO PLEASE.
  9. Yeah what he said.
  10. Man, remember the good old days when a persons first model was a glue bomb of mythic proportions? When you could see though only 20% of the glass, the Testors bottle paints brushed on so thick it looked 1/20 scale? Sat on three wheels? Heads on backwards? So full of fingerprints and glue marks? Enter this new guy with paint work that blows your hair back. Ah, nostalgia. I'm guessing this is your first "scale auto" model and that you are a veteran of some other genre. You do very nice work sir, and I look forward to seeing more of it.
  11. Nice work Dave. I like it a lot.
  12. See my note to DIY concerning using baking soda for his rust. Just use a bit more and paint it mud color. Yeah Jim, I'm doing stakesides. I have some of those, and if I can get the stain to match I'll use them. Good idea.
  13. Give the painted area a scrubbing with a toothbrush and some rubbing alcohol. It will help thin that paint down some and reveal the undercoat and feather out the paint breaks. Also on the rust areas, brush on some matte clear, add a lil baking soda for texture (just a dusting really) on the wet clear and when dry color with some thinned rust colored paints, acrylic preferably. On my build. Bed lowered. I think its just right now.
  14. Ahem. Eat crow much? GO BOLTS!
  15. That's just lovely. Good luck.
  16. Yeah, what he said.
  17. I have decided to lower that bed a bit. Probably about 6 mils, leaving 4 mils between the deck and tires.
  18. When I click the Photobucket link in my signiture bar I get a "page not found". I've tried fixing it, but get the same result. Please click my link below and tell me what the result is. If you have no issue then it must be on my end. Thanks in advance.
  19. Another update. Flatbed fabricated. Running boards removed. Spare tire well filled. Further plans. The open areas beneath the flatbed (sides & rear) will be filled with wood panels and then the whole shooting match will be stained using a conbination of acrylic craft paints. Running boards will also be wood and stained to match. Still kicking around the gas tank and the stake sides. I have some trick tail lights planned and mud flaps seem appropriate here. The interior will be functional, nothing fancy. I'm torn between using a bench seat with a mexican blanket or a pair of pony seats. I have a nice banjo steering wheel that should work well. More soon.
  20. YEAH! Now THAT"S a man-cave!
  21. Yeah. I don't do "garden variety" anything when it comes to models. Originality counts. Metal, I do not yet own the '37. I've had it in my hot lil hand a few times now, but when I remember the kits at home yet awaiting my attention, I put it back down. Darn self control! I will do this for ya though. The outside edges of those Ardun heads are 31 millimeters apart. That should allow you to measure against the hood sides on your '37.
  22. The Revell 50 Ford F1. Very nice kit.
  23. A lil update here. I have actually gotten a lot done, but it's hard to tell. The Ardun flattie is in, it will have three deuces and the air cleaner from the the '49 Ford. I'll wire and plumb for ignition, fuel and coolant. The cab has a 4" scale chop.
  24. Hi Gary, I've been checking out the work and I like what you're doing. Also I've some questions. How are you painting these models? Brush paints or spray can? It seems very thick and unrealistic. You mentioned that the paint is burning when you heat it to make dents. To avoid damage like this, do all distressing of the body before paint. It avoids that nasty scorch and is safer for you. Most any damage effect can be made to look realistic using paint effects, like the scorched paint on this Mustang. When you are doing a model like a post apoc vehicle there is so much scratchbuilding and modification that painting has to be done much later in the build than a normal build. This avoids having new equipment / armor added later ruining old paint work, or being made more difficult because it's already painted. As you can see, I've a bit of experience in this genre. I've learned from a lot of excellent builders. If I can help you out, let me know.
