  1. Most of the AMT catalog of kits were made 25 years ago or more (same with Revell actually). They didn't have the advanced tools that they have today when making a kit and in a lot of cases their scale may have been off. At 1/25, 1 millimeter is 1 scale inch. So measuring across the inner diameter of the tire, you might get a idea which tire is closer to scale.
  2. I know exactly what you mean. I just got lucky that my next project car just happened to fit in with an Eagles tune or I'd be watching from the sidelines too.
  3. Feel free to lay one on me anytime Virgil.
  4. My first car was a 75 Olds Delta 88, two door hardtop. Olds 350 small block. I know there is a resin 71 or 72 available but I'm not sure what would be involved in making it a 75. I'll have to look into it.
  5. I hope we'll get some good photos when it happens. I was quite disappointed this thread wasn't more active.
  6. Great project. I'm going to shamelessly steal this idea and do something similar with the 66 wagon and the 70 Impala. Looking forward to seeing this come to life.
  7. Hmm.......I've seen a lot of pics over the years of folks with the massive collections. I find that quite excessive. More than you could build in a lifetime. That would drive me nuts. I can see the upside of having parts galore, but still that's too much. But to each his/her own. My uncle was/is a hoarder. When we cleaned out his place in Queens NY, his 950 sq ft (+ basement) row house was filled to the rafters with stuff. Since we live in FL, we really couldn't salvage much. We called a company that cleans up bad situations like that, and watched it all get thrown away, including a LOT of model kits. I was able to salvage a couple boxes of kits but sadly didn't get much. My uncle is now in a nursing home, where he still manages to hoard. Dad found a drawer full of the lil plastic cups they give him medication in. 600 of them. His kits plus my own stash equal about 52 kits currently occupying shelf space in my hobby area. At the current rate of two a year, I figure I've got plenty to keep me busy. I have a plan. I have my kits in a prioritized list along with whatever ideas I have for the kit. This allows me to figure out what I'm going to need ahead of time and whether I'm going to need a donor kit, parts, supplies etc. I'm pretty darn disciplined at the hobby shop. If I'm there for styrene tubing, that's all I leave with 95% of the time. I don't impulse buy, I don't buy because it might have parts I might need. That way lies madness. I buy about two kits a year, those that I am supremely interested in building, which means I'll probably have 52 kits for the forseeable future. Those of you with the incredible 500+ kit stashes, more power to you and please remember me in your will.
  8. Wrap end of wire with BMF, bend the wrapped end 90 degrees over a sharp angle. A small piece of styrene rod will do for the spark plug. That aughta do it, aside from weathering.
  9. I love the 37 Chevs. Bring it on. Can't wait to see what you have planned. I've built one recently. It channels fairly easily, but that dual leaf front suspension is a pain in the rear to get low and still have engine clearance. Unless you're going to use a more modern set-up like on the Monogram 37 fords.
  10. Okay, here's the scenario. There is a major sink mark or injection pin mark on a part. To address this particular flaw would require a great deal of work or perhaps finding/making a new one. The upside - the location of this flaw is in a spot not normally visible. A person would need to be a contortionist with opti-visors to see it, but it would be visible if a person was looking from every possible angle.. Now what do YOU do in this situation? Get busy with repairs/replacement or paint it and carry on? Just curious.
  11. A beautiful build. I love the small details. The nerf bars are spot on perfect. Welcome to the forum. Can't wait to see what else is up your sleeve.
  12. I've been planning to try this soon. I have a 29 sedan I want to make into a drag rod . Do you also Z the front?
  13. Very nice work. Is this a full detail kit or a curbside. I'd like to see the engine & chassis shots.
  14. Hmm. Strip the chrome. Krylon has a silver spray that is just for plastics. It comes out looking very "steel-ish" or just use steel colored hobby paint. Then create a wash using some black india ink or paint and go to it.
  15. Amyone make one?
  16. Harrison I think you did an excellent job on this. Keep it up.
  17. I just checked out the lyrics to this song. Holy cow, what a hosed up project that would be. I don't think you're gonna get many takers on this one. Evilone is also the only person I can think of who's got enough Caddy parts to even attempt this one. I'd love to see him give it a try though.
  18. Oh man, that site is awesome. I can't wait to try this.
  19. Well this is very cool. I love it when my very next build planned fits into a CBP so nicely. So I'll be doing the flat bed Ford from the Eagles "Take it Easy". For the record it'll be an AMT 34 Ford PU with the optional flat bed.
  20. Did you have to pie cut the roof to get the a & c pillars to line up again?
  21. You KNOW I like this. Right up my alley. Very cool work.
  22. I'd say you have your work cut out for you. Or not ........
  23. I'd like to know about the chop as well. I have a 49 in the planning stages and I'd like to chop the top. Any advice you can give would be appreciated. Looks like you laid the windshield back some.
  24. Thanks very much. Everything I did on that trailer I've learned from the people on this forum. Since taking that picture, I've added a light rust wash to the area between the rust and the painted area so there isn't such a defined line between the two effects. Looks more natural. Fantastically bad.......I like that.
