Looks like the grill/bumper came loose in transport.

When I'm pushing up daisies, I suspect I won't care much what happens to my models. However, I have no firm thoughts on the matter while I'm still among the living. I think my sons would probably keep a favorite of two but I'd like to see the rest sold (built and unbuilt) so that someone else could enjoy them whether they rip them apart and rebuild or keep as is. Models are for building and enjoying. Model museum? Nah, I'm not that good and frankly don't care to be. I'd rather build five models to my satisfaction than build one in the same mount of time that might be museum quality.

I don't know how hot the Model Master Lacquer clear is, but the general rule of thumb is... enamel over lacquers is fine, but lacquer over enamel is risky, I'd try painting your top coat and then your clear on a plastic spoor or spare hood or something to check on compatability.
-
Very nice! I think it looks great. Excellent work.
-
enamel vs lacquers? In a dry climate either is fine. Humidity? Lacquers, hands down. Use a good mask though. Fumes are bad. Look into acrylics too. primers, white or grey? Depends on your top color. Pale color use white, darker colors, use grey. clear coat? apply over decals? prime, paint, decals, clearcoat, then wax? YES! And Bare Metal Foil too! do i have to spray paint at all? i see these larger kind of paint bottles, can i brush with these? or are those for airbrushing? Usually says on the bottle. Airbrushing would be better than rattle cans. oh btw, i recently put the dragula together and i found it difficult. i dont see any child being able to do it. im going to wait for your replys before i start the koach. Take your time. Prep each piece by getting rid of ejection pin marks, mold seams and sink marks. BTW, the full name thing? It is a requirement here. Check out the forum rules. Hope to see more of you here. Welcome to MCM forum.

On the Cougar...........pre-painted fogging? Huh?
-
I'm gonna third that. Mark, your neat little all-aspects-in-one-view photo's are tre chic and all that, but we modelers are all about detail and clarity. Give us five seperate shots, a larger view, better focus please.

Paint I got lots of. Window tint........not so much. Also I'd be afraid of what it might do later on, like the bubbles on diymirage's 'Bee. Thanks for the advice guys. I appreciate it.

'40 Ford Pickup
Jantrix replied to Greg Pugh's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
I'm having trouble with this kit as well. I have a box containing parts from two kits and the cab is from a very old release. The whole car is getting the flat black trewatment, but the flat black blushes badly (Duplicolor lacquer and yes I know flats don't blush, this one does!) on the cab, no matter what I prime with or what temp/humidity level I paint at. It's a real shame because it's a great looking build. Still trying. -
Rat Rod or not?
Jantrix replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The problem with this rat rod debate is that it's subjective. To the average guy, someone points out that "rat rod" with the rust/flat paint/unfinished chop/open engine/misc parts etc, and there-after everything that resembles it is a "rat rod" regardless of it's quality. Because he doesn't know any better. To me the nasty cars that Mark describes aren't rods at all, they're rolling junk, not deserving of the term "rod". To me the rat rod term should apply to the trucksters and super slammed roadsters and coupes. Assuming they are well built and safe of course. The cars that "sorta" look traditional and old, but were really never done that way. They have a "faux" antiqueness. When I built my truckster, my dad had a chat with me about it. "You know.......we never built them like that, back then." Yeah Dad, I know. But I still like them. I think the fad of these wastes of parts/rolling death traps WILL fade and soon. But the rat rod is gonna be around a while I figure. Good thing too or else Cranky will have to resort to shiny paint jobs again. -
I have an AMT "dually" version of this I'll be building later this year. I'm looking forward to it.

Understood. Thanks much.

Whats the best way of going about this? Should I paint the inside of the kit glass? The outside? What kind of paint is going to do the best on this sort of plastic? Especially if I'm painting the inside. Any help would be kindly appreciated.

What I'm refering to is the modelers equivilant of a "Runners High". The "Runners High" is a near mystical state, a long distance runner can find themselves in, where their endorphines have kicked in the turbo boost, and the last five miles just zipped by at a record pace. Tonight I found myself in the state of the Modeler's High. I came home from work with an idea, ate dinner, sat down at the desk and WHAM, four hours zipped by and some serious creativity was accomplished! My desk, usually clear is now a mess of tools, styrene dust and parts. And I feel great! Gonna be hard to sleep. I'm gonna wait til this one is done before I post pics. It's a curbside, so not much to see til it's done. Whew! What a night.

Gary Weckessers Mach 1V Mustang " Finished Photo`s"
Jantrix replied to John Teresi's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Wow. And to think how fast you did this. Amazing work. -
BMF, I don't want to do this.
Jantrix replied to DRG's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don, once you get the first piece laid down on the side trim, get in burnished and trimmed, you're gonna go, "Oh hell yeah", and that will be that. -
Negative. It is sitting on my shelf taunting me right now. I've started my Stude for the Cannonball Run CBP and will likely get them both ready for paint at the same time. This way, I have the painting out of the way while it's still cool and can finish them during the height of the summer. Thanks for looking.
-
I can't believe these words are coming out of my mouth, but that might be a fun box-art build.
-
Wow. That looks amazing. I love the paint color.
-
The nose does sorta need some sort of trim or badges. Have you thought of some classic wide whites and sombreros for this? Since you're going retro, why not carry the idea further?
-
What made you switch?
Jantrix replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
With a few exceptions I think, planes, boats, tanks etc are meant to be built as replicas. There's not much creativity involved. But cars just scream, "Do something original and artistic" in 1:1 and in scale. So loving cars and being a seriously right brained individual, planes and boats vever had a chance. -
Teaser shots....

The possibility of "No Chrome" Kits
Jantrix replied to Dragline's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think only a small percentage of the most proficient modelers among us would appreciate the challenge of this. I for one, would NOT buy a kit without chrome trees if the kit called for chrome parts. -
Kev, I'm really liking this. That hood torn up the center really gives it a WTF?? factor. I'll be keeping tabs on this, keep it going.
