  1. Well it IS a Mopar. So in a pinch you can always paint the hood semi-gloss black and everyone will think you planned it that way all along.
  2. Good question. No idea. But I can do that all the time. I suppose when you spend months on a build you just memorize every detail of what you're working with. You kick it around in your head when you're not working on it, planning this or that. ("Of course I'm listening to you dear.") I have parts that have been with me for 25 years, and I'll use them someday on something, but I know what kits they came from for the most part. Wierd that. I've forgotten my wifes birthday twice (yeah, I know, I'm an idiot ), but I know those headers came off the ZZTop Eliminator I built 25 years ago. Must be drain bamage.
  3. I've had one of my builds there during the Great Post-Apocalyptic Convoy but I've never been in person. It's the closest NNL level event to me here in Tampa. Maybe someday. Thanks for the pics.
  4. Be kind? Dan, you should know by now that we are ALWAYS overly harsh and criminaly critical of ALL new builders, so you are totally out of luck here. Seriously though. I look forward to seeing your work. I like your parts holder/tackle box idea and you are right, taking your time is key to success. Unless you are Doctor Cranky and are building models with a magic wand from Hogwarts.
  5. Agreed. The best way I have found to fill those grooves in the underside is with some appropriate size round stock in the grooves, then add a lil too much Tenax, where it softens up the stock and then mash it into the groove once it's soft. Considering how thin the hood is in those grooves on yours Mike, too much Tenex might do more harm than good, but still Tenax and round or half round stock is your best bet.
  6. Yeper, round these parts we refer to them as Bare Metal Foil. Or if you want something a lil thicker try some aluminum tape.
  7. I have the panel version of this kit. It will be .............challenging to say the least. Liz, this one must be an old build. It's not up to your usual standards. Maybe time for a rebuild?
  8. Also I have had good results adding a little matte clear onto the exposed areas, sprinkle on a little baking soda (texture) and then adding a rust colored wash (acrylic). The baking soda just draws in the pigment and looks very good IMO.
  9. I heartily approve of this project. Go ahead. Blow our doors off.
  10. Okay already! I'm checking out the pictures! No need to get all demanding. Sheesh, some people.
  11. Very nice! Got any cool gasser/racing decals picked for it?
  12. Love it! Looks very authentic.
  13. I spliced in the front end from a 68 Vette. Looks good and sits right. Rear suspension too.
  14. I had no problems getting on the forum.
  15. I agree with Mike. Some masking tape laid before the brush painting would have really cleaned that up. Bare metal foil would be better, but I understand that's not always in the budget or easily obtained. Slow down. The idea here is to get better with every build. Not to make the same mistakes over again.
  16. Thanks for the good advice guys. I can certainly understand the walk then run thought process. But...........I don't believe I'm an inexperienced modeler or lack talent and I figure if I had a good tutorial, there's no reason I couldn't pull it off. I will say this though........I'm sure as heck not going to pay for it. I've never done a chop before because 95% of the time, I don't find it an improvement. The 49 though, as Steve so aptly pointed out, looks just stunning with a good chop. I'm sure I'll figure this out before it's time to get out the zona saw. BTW, Plowboy I REALLY like that 40. You did an excellent job on it. It has a great nostalgic feel and look. The only thing it needs is a nice set of headers in my opinion.
  17. I think this is one of your best works Bruce. Nice one.
  18. Is it just the chop that is making the seats look too large? Nice work Wayne. I really dig the engine.
  19. Excellent point. Let me make a suggestion. In the years I've been on these froums, I can tell you one thing with absolute certainty. The more you limit the ways builders can build, there will be less interest in your CBP. Only a very small percentage of builders here build out of box with any regularity. Throw your OOB build rules away and more people will join. Chargers and Camaros are arguably the most popular cars on the planet, so if you give folks back their creative freedom, you might find more people interested. A second thought. You have two sides of the muscle car trinity here. I think you should add Mustangs of the same years and really get a Chevy, Ford, Mopar competition going. It could be fun.
  20. I just got an AMT 49 Ford and after poking around extensively on the HAMB forum, I've decided to try my very first chop top. But I would like some experienced direction. Has anyone done a tutorial on chopping this kit?
  21. Yep, what he said.
  22. Since my post is being quoted, I'll reply. So you'll break your self imposed silence to complain about my complaining. Okay, whatever. Listen, I didn't bash this guy. I didn't get irate and start insulting him or his work. I just asked that he put in an effort to be more understandable. And quoted the rules we have here, that we all have to follow. I made my point and then I dropped the subject entirely. I do try to be respectful and brief. I'm NEVER so petty as to get someone booted over this sorta thing. I've never tried to get anyone booted. The man does good work. So I'm just ignoring the typed info and look at the pics. If the builder is satisfied with the fact that I'll never know anything about his work aside from what I see, then so am I. As for my spelling, I never claimed I was perfect, but it sure was understandable wasn't it? You didn't have to read it three times, to get my meaning?
  23. I've been using Fun-Tak by Loctite for mocking up parts lately. It's a blue putty for hanging posters and the like. Works pretty well, just keep it out of crevices or its a pain to get out.
  24. Very impressive work. Definitely my kinda builder.
