Jantrix replied to MikeMc's topic in 1:1 Reference Photos: Auto Shows, Personal vehicles (Cars and Trucks)
A vega what? More info please. -
Prismacolor pencils are also top notch for dash detailing.

HINT: frame rails are hollow.

I think it comes down to two things. 1st. You build what you like. Your favorite car that can be done in a variety of ways. 2nd. A good kit. Goes together well, well propertioned, lends itself well to modification. And when these two things come together? Modeling bliss. The 66/67 Charger is my favorite car of all time. I build two MPC versions before the Revell kit arrived. I have built one so far but have three more waiting in the wings. I think you'll find most of us are crazy if you are. And it's a good thing.

Very unique! I like the gloss black into flat black flames you got going on. I like it.

Oh. I understand. Sorry I was unaware this was the case. I'm just sort of used to dealing with the rest of the goons here with massive collections and spare parts left over from 30+ years of building, it didn't dawn on me you guys were newer builders. My apologies. Starting from scratch, $50 is a reasonable limit then. Nope was refering to the plethora of 1/2 full spray cans I've got all over my garage.

How do i create weald detail in putty?
Jantrix replied to Deckerz's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I've used thin solder smashed flat and cut into strips and then distessed with a piece of brass tubing like Agent G described. It's what I used here. -
A comment here if you don't mind. Building a model for under $50 is no mean feat. I do it everytime I finish a project. You want to challenge people? How about a $10.00 build off? This means people have to use parted out kits or rebuilds. Aftermarket is out the window, so they have to figure out a way to detail and bling using low buck methods. They gotta use leftover paints. Utilize those parts bins. If you're gonna challenge builders, challenge them. The one month thing though, that WOULD be a challenge for me. A lot of other stuff would have to be put on hold. Hard to do.

AT THE STROKE OF MIDNIGHT THIS SATURDAY!

Did I miss it? What was it? Was it killed by criticism? Was it cool? Seriously it's Sunday night already! -
Custom parts in current kits
Jantrix replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The really lousy thing is sometimes when you do get custom parts they don't fit at all. I picked up the AMT 66 Tbird with the idea of a cool period custom, but the parts supplied weren't even close to fitting. -
Wow. Very unique. Great work.

And the Tampa Bay Lightning moves on to the Washington Capitals this Saturday! If nothing else comes of this playoff run, at least we gave the Pittsburg fans a use for that little white towel.

One in the works.

Is it still a flathead?
Jantrix replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks to everyone for their opinions. I guess it will ultimately be up to the guys running the show. Zipper, ask anyone who has seen my work........building for myself is what I do. I do however enjoy competing a couple times a year and was just wondering if this build fits their theme. -

Quick update. 4.5 inch chop in the works. Third photo shows a real good reason to have the top off. Those are some wicked ejection pin marks. -

Thanks Jim. Honestly this build as it sits was next on my dance card anyway. It just happens that it fits in this CBP as the flatbed in "Take it Easy" is open to interpretation. I suppose something from the 60's would fit the song better but this is what I had planned, and I'll roll with it. The girl (my Lord) in the flatbed Ford just happens to be a traditional hot rod girl. Who knew? -
If I build the engine with the Ardun heads from the Revell F-1, is it still a flathead? I tend to think not, but I'm just want more opinions. The reason for this silly question is that this coming years theme at the fall MAGS show in Tampa is 'flatheads and inlines".
-
I was hoping to see more activity here. This is my kinda CBP. C'mon guys we need some evil eye candy. Oh and by the way, concerning the title "Unleash Havoc", I think the phrase you were searching for was "Cry Havoc!". This is from a line of Shakespeares play Julius Caesar that goes "cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of war". Very fitting for a CBP like this one.

Wow. That looks ultra slick. Great work.

Okay some shots from me finally. This is an AMT 34 Ford p/u I recently got from Clay in a trade. This will be built as a stakeside flatbed shop truck for a fictional salvage company called L&R Original Parts Rescue. So far I have modified the kit suspension to get rid of the wishbones. I plan in totally scratching the flatbed (& stakesides)so I made a frame for it from 2x2mm stock. The rear step/ trailer hitch is to add the trailer I made a few months ago. The engine is the flattie from the Revell 50 F-1 and will feature Ardun Heads and triple carbies. This build will be mildly weathered and feature distressed suede paint. No salt or hairspray here just paint that has gotten thin in areas and a little primer showing through. I plan on taking 1/8 inch out of the top (bout 3 scale inches) no hood sides. Checkerboard firewall, lots of wood, mud flaps in the rear. I'm still kicking the interior around for this one. I may use the bench seat and make another mexican blanket. Lots to do still. -
Look sat it this way. Because of people in the past not taking constructive critisism very well, folks here don't do it very often. They prefer the "if you can't say anything nice" rule of thumb. Having said that........perhaps the lack of replies and ata-boys...........is a comment in itself? It means that you still have lots to learn, you need to slow down and take your time. It means if parts don't fit right, then you need to keep at it until they do fit. This isn't a popularity contest. When someone gets a lot of replies it means that their work is of superior quality and workmanship and the subject is exciting and unique.
