  2. Purple stuff won't touch lacquers. So if you used Testors one coat or tamiya or auto paints, you'll need some 91% rubbing alcohol.
  3. Real hard to take pics with their table layout isn't it? They are real pressed for space at those car shows, and they do the best they can. Looks like it was a good show.
  4. Since we're talking about a basement in WV, that floor is going to get real cold a good part of the year. I recommend carpet tiles. The 3' square carpet pieces that are used in commercial buildings. They are very short pile and have a thick rubber back, very good insulation. Easy to lay down, no glue, no stretching, no padding needed AND can often be gotten cheaply. Companies will often have extras from commercial contracts and will get rid of them VERY cheaply. I have this on my hobby room floor and I love it.

  7. Okay. The kit I have was painted in testors lacquer by its previous owner. A $2.99 bottle of 91% alcohol later and that paint is toast. The build begins this weekend. This is going to be a stake-side flatbed dually shop truck. The engine will be the Ardun flattie from the 50 Ford F-1. Paint will be a mildly distressed suede blue. I'm kicking around the idea of chopping the top a bit. I'm not a big fan of chop tops, but we'll see.

  9. I've got a line on a 76 CFM shaded pole blower (squirrel cage) for a pretty decent price. If I build a 2' x 2' booth is 76 CFM enough?
  10. My painting made a trmendous leap when I discovered Duplicolor lacquers in the touch up rattle cans. Fantastic stuff, great nozzles.

  16. Dan, I do have the stock front valence panel and the associated chrome. I'm going to use the stock light buckets but the custom ones are available. I used the stock rear bumpers/tail lights and the custom piece I have messed with and then discarded the idea so it's trash. Shoot me a PM on the bits you need and I'll see what I can do to fill in the holes although it might just be easier to buy a donor kit.

  20. Thanks guys. I'll admit I was leery of cutting into the hood as I don't have a replacement but no guts, no glory. These are my color choices. Almond beige pearl for the body and alpine green pearl for the top. The old Studes had some great two tones and I wanted to do one of my own. It'll get some classic door numbers and some racing script decals for the Carrera Panamericana that came with a diecast 50's Vette. Primer soon.
  21. This is an AMT 53 Stude that I am building for my Cannonball Run CBP and will eventually wear livery for the Carrera Panamericana. I have replaced the Stude running gear with the suspension/engine/cowl hood/radiator etc from a Revell 68 Vette. Lots of fabrication so far. Exhaust/roll cage/chassis. The hood needs a little more work and then should be ready for primer. I may look into having the hood resin cast as the Baldwin Motion scoop looks all sorts of perfect there. The engine and chassis have been mildly weathered to replicate a veteran racer that's seen some miles. I got her on all four wheels tonight and am satisfied with the stance. This is not supposed to look like a modern pro-tourer but rather something from the 70's and 80's.

  23. Thanks. Hard to find one rated G, and still be cool & sexy. I built a couple back in the 90's for a couple guys in a local car club. The price was fair at the time and I enjoyed the builds, but HATED to give them up when I was done. Neither model lasted more than 90 days after delivery. The first, a 67 Chevelle was crushed and melted all over an engine. Yep, the owner (we'll call him Brainiac) set it on his air cleaner during the car show, then shut the hood and drove it home. The second,a 32 roadster, never even made it out of the shipping box. It ended up getting crushed in the guys garage somehow. Funny thing is, they both called me and asked for another build. I turned them both down flat. I can't tell you how mad I am even now, twenty years later. No one is going to take as good a care of your builds as you do. Perhaps some folks can divorce themselves from a build once it's out of their hands but I can't. I have to build one for a family member soon. I'm not looking forward to it.
  24. We've got a few of those slot car types here too. Many of them do some fantastic paint work. Glad to have them.
