  1. I'm trying valiantly to do one for contest, and have found that if you're going to do one, make darn sure it is a REALLY good kit. Kit flaws that I would normaly just customize my way around, make you wanna pull your hair out.
  2. The worst kit I've ever opened was the AMT 66 Mustang Coupe. The whole darn thing was just awful. I had to replace everything aside from body/hood/interior bucket/bumpers/grill.
  3. Paul, I think next year, we'll get everyone who's going to meet up after awards. Do a meet and greet.
  4. Yep, it's official. I like it! Great job, and welcome to the forum.
  5. You got that right. NOT EASY. But I think you're in the zone. Looks great.
  6. Lets do this. Compile a list on this thread of interested members. Every person copy the list from the person who posted before and add yours to it. When we have everyone, we'll plot out our hometowns and see if we have a central location that is a reasonable distance. I'll start it off. <Jantrix> Rob Mattis, Tampa FL.
  7. Fantastic work. Just amazing.
  8. It's just the lighting I think. It was very realisticly done.
  9. Future floor polish might have fixed up the scratches in the glass. And don't worry about this model. There's someone here who has a great quote, "Every model I build is just practice for the next one." Very true. You're next one will be better.
  10. Disregard my previous statement, I didn't see the top color was silver. I thought.............nevermind. Shutting up now.
  11. Holy Smokes that's near 80 miles from me. Sorry guys, you'll have to count me out.
  12. Had we come up with a place to meet? My ability to participate will rely heavily on distance.
  13. Most likely this was done my some overzealous kid who was just posting up something he really admired.
  14. This won the award at the Tampa MAGs contest for best dio and was my pic for best in show. I loved it. I didn't catch the builders name but I sure wish I had. Great stuff and very imaginative. I wish I'd gotten some better shots of the cement truck, it was very well done, and it felt really authentic. Hope you like.
  15. Agree 100%. It is the social aspect of this hobby thanks to forums like this, that helps keep my interest and imagination flowing.
  16. Thanks very much Jairus. I figure that's good advice for any contest and I'll spend some time kicking this around as I plan for next years contests.
  17. I was there, and did well. As for pics, it was very hard to photograph there. Do to space constraints, all the models are laid out in parking lot fashion, and visitors only had access to one side of the table. I took some shots, but unable to use my mini-tripod the shots I did take are not very good. All in all it was a good show. The top awards went to some outstanding builders. I'm not sure I'll be doing it again next year though. Unlike your average model contest, where people with children are more careful (mostly), this was just Mr. & Mrs Joe Average at a car show with their 2.5 kids that the MAGS club did a great job keeping safely away from our builds, but I was still very nervous about leaving my models there for two days. Too many grabby little hands from too many children, ill-supervised.
  18. That's an unusual way to do a two tone. We'll see how she turns out.
  19. Here's some shots I took this weekend at Florida State Fairgrounds. Enjoy. http://s53.photobucket.com/albums/g73/Jantrix/SESRN%2010/
  20. Umm. No. Rather the project was at first to be a canoe, and then inspiration struck. Next think you know there is a chassis being built and then the body being built around it. The gas tank was wood (I'm sure there was a metal tank inside it) the grill, seats, floor, dash, etc ad nausium. He had wood examples out and spent a great deal of time explaining how he'd done certain things, the curve of the hood for instance. A very skillful fellow.
  21. Spotted some cool stuff today at the Southeast Streetrod Nats This roadster is made entirely of wood. Mohagany to be exact. According to the builder/owner it started as a canoe and grew from there.

Fantastic work! Where did the air cleaner come from?
  23. I like where this is going.
  24. Love it!
  25. Overall a good built. It looks "right". Know what I mean? The battery should have gone on the floorboards or something. A 12V shock while driving would be bad. And the tail light in the middle of a graphic decal?
