Look What's Coming In 2008 From Revell Germany!
robertw replied to larrygre's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
We hear almost nothing but doom and gloom from the North American model manufacturers yet Revell AG is prepared to burn plastic on something this size and limited interest. It appears that Revell AG have made conclusions about the future of the hobby that many in N. America haven't. I congratulate them on taking the risk of producing a model like this. It will look awfully impressive though, sitting on a shelf. I might even be tempted myself despite the price tag. robw -
Opinions Wanted....
robertw replied to Len Geisler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I did a little playing around a couple of years back with the Revell chassis under the AMT body and as I recall it was not a drop in fit but could be made to work. What you do depends on what you are hoping to achieve. If your aim is to create the most accurate '63 that you can, then of course use what ever you can to achieve that aim. If the aim is merely to do a restoration on an old first generation C2 kit then do and replace only what you have too, but maintain the bones of the old model. Were you also going to use interior elements from the Revell snap '63 kit to replace the inner door flat AMT door panels? robw -
Crazy Ed. If you're looking for one of these check out www.modelexpress.net Dennis had them on sale for practically next to nothing last month. robw

I'm currently working on the Italeri version of the 32/33 Chrysler and although I've never built anything like this before I must admit it's been a fun build. I just wish Italeri had done their tires/whitewalls like Monogram, they would have been a lot less work. Have a friend doing this kit so I'm looking forward to having them sit side by side on a club display table in the future. It is hard to imagine Detroit painting cars in these vibrant colors back then but yours certainly looks sharp in yellow & red. robw

Nice dedication to Peter Boyle. While he will probably best be remembered for his last TV series his performance in the Mel Brooks film will be my best memory of him. Hey, and the model build ain't bad either. robw

Sharp. I picked up this kit on my last online model order. Seeing yours makes me want to put other projects aside and pull it out of the closet. robw

That is a beautiful build in its own right and it's Corvette heritage just adds icing on the cake. robw -
You must have been extra good this year to receive these kinds of Christmas goodies. robw

I hate to admit it but that looks like a Saskatchewan licence plate, my home province. If so I want to go on record as stating that we're not all hayseeds and dopes. Heck I even took off my 2x6 bumpers years ago. robw

Is this mold the same one that was used to produced the Magnum PI model a few years ago. I remember that kit as being a real pain to build. robw

Looks good. I like the engine detailing. I built this one when it first came out and I remember it being a tricky kit to build if you want to totally eliminate both front and rear belt line seams. RobW

My eyes can't focus that close to do this in 1/25 let alone 1/43. Excellent job Simon. rob w

Looks nice John. I've followed Jack's build of this car but I must admit he always just seemed to be standing around doing nothing. Are you sure you didn't have a crew sneaking in at night to do all the work. LOL robw

Jim, Others have used all the great adjectives to describe this build, all I can say is that you've created a work of art. This is a model that you'd never get tired at looking at. Well done! Rob W

Mere words can't do this build justice. I bow before a master artist. In plastic he has clearly proven why the Daytona is considered one of the most beautiful Ferraris. robw

That looks like a very complex sheet to create but if you were willing to produce some sheets for sale I think you could name your own price. I'd even be willing to pay in my currently inflated Canadian dollars. I look forward to seeing the finished model it's going to be a winner. robw

Colour Recommendation Required
robertw replied to Mr. Can Am Garage's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I painted this model for a friend a few years ago. I ended up using Tamiya Camel Yellow over Grey primer as I recall. It wasn't a perfect match but considering that you're basing your match on photos on the web it was close enough. Your biggest problem will be all that chrome. My original intention was Alclad but after painting and stripping three times and still not being satisfied I finally did it in Tamiya Gloss Aluminum. I'd recommend sending those parts out to be professionally chromed. robw -
Didn't buy anything but for anyone on the board who is from western Canada who may have a farm-hardware supply store called Peavey Mart near them they now have their annual Christmas supply of kits. Good selection of AMT & Revell, they even had the Testor's Charger...but no '49 Merc Two days after Xmas they always put all kits that are left on for 50% off. I rarely resist that opportunity to add to the stash. robw

I keep seeing this car build and keep saying to my self, I want to dig mine out and start building it. That metallic orange seems to look good on so many cars and this one is no exception. Well done. robw

Solvaset can also over react with some decals and destroy them so test before using it. I usually reserve Solvaset for my toughest jobs. Because of Solvasets ability to really snug decals down make sure the decal is directly above the raised area before applying. Usually I like to sand off raised detail before applying a similar decal over it. robw

Thanks for the report Gerry. Next year looks better then anyone could have expected. It is very nice to see Lindberg's serious return and I hope they sell enough to realize that this is a hobby with a future. I've already noticed that my LHS has more Lindberg kits on the shelves then I've seen there for many years. robw

Got my standing order for all the 2007 Corvette promos including the Indy Pace Car and the Daytona Pace Car. In particular the Pace Cars were beautifully done this year. (my dealer always waits till all promos are available before he ships to me) Last week my hobby delivery was my first order from Strada. Every thing in stock and quick shipping. I'll be ordering from them again. BTW, the order was PE & decals for various Ferrari projects. robw

While I'd never build a Corvette this radical I can certainly appreciate the amount of work that went into these models. robw

For a two week build this came out looking great !! robw

While I'll never have an Italian Stallion in my driveway I've certainly enjoyed everyones postings of their favorite Ferrari models. Thanks from a closet Ferrari fan. robw
