My son left this afternoon to go back to school, so I had a bit of time to pie-cut and shape the hood before I had to call it a day. Here's how the hood looked after the pie cuts and prep of the opening with 180 grit sandpaper. As I mentioned, I used 180 grit sandpaper to finish off the pie-cut before I glued it back together. By squeezing the hood together and dragging the sandpaper through several times, you virtually create a perfect fit between the top and bottom of the cuts. Here's what the hood looked like after being glued back together and shaped a bit. If you look closely at the rear of the cut you'll see the small relief hole that I drilled in the hood to help relieve any tension in the plastic when I glued the pie-cut shut. By cutting the hood the way I did and using the 180 grit sandpaper to finalize the fit, I was also able to save the original body line and the molding on the hood. This was important to me for this build because I want to use the original molding as the separation point for the two-tone paint job that this one will get in a few weeks. Here's how the hood looked on the model before the pie-cut and reshaping. Here it is after the pie-cut and a slight slanting back/rounding off of the top of the nose of the hood. Well, that's all for me for today... Later,

Yeah...the BMF will really look good against the light colors!! What do the Pegasus 1109's look like? Later,

Yeah, I like the look of the pie-cut hood, too. It follows the profile of the chopped/slanted roof really well. Thanks, Marcos!! I just hope that the carpal tunnel in my wrists stays away long enough for me to get this one finished soon... Later,

Yeah...but I went with a 3" slanted chop!! Yeah, Kevin, normally I'd agree with you and go with a BB Ford engine. I'm using the old HEMI in this one because it's a cool engine and it's what came in the '41 Willys kit that I'm using for the chassis, tires, wheels... Later,

Thanks, Mike!! Yes, the dual quads should fit with no problem. Below are a couple of computer generated looks at what I might do. The first one is a simple pie cut. The only downfall with pie cutting the hood is that I'll loose the stock molding that I was planning on keeping for the color separation. Here's the stock hood with the chopped top. Here's a look at the pie-cut hood (with a little help from the computer); I like the way the slant follows the roof line and tails off like the trunk. Lastly, after the pie-cut is done, I may slant the top of the nose of the hood back just a bit. I can't slant it back too much or the profile of the hood will look odd with the grille in place. Very nice, Randy!! The stance looks right on and the color combination is GREAT!! Later,

Looking good, Dave!! I'm glad to see that you're back to building models, again... Regards,

You are a funny guy!!

Thanks!! No, the front will be lower than the rear when it's done. The suspension hasn't been glued in place yet. Thanks, Tito!!

Thanks, guys!! Well, my hands are feeling much better after several days of rest, so I took some time this afternoon to chop the top. I took about 3 scale inches out of it, but I did this one a bit different than usual. For this one, I didn't want to widen or lengthen the roof section, instead I wanted the back window to lay down at a steeper than stock angle, giving it a slightly sleeker look that would align with the slanted "B" pillars. Here's how it looked after the "A" and "C" pillars cut down, the "B" pillar temporarily removed and the "C" pillars slit. To achieve the look I wanted, I had to slit the roof between the "C" pillars and the rear window to allow the rear window to lay down without too much tension on the plastic. This photo shows how the roof panels were slit to allow the rear window section to lay down and reconnect with the panel between the trunk and the roof. You can also see one of the small relief holes that were drilled near the top of the roof to ensure that the window layed down even on both sides once it was reconnected and glued in place. And here's a couple of pics of how it looks after the "B" pillars were reversed, slanted and put back in place. Well, that's all for today. If all goes well, I'll have time tomorrow to round out the corners of the windows and maybe get a bit of primer on it. Then it looks like the hood may need a slight pie cut to get the nose down just a bit. Later,

Today ended on a good note

Congratulations, Kevin!! Yeah...stick with Ford and you can fix my 08 Taurus Limited in 5 years when the warranty runs out!! Later, -
I really like the conversion to 3window and the chop!! The '34 Ford 3w coupe is one of my alltime favorite hotrods!! Thanks for sharing,

Dave, It looks like you're off to another GREAT start!! I really like the waterfall that divides the rear seats. That's a great, memorable touch from the early Vettes that carries over well into your design. Keep up the GREAT work and thanks for sharing,

How about a few more pics!! I really like the weathering!! Nice job!! Thanks for sharing,

Jeff, Thanks for the detail shots of the subassemblies before they went in the model. I'd never seen them before. It still looks GREAT!! Later,

I like the way you reshaped the back edge of the hood. Are you planning on doing the same to the bottom edges of the doors? Later,
-
Virgil, That's really coming along nicely!! It reminds me of when I built the futuristic rat rod; I had so much fun crafting up that engine with all the bits and pieces from different stuff... Later,

Very nice work, Scott!! All of the individual assemblies are so well detailed!! I can hardly wait to see the whole thing come together!! Later,

Go ahead and use it. I'll send you another one. I have a box of four more... I'll drop it in the mail this weekend. Later,

It'll probably be a week or so before I have anything to update on this one. A touch of Carpal Tunnel in the right hand has slowed me down a bit... Later,

Jürgen, That's a very nice, clean build!! The colors are period perfect!! I like the lowered stance and the chrome wheels!! Thanks for sharing,

FOR THOSE THAT ARE INTERESTED IT'S FINISHED

Very clean build!! Nice engine detail!! -
Bernard's, of course!! I'm getting bored with mine...time for a change...

Thanks, Tito!! I'm glad to see that you're back on the forum!! Yeah, this one is about 99.9% finished. I got some pics under the hood of a 1:1 Ford Lightning pickup last weekend at the Pleasanton GoodGuys show, so now I know how and where to route the water lines for the heater core. They clearly do not connect to the engine anywhere near where you would expect them to on most any other engine. Beyond that, I still need to add the lower radiator hose and some safety chains to the trailer. Other than that, this one is DONE!! My next build is pretty simple. I'm dropping a slightly modified Revell '40 Ford coupe body onto a Revell '41 Willys Street Rod chassis. Here's the link to the build. Later,

By the way, I really like the new avatar with the trio of your recent builds!!
