  1. Oh yeah, Dave...that one is headed for the finish line!! I'll send you an email with my mailing address. I'm making room with my other Vettes for this one!! Later,
  2. Dennis, That is just too cool to even still have one of your father's models, let alone being able to make your interpretation of it now!! Since my boys really aren't into model building, at least not yet, (and they're in their early 20s), I occasionally wonder what will happen to my collection when I'm gone. I suspect that it'll get put up on eBay... Thanks for sharing,
  3. Hey Bill, send me an email with your new mailing address and I'll drop some of the black satin that I use for the chutes in the mail to you, otherwise I'll try to remember to bring some next weekend to the NNL. Later,
  4. Yeah, the back is a bit too high...and...the radiused wheel openings like it shows in the picture only exaggerates to look of it being too high in the back. As for the tires, back in those days kits seemed to typically come with almost whatever tire they had recently mass produced more than something specific to the model. There were a few exceptions, like slicks for some of the dragsters, but even those seemed to be the same from kit-to-kit. From what I found, the Salt Shaker was issued only in ~1977/78. The '37 Chevy with the blanked-out grille dates back to the late 60's. AMT Kits After the Trophy Series I wonder if this is why we've never seen the Salt Shaker reissued: Oh well...Maybe someday I'll build my '37 Chevy coupe into a salt flat car...or maybe a gasser, or maybe a custom, or... Later,
  5. Yep, I'll second all of that!! Thanks for sharing,
  6. Very clean build!! Nice color choices and attention to detail!! Thanks for sharing,
  7. We've all been there...I've got as many models that are 3/4 done as I have finished builds. Set it aside until you're in the mood, otherwise you'll probably make a mistake and be completely unhappy with the whole thing. Later,
  8. Great color choice on the Z, Gray!! I've got to get back to building some of the newer sports cars again. I've been building custom hotrods a long time now... Thanks for sharing,
  9. Very nice work, Erik!! The entire build looks GREAT, including all of the extra details that you've added. Thanks for sharing,
  10. Dale, I got a bill from the DMV for next year's registration on the truck in the mail today...and yes, I have to get a smog certificate before they'll issue me new tags. I better hurry up and build a scale smog test fixture before the registration expires! Thanks for the chuckle!!
  11. Very nice build!! Thanks for sharing,
  12. Andy, The engine detail looks GREAT!! I have extra bumpers for the Revell '49 Merc. Send me a PM with your mailing address if you're interested and I'll drop them in the mail for you. Later,
  13. I put mine in my large glass display case, along with about 30 other models...
  14. Oops!! If you use a little IPA (Rubbing Alcohol) you can wash the paint off of are where the dirt is.
  15. I remember the Merc!! The engine detail is awesome!! It'll be a shame to hide all of that in the engine bay!! Thanks for sharing,
  16. What happened to the top piece?
  17. The engine is coming along nicely!! With the intake setup you have being such an outstanding feature, you've got to do the PE carbs on this one!! Thanks for sharing,
  18. Looking good, Clay!! I can't wait to see the set finished!! Later,
  19. Looking good, Clay!! Is that Testor's fabric tan I see?? Later,
  20. That's too funny!! I know several people that were also not too happy when Revell introduced their new Merc, but I think overall (based on the shear number of these things I've seen built), that Revell won that battle. Later,
  21. Mike, I made my rig from the Model King reissue of the '53 Ford hauler and truck. I use a bit of sheet styrene and some triangluar stock to make the new enclosure on the trailer. The first thing I did was to take a picture of the trailer, bring it into PowerPoint to get a rough idea of what I wanted it to look like. Using the picture as a template, I cut the sides, added 1/4" triangular stock to the inside edges to support the top piece, then rounded over the edges. This picture shows the triangular stock inside the hood of the trailer that joins the sides to the top and held everything together when I rounded the edges. This shot shows how the edges were rounded over. I think that your '34 pickup is a prime candidate for this kind of rig!! Send me an email if you need more info. Later,
  22. Jeff, It's GREAT to see you building again!! The engine detail is amazing, as usual!! Take care,
  23. Here are a few pics of a stock '32 that I found on eBay. I hope they help.
  24. Very nice work!! Crisp and clean!! Thanks for sharing!! Later,
  25. Yes, I know who Jerry Amaral is. He also builds some really nice models. I won't be going to Salt Lake, but my friend Jerry Cardinal will be ther with his newly finished El Matador. My other friends; Rex Bardon, Stan Pinnick and a few others from the NNL West crowd will also be there. Yeah, you can't miss a 50th anniversary...not even for a really big model show. Catch you later,
