Do you keep the box?
tabsscale1 replied to Hattley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Well since I have over 2000 unbuilt models I still have the boxes with the kits inside. Only ones I do keep are tyhe vintage ones i hae bought. Then the whole box is folded up and put in a tub. The newr ones getthrown away if i have more than one of them will save the box from the last one i build of the kit. -

Budget spray gun kit???
tabsscale1 replied to cazxr2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have 5 v and vl Paasche , Badger 200, Iawata eclipse and one of those cheap Harbor freight airbushes. I Love them all I have more but don't use the others. The cheap Harbor freight one would be a good starter one. Since you are in the UK you may be able to order Paasche from Dixe art I have found that they are the cheapest on the net. They also carry replacement parts for all their airbrushes. I run mine on a 2 gallon campbell Hausfeld compressor that I bought at Walmart for $70. It has a built in regulator and water trap. The Iawata and the paasche airbrushes are all double action and the badger is a single action. The one i bought from Harbor freight worked real good but the parts may be hard to come by. I did use cans for a couple years but that got expensive . You can also go with CO2 bottles. you have to buy the bottle and a regulator and find someone that can refill them. Tires are from Modelhaus and the wheels are just torque thusts out of the 62 impala from AMT I think. I got the last step started ned to do the trunk and clear coat it. Then I will try and finish the Tuck and roll in the interior.

Okay now I have gotten the first three satges of paint done have a couple more to go. Started with some HOK Snow white pearl with some white added painted the whole body and hood and trunk with that. Next I painted HOK candy root beer along the bottom in a fade. I then used HOK Candy Tangerine over the rootbeer and used the fade. Next will be a Candy gold i think will test it to see if it is the color I want.

First time airbrushing touch ups

That paint is pretty thick in those bottles. I would probaly use Lacquer thinner to thin it down. I would thin it to about the consistency as milk. -
I a;ways shoot the Alcad over Testors Black enamel . I thin the black with lacuer thinner. Once i get a nice finish I then shoot testors clear enamel over the black . This gives it a real good shine. I also use the lacquer thinner to thin the clear. Once that is set up I then shoot the Alcad this way has yeilded me some great results. Juts don't have any pictures to show as I don't have the cars anymore. and the pictures I did have i lost when my hard drive died about 6 months ago.

What kind of Camers do you have? Does it have a Macro setting? That is a Tulip on the adjusting functions on most cameras. I have a Canon point and shoot Powershot A590IS and a Canon Powershot A540 the 590 is last years model. and was going for around $149 last time I was at Wally world. I have found out by checking the cameras out on the internet that 4 Brands stand out. They are Olympus. Sony , Nikon and Canon. I picked my Canons as they accept different lenses on the out side to do different things and the lense will automaticly focus as close as a 1/4 of an inch. The 4 mentioned brands have the better lenses on them. For taking pictures of models the megapixels really don't matter as you really don't need all the meegapixels unless you are going to print picture. Then those help in the better quality prints. I have always felt that you need to spend a little more to get a good quality camera and you would be better satified withit.

what type of airbrush do you use?

I have pasche VL and a Iawata dual action. Also have a Badger 200 Single action. I like the dual action as you can control thr flow of the paint. -
According to what i have read it is just a one race deal and Jr said it would probably never happen again.

Been working on this off and on. Used the black primer to show imperfections in the body work. also I have found out that black primer makes white really pop. The base coat is going to be a pearl white.I have started doing some tuck and roll on the interior will get some shots of that wheni get some time.

Went into Hobby Lobby To Get one of the White Freightliner kit That was just recently reissued. An low and behold they had the Italeri recovery truck on clearance for $27 so i bought both. Can the truck br built as just a wrecker or is it just a fire Department truck? Haven't opened it yet so it may be sold at a later date if i decide not to build it.

I have an old computer also but never have any problems with this site. I think the pictures are reduced any way by the program for this forum. I had a old 400 mhz computer and never had any problems with it either

What I have done is take the original hood and measured it. Then figured out how wide I want the cowl. then once i figured the center of the hood I measured half the distance of the cowl on both sides ofthe center. Once that is measured i draw lines on the hood and cut along the lines on both sides. then heat up,the front and bend it up to the heighth i want. Then I glue styrene to the sides but make it long towards the the back of the hood. then i use styene to finish the top off to the length of the sides. this way you use less plastic ancan stilll use the original hoods center peak on the cowl. i wish I had the picture of the one i did but can't find it right now.

Yes I noticed some of the kits i bought last month at Hobby Lobby were cheaper the other day when i was in there. Almost looked like they dropped them all about $2.
