Thanks for all the good wishes for my up coming hospital trip, the last time I was actually admitted into hospital I was taken ill in the U.S .... Anyway, I've got the floor, running boards and all the BMF finished, so I can crack on now and get the rest of the build finished .... After airbrushing the floor panel satin black, to me it looked a little too smooth, as it is supposed to replicate rubber, so I brushed on some of the Revell enamel thinned with lacquer thinners and tried to stipple it a little with the brush giving it a little more texture.

Thankfully the American F1 was on late over here, which took people away from eBay, and having the eBay app' on my Andriod, I popped in a last minute cheeky bid on this and got it for £8.50 !!!! (Around $13.00)

It's all done with BMF Harry ....

Superb build, very realistic colours, I might have to look for one of these, it would go well with my '32 Chrysler

I don't think it would have been any easier, as the fenders are again parts of the body, either way, something would have had to be masked off .... Did a little more work on it today, finished off one of the running boards, just a little BMF to do around to rubber floor and the other running board, I'll reckon I'll get this finished in the next couple of weeks, just in time for my stay in hospital .....

Well you can turn a sow's ear into a silk purse ......beautiful build !

Because they are actually molded as part as the body, they are not seperate parts .... it would have been a lot easier if they were !

Finally got the body all masked up and the running boards and floor paint, in real life they would be black rubber, so I chose a satin black from Revell thinned out with lacquer thinners, took all the masking off this morning, and I'm pretty happy with the results, now I have the BMF to do .....

Got the coachline redone today, not worried about the overspray at the bottom as it will be covered in BMF after the running boards have been done ... Also tried out the Alclad clear I picked up the weekend on the brass parts,

Nice build, and not one of Tamiya's easiest kits to build ...

I haven't been to this show since around 1997/8 and was great to get there today and meet up with some friends, old and new, Here's a few photo's from the show .... http://s21.photobucket.com/albums/b290/GeeBee42/SMW%20Telford/?albumview=slideshow

I'm just pleased it wasn't on one of the front wings, as those coachlines were a right PITA to get right, I should have the rear wheel arch back to normal in the next couple of days, got the IPMS Scale Model World show tomorrow and the hospital on Monday, but i'll fit it in somewhere along the line, there really isn't that much now to get it finished ....

Some of My Truck Stuff

Here you go :- -
Just when thing were going well, this morning I fixed on the other side wheels and then thought I would get the running boards painted, as the body was done in lacquer, I could do the running boards in satin black lacquer, just before things had been masked off, i got out the lacquer thinners to thin out the black a little and a few drops of thinners got onto the rear wing, and took the paint off right down to the plastic ..... at this stage I could have stamped on it !!! But I thought I had gone too far to throw in the towel now, so the area was flatted down, masked up and airbrushed using my small Paasche f1, it really is a great brush for doing smaller touch ups, now I will leave it to dry out for a few days before putting on the red coachlines, But on a brighter note, at least it is starting to look like a car now it has all it's wheels on ...

Now that's nice, love the colour and the BMF is spot on ...
-
I passed my driving test in one of those, same colour as well, Orange Red ....

I hope we get these this side of the pond, as I like to build models that are just a little bit different

Western Star Constellation Daycab
GeeBee replied to kilrathy10's topic in Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Very nice build, what did you use for the back wall of the cab ? or was it in the kit already ? -
There kits of the early German 1950's trucks (Krupp and the Bussing) are very good kits with brilliant parts fit, there later London Routemaster bus is a stunning kit, but there earlier American truck kits weren't very good, and wheels and tyres looked awful ....
-
Well it is certainly looking more like a car now .... had to drill out the rear axle to take the pins holding the wheels on, got the wheels fitted on one side, using some 3 hour slow setting epoxy so I could get things lines up correctly and held in place using a couple of metal set squares, one of my pet hates in modelling is wonky wheels ....

In a word NO, it has so many poor fit problems you'll be pulling your hair out !
