OVERCOMING THE TERRIBLE MPC 1967 GTO KIT!
NOBLNG replied to DREAMSCALE CONCEPTS's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Great start Charles! That engine is sure to smoke them tires!?? -
Thing is…I actually enjoy Mondays because I am retired.
-
Sixty seconds with a hair dryer on low will get the paint dry enough. It doesn’t need to be completely cured. Just the surface has to be dry enough to accept the next coat.
-
That looks great Len!? The trick with any water based paints I believe is multiple VERY light coats. My first and only attempt with Createx was a disaster, but I didn’t know what I was doing at the time. I have a few more bottles that I will try soon.
-
When I get around to doing the next one, I will scrape away more material from the cowl so that the new hood corner can remain a little thicker. ? I had to file this one fairly thin to get it to fit nicely.

You’re saying that Molotow can be handled without leaving marks on it if it is dry enough? What do you spray it over…primer…base coat?
-
The black looks great with the red and white interior!?
-
Nice start on it Jason. That engine is a BEAST!??
-
I stripped that ugly Korhn red off the dash the other day and repainted it with the pearl. This morning I did the foil. Lottsa skinny little strips!?
-
I have not had much luck with the markers. I bought a 30ml refill that I intended to spray through my airbrush, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. I think the trick is to get one heavy coat on that “flows out”…then don’t touch it. Some people like them but I’m not a big fan.

Nice work. Love that color too!??

Masking tape isn’t supposed to do that right?
NOBLNG replied to Milo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I can’t see the picture, but tape will stick to paint better than paint will stick to kit chrome. Either scuff the chrome with fine sanding pads or strip it entirely.?♂️ -
Parts are the carpet monsters favourite treat.

Shows nicely once it’s all polished up.

Engine is finished.? I wound up using some 0.5mm brass tubing for spark plugs. It is 0.3mm (0.012”) id. so the plug wires just fit.
-
Cinders, when cooled, get dumped out back on the ash pile.
-
Some pics with the first few coats of pearl red. I need to give a couple spots a light sanding then a final coat or two (I hope?).
-
Thanks Jim.? Thanks David.? Thanks for the offer Len. If I can’t scratch build something decent, I will either order some, since I would like to have some on hand…or just leave them off (fair weather only cruiser?). BTW, what brand do you have?
-
You’re doing a great job Nick! Nice fab work on that tilt front end!??

Markets are up and down like a lady of the nights’ pantyhose.

Well I have been fiddling with this one off and on. I think I’ve filled, filed, shaped and sanded it into an acceptable level of submission. I filled the existing cowl outline and made a new vent lid from .015” styrene. I glued it in place, then scribed around the edges with a needle, then sanded it almost flush to the cowl. The windshield molding is four separate pieces since I couldn’t even get two bends spaced exactly the correct distance apart.? I don’t know what I will do about wipers yet…probably scratch build a couple?? Now hopefully I can get a paint job on it without having to dunk it again ? Thanks for the support and encouragement everyone!?
