Does anyone make a resin air cleaner like this? I looked at all of my mid-60s Ford kits and came up empty.

AMT and MPC Please Put Out Significant Kits
gui_tarzan replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I absolutely agree with you. I guess I don't have the attention span required, that's all. There are some concepts certain people grasp and others don't, I suppose that's where I'm at with the software. -
AMT and MPC Please Put Out Significant Kits
gui_tarzan replied to regular guy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Last winter I purchased a 3D printer to try out. I figured I'm pretty good with most mechanical devices, this shouldn't be that difficult. Right? Well... the machine isn't the hard part, the software is. I tried several free programs and a few trial commercial programs with many more features and capabilities. I can draw by hand pretty well but trying to draw things with a mouse is far harder than I ever imagined. Trying to figure out the commercial CAD software is extremely frustrating to me, I can't figure out how to get the programs to do what I want and I don't have the hundreds of hours required to learn it. Whoever said this stuff is easy is either geared to use things like that or completely off-base and hasn't tried it. Guys like Joseph at Fireball who have the capability to use that software will do very well, guys like me who don't will just end up buying their parts. The DLP printers ARE far superior to the PLA/ABS/etc plastic printers due to the stepped application of the media and you will always have to do some sanding on the parts to get them right. Having said that, there are professional printers that do a really, really nice job but none of them can match DLP or injection molding. Also, with DLP printers you're dealing with some hazardous materials that aren't exactly cheap, but they do produce nice parts. Injection molding for the masses, in my opinion, will not happen because of the high pressures and temperatures of the machines. Yes it would be nice, but if it were that easy or that cheap everyone would be doing it. Maybe in another 10-15 years IF the market increases substantially. Another thought, thin resin bodies or body parts are not necessarily a good thing. Most of us have experienced warpage with them and there is a reason most cast bodies are thicker than their styrene counterparts. Of course there are many different types of resin, some of which would be stronger, it really takes a lot of trial and error to find a balance between sturdiness and workability versus how quickly they tear up silicone molds. I don't have a problem with the re-releases by the companies that are still around, they have to make money somehow in order to make new tools. And if they don't make new tools, at least we have the ability to mix and match, create our own, and so on to keep the hobby going. We really have had it pretty good for a long time, especially with Revell and Moebius releasing new tooling to keep us interested. It could be worse, all of the companies could be gone. There is that to think about. -
One of these days I'll get the paint details right.

Let's See Your Tow Trucks!

This is going to be a replica of one our family had when I was a teenager. We hauled a LOT of junk cars with it. -

Thanks. I thought about the molding but liked it better this way. It's just Testors flat light aircraft grey and flat white with clear over it. -

Thanks guys! -
Here's my version of the 4x4. I modified the step bumper, wound springs for the front axle and extended the rear brackets, used Scenes Unlimited tires and used blocks in the rear end which I should raise a little more but overall I'm happy with this build.

I'm kind of late to the game I think, but here's the almost-finished 4x4 with my own lift mods and aftermarket tires. I'm updating the ugly step bumper and I sure wish they would correct the fit of the top of the windshield. None of the kits I have fit right. The exhaust doesn't fit worth a darn either. The next one will have dual exhaust. It's not a good picture but you'll get the idea.

We bet Bob on a Friday night at the hotel we were staying at, he was coming in right behind us. He saw my kits on our luggage cart and asked about them. That started the conversation and we spent Friday night, most of Saturday and part of Sunday with him. Another story he told us about was the origin of the Thames Panel Truck. Very cool. I wish those guys could have written down stories to share with everyone before they passed, the ones I heard were some great stuff!

Ok, thanks. Hers had the auto trans and the info I've found says it's a TH-2100 (possibly TH250?) 3spd auto. The engine wasn't the Iron Duke, it was the aluminum 2300cc.

My wife used to have a '77 Chevy Monza so I got one of the Monza re-releases the other day. It doesn't have the 4 cyl engine, but the rest of the kit looks decent enough to build like hers was. Does anyone know where I can get one or does someone have good pictures of all four sides so I can? A lengthy google search was unsuccessful, I only found a good picture of the passenger side. If this is in the wrong forum, please move it mods.

Hey guys, Olson Brothers is at it again with a new, handmade soft-top for the Revell Bronco that will fit either the original version or the new Baja Bronco kit that's coming out. There are also new side rails and much more available on our "favorite" site.

Thanks for all the comments guys, I like 'em simple and clean. The wrecker is actually a resin cast (every part) that I did from one of the Moebius kits. My brother, Chris, did the cab and extended the frame, I made the tires and wheels in resin from a set I had from some other truck and I scratch built the entire bed and boom out of styrene. It's far from done but I needed a break from it.

Thanks! It's not a 4wd, I just modified the front a-arms and put taller springs in it from Menards' hardware department. This version was one GM sold for utilitarian applications.

Thanks guys. My '64 is actually a combination of two, a '64 2dr top half and a '65 4dr bottom half. Turns out the wheelbase, frame, floorpan and rockers are identical so I took the two best halves and made one.

I don't post much but I do enjoy looking at the great builds you guys come up with. I took a break from modeling for a while to work on guitar tube amplifiers and my 1:1 '64 Buick Skylark, but some serious health issues sidelined those hobbies. During my on and off recovery periods over the last couple of years I decided since I couldn't do any heavy work, I'd break out the models again. Here are a few that I've done within the last year. The Bronco is a bone-stock version. The Suburban is actually a 2wd version called the "hi-riser" that was used in commercial venues. The SuperBee is a tubbed, dual quad street car, the wrecker is a replica of one our family had when I was a teenager, The '53 Ford and the '48 Chevy are mild customs.

Fender skirts are available now for the Foose Cadillac! These are handmade and fit perfectly to the body, however the kit tires and wheels are too wide to use once these are installed. If you're using the normal tall & skinny whitewalls they will fit fine as shown here.
