  1. I hope you enjoyed your stay and got to watch a rocket launch... Hey that is an awesome build too. I look forward to watching your progress as mine is coming from Japan and will take 5 weeks to get here.
  2. Thank you... I don't know what I am doing yet I just read a lot here and other places and watch a lot of YouTube vids on it and try to copy what seems to work. I'll be glad when I know a little more and get settled on a good painting method. I don't think I am going to use anymore Craft Paints as they are too fragile and unpredictable. Looking forward to seeing yours.
  3. Very nice building and video quality. Being new to this I didn't realize I could brush on Tamiya glue on painted parts... is there a secret? I'd also like to know what paint you used on the engine as it was so smooth and perfect?
  4. Nice.. I'm surprised the Dremel isn't too fast for polishing but looks like you have the perfect touch.
  5. I like it.. where'd you find that kit?
  6. Speaking of which... I enjoyed the unboxing this morning and look forward to the build
  7. Great to see you posting here Samuel. I am new to this hobby and a recent subscriber to your YT channel. I really like your builds as they are my style and you even include the cool sportbikes!
  8. Hey thanks to you Lunajammer and everyone else who has commented. I did use BMF on the bottom of the windshield trim. But I was having trouble making it stick on the top because the trim edge was so much smaller than on the bottom so I used a Molotow chrome pen on the rest of the trim. You can see where they come together on the side pic right where the front door panel line comes up to the windshield. I just finished my second model. This was a snap-tite kit that I got cheap at Michaels with a coupon. It looked like a toy but Tom at the Scalemodeling Channel did this one and really made it look good. I had lots of masking to do here but Tamiya's tape makes it very easy. I'm still not perfect but look forward to the experience of getting better. I discovered that I am not going to use Craft Acrylics on the body any more as I just cannot get a good, smooth, glossy finish. Honestly on this one I didn't want to much gloss because of the flat black trim but the surface is too rough and can't be polished with the varnish I use to protect the fragile craft acrylics. If I could find a clear coat that would go over it without damaging it that would be great too I suppose because I love the easy cleanup and no stink of acrylics. I couldn't get the light just right so the color is actually darker and nicer than it appears here. I was really happy with the diamond cut of the wheels that I learned from Tom when he did his. This truck had stickers which didn't look as good as decals but I added a few anyway:
  9. Looks great.. I just ordered this one.. is this the one you are getting ready to start?
  10. Wow.. I am going to have to get me some of that paint. Looks like it was sprayed on.
  11. Very nice.. I love the race car builds.
  12. I'm 48 and I just got into this hobby within the past month. I used to race cars and motorcycles, jump out of planes, scuba dive with sharks, etc (I still mountain bike, though the metal plate covering my entire collar bone with 8 screws from a crash six months ago makes me feel my age) but I am just as content to sit here in my office and make beautiful cars. Sign of my age I guess.. I don't have the desire to do any of that stuff any more. I owned a nice Corvette for 10 years and recently sold it. Don't care to get another sports car and am content driving my 4 cylinder Subaru. I'd rather save my money, retire early and enjoy this hobby along with a couple other hobbies that I enjoy. I sure hope this hobby sticks around for a while as I don't have many kits or supplies even though I've already spent at least $700 on this just to get started. Shouldn't cost too much from here though. Maybe this is a hobby for guys like me who like cars but have been there and done that and just want to enjoy them in miniature, less expensive and maintenance free form.
  13. Great job!
  14. I just bought a couple of Funny Cars and a Top Fuel car this week and was disappointed that they were 1/25 and not 1/24. They look tiny. I do have my eye on the 1/16 Hawaiian car when I get more experience or I see it for a great price.
  15. This is how I am going to do it now... ...my question to the experts is, in this day and age when space rockets can land themselves on floating platforms why can't these kits come perfect?
  16. Looks really good... what did you use to paint the suspension, engine and exhaust?
  17. That's my style right there. I love all road racing cars.
  18. I've bought more Tamiya kits than anything. I have found them for around the same price as the Revell kits they just take a long time to get here. I did go to Hobby Lobby a few times to pick up the kits I wanted when I heard about the bankruptcy but I soon realized all the kits they had that I wanted were MPC and AMT (Round 2). All my Revell kits have come from Amazon because they have the best price even with the 40% coupon. I did get two kits from Michael's with 60% off... now that was a good deal... but they don't have much to chose from. Mostly, I like race cars, especially F1 and GT/Prototype cars... but basically anything with a lot of decals.
  19. Thanks everyone.. that means a lot coming from you all because I am always impressed with the builds I see here. Just started painting my second model body and discovered that my airbrush (Neo for Iwata CN .35 needle) will not spray craft metallics. Now I have to clean that body and start over.. very frustrating. I'll have to stick with regular colors for now and maybe soon try to decant some Dupont auto colors or get some enamel reducer and try some Model Masters. It's all a learning game
  20. Those look great.. what did you paint the bodies with? They have perfect, mirror finishes.
  21. Wow.. that looks great! I'm always impressed with the builds here.
  22. Dan you can't be too old if you are playing 8 string Carvins That's for the younger, hardcore guys.
  23. I'm getting ready to leave for HL with my 40% coupon to pick one of these up today. I may go again tomorrow and get the other one just to build along with the pros here as they are only $19 after tax with that coupon). I was checking them out yesterday when I picked up the Soapy Sales Funny Car and they are identical kits it looks like... just with different decals (The Snake and The Mongoose that is). Think I will get The Mongoose today.
  24. Thanks everyone! 1972coronet... I thought so too and took a gamble. That is flat Folkart Bright Red and Craftsmart flat white with, first, a few coats of DecoArt Americana Gloss varnish for the decals... then DecoArt Americana Semi-Gloss after the decals were applied. I'm going to make my next one shiny (I hope) so I am not sure how well the craft paints will do. I am hoping to make it shiny without the stink of Enamels or Lacquers but we will see. I am honestly not sure what to do as I have no experience but I do know I am using my new airbrush. I love that thing. I will be painting everything possible with it next time and try to plan out better and pre-fit things.
  25. Thanks again all.. I appreciate it and had a lot of fun. BigTallDad, my next two models are both what I believe to be called curbside models so no engines but I will try to get some interior shots. Actually, I just forgot to take them so here is a couple. I had the engine looking OK but used too much superglue on the painted parts and messed them up a bit (you can see that it looks crystallized on those parts) and also had trouble closing the hood with the hose from the supercharger to the carb so I pulled it off the supercharger. The interior looked great until I took the tape off before the paint had dried completely (lesson learned) and I peeled it off in a gooey mess. I had airbrushed the dash and then taped it off to do some detail with the paint brush and painted it on too thick. Hopefully I hid that in the picture.
