Funny thing Chris but I was under the impression that an airbrush like you use is a beginner's airbrush and tried to go one step above and I should've started and stayed there LOL. From that article that interviewed Clay he uses two 350s and a 150 for detail. I should have researched more as a lot of the greats are using these "beginner" airbrushes. The Neo Iwata I have will do great for detail work but I need to figure out what to get for single action and a bigger tip. I won't hijack this thread anymore about this but I am looking forward to hearing if Clay is still using the two 350s and the 150 and what John is using. Thanks again Chris! -

Thanks for that information Chris. After researching a lot about airbrushes I got the Neo for Iwata CN which is the one I believe you got at HL. It is a good one but I think I have figured out that I need a bigger needle for most things model car related... and probably single action too for painting bodies just to get constancy. -

That paint job looks great Chris. Now I am starting to see where all the quality and detail from you expert's builds come from... that was a lot of work for three small parts. If I may ask a newb question, what airbrushes do you three use? I read an article in a magazine where Clay mentioned what he was using recently and I was surprised by his answer. -
Will Hobby Lobby be stocking the Dyno Don Cougar funny car?
jchrisf replied to GMP440's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
As far as plastic model cars go I think the Funny Car might be the genre that I love the most... looking forward to finding this new on on the shelves. I've already got the only two that I have found at HL (Soapy Sales and The Trojan Horse, I am working on Soapy Sales now). I haven't seen any new, in production funny cars anywhere else including online except for the 1/16 Hawaiin car which I have on order from an online provider that I found at a good price. What are some other funny cars available now? -
Great job Ian! I love it. Glad to hear it is a kit that fits together nicely since I am new to the hobby and have this kit... I might have to make it my next one I need to start knocking them out as quickly as you just to get a lot more experience under my belt (as we say here in the states). I think I have discovered the key is spray lacquer paints because painting has been my biggest hurdle.

Got another one from Tamiya. I am very impressed with their kits even though I haven't started one yet. The box is sturdy and nice and holds/displays the sprues well. The plastic is perfect. The wheels and tires are perfect like aftermarket pieces.

I'm curious Samuel.. I've ordered several kits lately that have not arrived and they are mostly Tamiya with one being the Ducati Desmosedici. Do you find these Motorcycle kits harder or easier than the car kits? Just trying to plan my next build as I am finishing up my third model car. I'll save the Desmosedici for later if these are harder until I get some more experience.

That looks so good Ian... I've discovered that decaling is my favorite thing to do when I build models (at least for the three I have done). It is amazing how much it transforms the car. I just love the look of race cars with lots of cool graphics and colors. And you set the stage perfectly with your painting and masking prior to decals.

Anyone buying Revell kits just in case?
jchrisf replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have gotten a couple that I wanted but mostly buying Tamiya as they have more that I want. Got an email from Hobbylinc today that says "Tamiya is Raising Their Prices !!" They are getting me from both sides... Tamiya and Revell -
I just read what you wrote... If I build this box stock will it be much easier? Also, that is one of the best weathering jobs I have ever seen... it is perfect.

Man.. that looks so good. Great job, you should be proud. I just got one of these kits last week and look forward to doing it... I just wish I could do it as good as you did yours.
-
I love these prototype cars... you did a great job on this one. I've got a couple of these on order that I can't wait to start.

I like your style Ian.. that supra looks great! I just ordered the Tom's Castrol Supra GT yesterday.

What are the best, inexpensive cans of spray flat black and semi-gloss black lacquer paints? One thing I think I have learned 2 1/2 cars into this hobby is to use a spray lacquer for the above recommended base coats (i.e., black, semi-black, etc.)... either decanted and airbrushed, or straight out of the can. Then any detail work with a brush or toothpick can be easily cleaned up if I mess up. I will not be using any more craft acrylics but probably Vellajo or Tamiya acrylics for very small detail work unless you all have a better recommendation. I will be spraying everything else with lacquers for the dry time, durability and quality of paint... especially the body. I got some Duplicolor Sandable Primer (which is great btw) and went ahead and picked up the Duplicolor Perfect Match Universal Chrome just for the heck of it while I was there and it looks really nice on the small exhaust pipes I put it on. Looks better than any chrome plated piece that comes with the kit.

Looks and sounds like you had a great time Ian!

I love these style of cars and yours looks great... I almost purchased this one a few weeks ago but it is definitely still on my radar.
-
Nice.. I'll be following this one to see what lays ahead of my build of the same kit.
-
Thanks Tiago.. you taught me something so I'll have to try doing that since I also have Tamiya extra thin. I can also get AK Interactive Xtreme Metal here in the states so I'll have to try some of those sometime. That exhaust is so shiny it is almost like chrome. I'm subscribed to your channel so I'll be following your progress and learning more from you.
