  1. Welcome Komrade
  2. I can kind of understand the truck thing. GMC also does bigger industrial trucks so it kind of makes sense to have some light duty trucks in their line otherwise some companies might get their industrial trucks from GMC and light duties from Ford. It is less likely with everything on the same lot. It used to their was very little about Pontiac, Chevy, Olds, Buick however there is a little more seperation between them now. I agree the Hummer line is stupid. It's not even really a Hummer anymore. It is built on the PU chassis. It was clearly a status symbol to many. It wouldn't be that hard to fix up GM, but you can't do it with the standard corporate mindset, obviously. And it always seems like they do things backwards. Closing plants and or reducing production is always first, corp bonuses, jets, perks and million dollar salaries last. GM needs stripped down to bare bones from TOP to bottom, not the otherway around because I would almost lay money down that costs, redundancies, perks, and things that are getting in the way of lean business practices only get worse and more out of hand as you go UP the chain. I further agree, if you are going to continue Pont Buick and Chevy make em different, otherwise there is little point in it any more. Brand loyalty is at an all time low. So if some cust are diehard Buick fans and you axe Buick it's not going to be the end of the world. But if you are going to keep Buick don't make it a Chevy with some Buick trim on it. Make it a Buick. Ya not fooling anyone. And consistantly going to the cheapest vendors around isn't saving you anything. Build a quality car and it cost what it costs. Porsche is one of the most profitable car manufactuers in the world and far out pace even Toyota in pure net profits. One of the best examples is in GM's infinate wisdom had a choice between a .003 cent Japanese connector and a .002 Korean connector for their transmissions GM figured that even at 1/10 of a cent per copy they would save hundreds of thousands of dollars over millions of vehicles. However the cheaper connector failed, there was even a recall campain for a time on it and the fix was replace the connector under warr at $52.00 over millions and millions of vehicles. They do this all the time and wonder why they don't make a profit. Even at the point of retail they have shot themselves in the the foot. Not just one but both feet. It will be years before sales start uprighting themselves. And it goes on and on, largely because of, "as of this ten seconds" mentality, and virtually no perception of a year, five, ten or more down the road. And it's because it's all run by lawyers, accountants, anylists, who wouldn't know how to build an exciting car if their lives depended on it.
  3. you may want to consider a fuel efficent 1.6 aircooled bug engine.
  4. Yeah, but some of what his ideas and what he proposes is exactly what got GM into so much trouble in the first place.
  5. looks good, BMF, once you get it on it's pretty durably and I use Q-tips and really rub it on. It is amazing how hard you can rub and how much wrinkles you can get out just by rubbing the BMF out with Q-tips.
  6. That's the problem when you are in business to be in business and not in business to build a car... or whatever you're supposed to be in business for.
  7. Not really. Seems to be only the beginning of the story. At it's pinnacle the dems didn't do it, either. I guess by your logic that means .... um End of story? Look, I am not anchored in one or the other, but I believe in logic, truth, what is right, honest and fair. I believe in what is practical and makes good common sense, and quite frankly I haven't seen much if any from either party lately. But again this isn't the time nor place for this disscussion, if you would like to continue it in another forum let me know. However, if you keep feeding GM, Ford, Banks and Credit companies, and any other big business to large to fail we'll never upright our economy. Let em all fail. It will be bad... for a while, but this path will be worse in the long run. We are just handing out licenses to big business to be wreckless and irresponsible because there is no accountablility from any one, including the Gov.
  8. A couple of things come to my mind. If the gentleman bought a copy or print of the picture, he could post those pictures because he paid for them. Not technically true. Another thing is that a lot of pictures fall under public domain where as soon they're put up on a web site or sharing site, anybody can use them. How so? Also if the person does not protect his copyright, it will fall under public domain, e.g. by filing suits he is protecting his copyright. Also not accurate or true.
  9. and what did democrates do the last two years in charge? No it was a feel good warm and fuzzy left idea that failed because they didn't, or maybe they did, have the foresight to see this coming a mile away. look ma more people owned houses than ever before. Isn't that just great, what a great world we live in... who bloody cares if they can't afford them. But this is neither the place or time for any of this nonsense.
  10. However, they were at large responsible for crafting the mess that led to the bailouts. And it was B. Clinton who sign the bill that led us down this path.
  11. Yeah but we dont. We have wacko looney-toons running the country. We're waiting for what we always wait for.... Winston Churchill said it, "You can always count on the Americans to do the right thing, only after they tried everything else first." We haven't tried every idodic, stupid, insane idea that wacko looney-toons dreampt up yet. Corn.. Ethenol E85 ... there's a brilliant idea ... 4 gal of diesel to make 1 gal of ethenol. And you got wackos complaining about food for fuel on top of it. Speaking of diesels cars more stupid nonsense from Washington haha VW still was able to fix their cars to burn clean on dirty US diesel fuel. Which if either Ford or GM had half a brain and built a decent car would have a global market for diesel cars. They are not what they used to be. Clean, powerful, fun to drive, quiet and get in the neighborhood of 50+mpg. If Audi R10 and Peugoet haven't proven that yet.... Hello. If everyone in SoCal drove a Porsche Turbo the air there would be something like 35% cleaner because the car is so efficent what is going out the tailpipe is cleaner than what is going in the airbox. Why GM, Ford, and Chrysler is so far behind the curve is beyond common sense. Hydrogen is just a carrier fuel it still takes energy to generate so it's not free and it's only really renewable depentant on the source of generation.
  12. Actually, with Porsche buying VW, which owns Audi, Bentely, SEAT, Lamborghini, Skoda, and Spyker with a Joint venture with FAW, Porsche is set to be the biggest manufacture in the world surpassing Ford GM and Toyota. Last year when Toyota passed GM with selling 2.54m vehicles world wide The VW "brand" did 2.11m 2007 (2.21m through july 2008 - 2.24 for Toyota during the same period) and is reporting +10-30%gains this year and the VW group is on pace to do 4.81m for 2008. With Toyota loosing market share and VW gaining in most markets including the US VW will pass Toyota this year.
  13. It's bad news. Ford's stock is worse, but overall not nearly as bad of situation as GM. GM's stock will be worthless when they, which they will, fail to repay their current bonds. The major problem with GM finances is they have no open lines of credit any longer. i.e. all loans are secured now. Ford doesn't have this same problem, so when they run out of money, which they are doing rapidly, they cannot function any longer because virtually all their current assets are already collateral for loans they already have and cannot pay back. The most likely senerio is GM defaults on their bonds, goes bankrupt, and gets a Gov bailout - but this means all their stock is worth $0.00. Worst case is GM Defaults on their bonds, goes bankrupt, and GM assets get's sold off. This still means GM stock is worthless. Their first biggest mistake was having someone from the food industry who knew nothing of the auto biz running GM for 20+ years. They did finally get a "Car Guy" in but it was too late for them... the damage was already done.

    GT series

Actually it wasn't an EVO either. The Petit car that flipped was a Porsche GT1/98 which had strikingly different body work than the EVO. There was a long list of cars that did flip and it was partially FIA to blame for the rules... in their infinate wisdom they thought by banning the under car ground effects would slow them down. While they are better and don't take off on there own so much, if they get out of shape they still like to fly. There were several cars that did fly this past year. Nothing like the Mercs though, which the long frontal overhang was attributed to there three flights at the 99 LeMans. IIRC it happened to Mark Webber twice.

Although the backflipper was a different car. But that was when LeMans the series and ALMS was good. GT1 GT2 GT3 GTR
  16. by and large Revell are overall better kits fit and finish. AMT did do some okay kits, however, the entire line is spoty. In addition, some of AMT's better kits have fit and finish issues. Nevertheless, AMT does have some kits worth building.
  17. Pretty much. the new car is a long way away from the 08 car. Larger front and rear wing. Adjustable front wing from cockpit Back to full slick tires. More or less all the winglets al gone. Some prototype perspective sketches and the new car will probably look more like a stripped down 06 car with slicks.
  18. I agree, and would had done the same. I don't know why some people think they need to cheat to win. I can honestly say I never felt compleled to cheat to win anything, and I have no tolerance for cheaters (okay, ole sparky may be a bit extreme). Moreover, not to call a cheater out is just giving them a license to cheat again and again. I also believe I would have pushed for a future ban of the cheater, paticularly after causing a scene, and would have been looking for a compelling reason for lifing the ban. I futher, don't tolerate or care to associate with people who turn a head to cheaters or let it go by the wayside.... OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!

  20. everybody makes stuff for Fujimi 250. I got mine HLJ $30. I don't know about that, the Protar engine is very crude and many missing details.

  22. I vaugely remember that too, I might have seen it at Strada Sport.
  23. I concur, it was probably the most exciting F1 season in a long time, perhaps ever. Coming down to the corner of the last lap of the last race of the year the title was won by Hamilton by the skin of his teeth...
  24. Kimi wont, he just wont do anything on purpose. Alonso who is just behind hamster might; however, hamster is his own worse enemy at times and has the greatest likelyhood of doing something stupid. Rain could be good for Ferrari as I think Hammie set up for more dry conditions to nab pole. It's also one of those tracks that the first corner could be a train wreck. I guess we wait and see.
  25. Maybe that's the Gulf door they were using I don't remember if it was 007 but one of them borrowed a door for the Gulf team.
