CAL replied to george 53's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yup, can't do that anymore, since Oct 8th IIRC. -
it's a VW of some sort. Scirocco? Maybe it's a Steam Roller. Tirpitz, maybe.

That's hilarious... almost had to go home early from work.

Revell Discontinuing NASCAR Model Kits

I agree, I didn't read anything that was bashing NASCAR builders specifically either. What is there "to get?" -
Revell Discontinuing NASCAR Model Kits
CAL replied to larrygre's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It seems that NASCAR peaked out about 1999, so it's no real surprise that Revell discontinued them. Even in the LHS the NASCAR selection has been very sparce the past few years. Even the COT is about 40 years out of date. Ironic, hu? Surprisingly SCCA sports car classes is the fast growing motorsport the past couple years running. -
MODEL CAR CONTESTS AND CLUBS.
CAL replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That sounds like a good idea, I have many awards, plaques, trophies and ribbons, I'd much rather be in a mag than get another award, etc. For me it was never about the awards. I just liked to see all the other models and maybe pick up a tip or two, learn a new techique, or be inspired to build something in particular. I agree, peoples choice isn't always the fairest, but seems to work out the best over all. -
MODEL CAR CONTESTS AND CLUBS.
CAL replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I know that feeling. Never really thought it terms of class or tax bracket though, just decent people opposed to jerks. Some of the highest "class" people have the lowest class. Those are the models that seem to get the most attention, new, something not run of the mill: however there are two classes of "not run of the mill" A. true craftsmanship and B. Fancy fluff. -
MODEL CAR CONTESTS AND CLUBS.
CAL replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Interesting you say that. It does seem that the "upper echelon" builders are also the upper echelon people. It also seems most of the trouble comes from upper middle of the road people who have something to prove or think they are better than they really are. I also used to think a model contest was a social event, until it became not so social any longer. This place has become a good substitute: some modeling socializing and a show and tell. -
MODEL CAR CONTESTS AND CLUBS.
CAL replied to E St. Kruiser50's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Definitely depends on who is hosting it. I have been to some really good fair shows, but I have also been to some that were clearly slanted -- club members won 100% of all awards two years in a row when there were clearly better models from non-club members. Interestingly, it was also the club members exclusively who judged the show. Never returned to that one. However, virtually in everything you will get a degree of BIAS. Nevertheless, FWIW, I was president of a IPMS chapter once upon a time, however I got tired. I got tired of the little clicks and politics. So I just don't belong to any clubs here. I build for myself first and I don't have to compete against clicks and politics. I think that is where it starts. When "you" start building for click, political reasons, and trophies "you" start to become a different person, IMHO, and I have seen it happened to pretty good guys - who have become intolerable tyrants for a trophy and or a title. Furthermore, in some instances has be come so transparent its cracked a few other good modelers right out of the hobby - or to the state I am in: modeling for myself and pretty much keeping it to myself. E.G. I don't go to shows and contests any longer. Really, I am not bitter about and become a much happier hobbiest. -
That musthave been what happened to the front of it, too.

It's a Steam Roller!

Honda is done in F1. The team is for sale and do not plan on competing in 2009. In other F1 news Cosworth won the spec engine if FIA pursues the standard engine in 2010.

Okay, been slow but keep plugging away on it. Scratched interior door panels.

Three Stooges going back to D.C.
CAL replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That maybe in NET profits, but there is another car company that makes the most gross profit. It's not Toyota. In fact, it's not even Japanese. Funny the most successful car company in the world is hardly even recongnized. I mean Ferrari made 800M in the 3rd quarter of this year, so even Ferrari is not far behind Toyota in net profits. And they can't keep paying UAW wages, which are twice what non-union import factories here in the states are paying in wages. Although the story part doesn't seem to far from the truth from my corp. experience. - A lot of people "busy" but nothing going on. -
I just BMFed mine.

I don't know what they were thinking with this Panamera. You should have seen how Dr. Porsche reacted with his birthday surprise: A four door 928. That didn't go over well at all. I did mine in "Ambush Scheme" Hopefully it derails before going into production. I mean who are they going to sell it too?

Question for the motor gurus
CAL replied to Aaronw's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually the DB601AA was a gear driven supercharger. There was also a Turbocharged DB601 used in the D017 -

Probably not there was a lot of small body differences where the decals don't fit, especially around the headlamps.
