Formula 1 70 days and counting
CAL replied to eburg_Dub's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
WCC Ferrari WDC Massa Yup, even if LW improves, and Ferrari just correct their team mistakes and Massa stays the same it should be Massa/Ferrari and perhaps even decided before the final race. Massa/Ferrari left some 60+ points on the table and most of them were from the team mistakes. There was almost an equal amount of points left on the table from LW, but they were almost all LW's mistakes. -
I like the clean look without all the added winglets, but my god man, the front and rear wing arrangment is just weird. It's already been mention by serveral including Massa who took the first spin in the new car said something about the front wing getting clipped off.

because if you built one you'd become very intimate with it and know. the Aurora 250 is all out of wack. This one is too, but is reasonably accurate for the car it was modled after, which did have the rear creamed off the back of it. The people that rebuilt it took some liberties with rescuplting the rear to include using wider wheels and some kind of aero advantage. And that was a long time ago, I am sure they never considered what one might be worth down the road. There is said to be only 1, maybe 2 250s that are more or less unmolested in the entire world. The rest of them, and there were not that many to begain with, have been raced, crashed, modifed, crashed, hacked up, restored, raced, crashed, updated and changed.

Kind of stupid looking if you ask me http://f60.ferrariworld.com/

I saw the BMW in near to race trim today. Very odd looking indeed. The powers are pushing it, but it seems like it falling by the wastside with the teams.

I can't wait to see what the new cars are going to look like. Some teams have shown their new, and much larger front wings on the old 08 chassis. Looks odd in deed, but the 09 cars should look significantly different overall. Here is the launch schd. January 12 - Ferrari, online / Fiorano, Italy January 15 - Toyota TF109, online January 16 - McLaren MP4-24, Woking, UK January 19 - Renault R29, Algarve Motor Park, Portugal January 19 - Williams FW31, Algarve Motor Park, Portugal January 20 - BMW Sauber F1.09, Valencia, Spain January 20 - Toyota TF109 (track debut), Algarve Motor Park, Portugal February 9 - Red Bull RB5, Jerez, Spain

Testor's Metalizers How To ?
CAL replied to MADmodelDOCTOR's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I like using metalizers. I find that they work real well airbrushed over Tamiya primers. The work best airbrushed. Old thicker metalizers can be brushed, but is never as good as airbrushed. There are two kinds, buffing and non-buffing. Buffing can be polished up a little. I sometimes use SNJ power to polish. And they take real well to ink washes. I think sealing them, however, takes a little away from the metalizer effect. On the other hand, if handle you will leave prints, and it's real thin and over handling will take metalizers off. -
coming along well. That was one of the hard things about building this kit was the very faint trim lines. I, too, had to go back a rescribe most of them. IIRC there were some annoyances with this one, but the over all assembly was okay. If you are going to use the kit mirrors I would figure to pin them. The rear panel doesn't fit quite right on mine and never figured out why. There might a been a few other small things.

I have to build too. I think it may have been one of their old electric motor kits way back when converted to a static model. Their snap-lock Porsche are pretty basic too. Looks good so far though.

I would like to change mine to a unpronoucable symbol, similar to the one used by the artist formerly known as Prince. -

Photo Etched parts; brand name...or?
CAL replied to Saturnine's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree, generally the AM PE is far better than Tamiya. The do excellent kits but fall down on their face when it comes to PE. Photo Etching is a a photo etching process that in real basic terms is you start with plate mask part of it off with "resist" a photo-chemical expose, wash off, the area to be etched, dip it in an acid bath to etch away the unwanted material - you can do double etchs to get surface detail. same idea, more compex because you are doing everything twice. If you ever want to know the nitty gritty of PE ask and I will tell you. I have done some custom PE at home. It is a big PITA, but over all not that hard. Just a lot of steps make a fret. -
2009 automotive releases from Revell Germany
CAL replied to Luc Janssens's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)

Revell 1/24 Ferrari's
CAL replied to curt raitz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That seems to be a Revell thing... maybe a model thing in general. They all could use a little lowering. -
It's just a quick easy to build out of the box model you can put on the shelf in 24-96 hrs. Some people just like building them that fast and not do any extras. It's a long long long story but I knew this guy who had a collection of 200+ model airplanes built at his house and not a one had a spec of paint on it. For others, it's a good way to jump start building after a building stall or slump.

Watching LeMans last night on TMC and
CAL replied to Ken's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yup, they were all 917K the #25 had a LH tail on it and the #20, which really wasn't driven by McQueen in the real race was just a K. McQueen's entry #26 was DQed so he didn't get to race in the real race. The car he drove in the movie was actually #22 rebuild after the real race wreck. The movie crash cars were Lola T70s with a 917 body. There was probably some 330s still running in 1970-71. It's been a long time since I have seen that movie. That was the plot: Clash of the Titans Porsche VS Ferrari. -
Yup, that is largely what it all been about. Of course some series are nothing more than show and entertianment that has no practical application to the street.

Which Porsche could do if they wanted to. They have money, well maybe not anymore since buying controlling intrest in VW, so techniclly they already have a LMP1 car, but it is rumored of a Porsche LMP1 Coupe in the works. Yeah, as far as I know they are still building the RS Spyder. There are several privateers, the problem with that is typically if the factory isn't runing a team the developement stops.
-
Probably, not much reason for to continue production of it. Could spell the end of WRC with only four manufactures left in the 09 season.
-
We know why Porsche dropped out. It was money. They said if they couldn't win overall they were not interested. They are supposed to be building and campaining a DP.
