12 Hours of Sebring race details
CAL replied to Nick F40's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Pugs have a new plan, we will see if it works. I think on new tire Mcnish wouldn't have got around so easy. -

They were also fastest in practice today. Acura was down in 3rd. Yeah, that is what I was just thinking that the Pugs and Audis are going to run away with it in the first couple laps if not the first could corners. For Acura, first time out on a track that is very hard on cars may DNF. Not only everything you stated is correct the tire itself particularly in the sidewall has an effect on the suspension and the set up is drastically different front to rear so using a rear tire on the front just by design doesn't work that well. They say that the P2 Mazda Lolas maybe the P1 Acura's main rival for the championship. They also say that this is probably the last year for the Audi in P1. 2010 IIRC mandates closed cockpit and there is talk of a Porsche replacing the Audi in P1 in a year or two. The other squeaky wheel is in GT2, and most everybody is saying the BMW M is not legal, but I guess hasn't gone any farther or probably will unless they stomp the competition. -

It's been tried before but hasn't worked in the past by other teams. Furthermore, Sebring is a rough track on cars and the Acura's have been said to be a bit fragile compaired to the Audis and Peugoets. I thought Mcnish was getting booted off Team Audi. -
I guess we will see, FOTA proposed a point structure that was unanimously turned down by FIA.

We'll see if they last. -
So let me get this straight. If you get to 9 wins you don't have to show up any more? This is really perhaps the single stupidest thing FIA has ever done.
-
Clearly they all got drunk and though hey, wouldn't this be a good idea. It's the only explanation.

Oh Yeah, GT2 is going to be the most interesting class all year. Most cars most diversified field. I am sure the Pug will put on a good battle with the R15. My money is on the Lizards. Hope Mazda brings in the 1 2 in LMP2. I kind of rooting for the Pugs over all. Most of the rest of the year I really dont see Acura taking the fight to the R15. The Aston looks good. How come I don't see it on the entry list? -
Don't be giving Jerry any ideas.

1971 Saloon Car Championship
CAL replied to Nick F40's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Hey Nick, 12hrs of Sebring next weekend. Peugeot will battle the new R12. Only 3 LMP2 cars 2 Mazdas and an Accura. and just the 2 Corvettes in GT1. Kind of wierd not to see Porsche in LMP F1 at Melbourne in two weeks. BTW Mclaren has a problem car and has been at the bottom of the test days time sheets for most of the past 30 days. They have conceded that the do not have a car to challenge for a win at Melbourne but were confidant they'd get it sorted out in the next 30-45 days. Seems their car doesn't make adequate down force. LH crashed his car this week in the final test day for most and was dead last on the time sheet. -
Looks like junk.
-
He claims to have it titled in ohio.

Well that was the beauty of a Gray Market car. It was built to pass US specs but had some of the euro performace gains. But it would have had to been a Gray Market car. If it's not a Gray Market car you're wasting your time with it in this country unless you are going to race it. Your Merc didn't sould like a Gray Market car, and they were most limited to special performace cars. We got a couple new Gray Market 930s.
-
We never had any trouble with that.
-
I vaguely remember a steering column recall or service bulletin.
-
I could never figure that out, they finally nearly prefect the 944 with the 968 (fixed virtually everything that was wrong with the 944) and then stopped making it.
-
Looks like a dasher knockoff.
-
Donno what you are trading for it, but it's a $2500-$5000 car. It's basically a first year econo 944 and they have all kinds of problems, however this on seems like it was taken care of at least. Being "gray market" it a little bit better car than we got state side, but the 924/944 didn't really get sorted out til the 968. However, I bet there'd be some Porsche club racer that would like to get their hands on it. If it doesn't have all the Porsche updates it could be several thousands of dollars to update and maintain. It was one of the most underdeveloped premature Porsche dumped into the market. They got better over time.

has anyone used the micro mark etching kit?
CAL replied to Smart-Resins's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yup if you don't have decent artwork and a real good neg you're just doing the dog. -
I think I saw the Tirpitz in the background.

I had an auto etch for a while, nothing that hard to do. Just very time consuming, and you have to be careful throughout the process. There are many steps to making a good PE sheet and you have to be pretty exact with everything, and need to be proficient with some kind of Illustrator program, have a connection with someone who can do matrix printing, and some dark room/photography experience is helpful.
