Brazilian Grand Prix Tomorrow...
CAL replied to Len Colombo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I am, last race and both titles TBA! It doen't get any better than this. Massa on Pole. Yeah light rain in the am and heavy rain afternoon. Although Massa was holding his own on a cool damp track in practice. Hamster boy has all his Friends around him Kimster to the side of Alonso behind. If it's raining Hamster could be in trouble as they took off a bunch of wing trying to get pole. His car was pretty loose in qualifying. I hope Massa wins too. This is the exact same position as last year, but I think he qualifed higher last year. Maybe this will be the track that haunts him. He can't "love" ever track... which to date he said ... "I love this place it's a fantasic circut" about every track he goes to. -
Cats don't wear PJs, but I was thinking my cat would be pretty sporting in a Ferrari cape. My wife thinks I'm nuts though

I guess. Finders-keepers neener neener neener.

Didn't really have mechnical problems, but had lots of electrical issues. and the front struts kept poping the threaded colars off. Yeah, I actually made money on mine... It had a long history. My dad bought it new and was the one who did the mods and sold it, ten years later my sister was looking for a car and happened to come across my dads old car for sale and bought it. I bought it off her shortly after that for $1200 and had it about a year, it caught fire, and I sold for $1500.

If that happens that would explain not having a production based car in GT.

I like the Gulf colors but it look just so right in green. -
Well that's a long way off, a lot could happen between now and then. They are leaving GT1 because no competition, though only for GT2. However, they will probably have a GT1 at LeMans until the money dries up, but they haven't been real strong at LeMans the past couple years. Ferrari's beat em up Astin's beat em up, they beat themselves up... They have limited RD money and are using an old car.

Mclaren also poo-poo FIA and Max spec engine proposel. I hear Kia want's to join Formula One. -
That is cool, I owned one too, A Bertone SE with a race cam, header, and webers. It was a fun little car to drive, but had problems a plenty.

They are always threatening to leave. First FIA thinks Ferrari is missunderstanding the new rule. The propsal is really a spec engine where a team can build there own engine or use a third party engine, or another manufacture engine. They have x (12 or so days) to submit proposed engines to be considered. FIA parting words was if you have a better idea to keep cost down we will listen, but otherwise we are pushing forward with this idea - as bad as it is. However, if F1 does go to a spec engine that will be the end of F1. There will still being racing, but it's not going to be F1, and they are going to loose all there fan base. Today FIA basically told Ferrari to pound sand. Ferrari earnings for 3rd qrt was 585 M Euros and said that there isn't anyone that can compete with that. If Max, Bernie and FIA keep jacking with it that will be the end of F1. -

Is this the car that flew farther than the Wright Bros. first flight? -
Please, stop the madness.

Nothing here either, and I know it works. I get PM regularly that go to my email from here. I guess we know where they all going to. Conspiracy, I say.

Alot of the Seville kits were leftover warehouse stock, test shots, and seconds that they boxed up to get started. To the best of my knowledge they didn't actually do any injection production runs, which is why the lawsuit came about. That is why you found some strange stuff in Seville boxed kits- odd colors and just factory defects. It seems to be Jo-Han assets are more of stuff junk picked from the dumpster that would be significantly more expesive to restore that starting over. Plus if they are indeed Beryllium, which they could be - probably nobody wants to touch it. Notwithstanding, it's highly regulated by the government because it's main use is in nuclear weapons and Beryllium dust is toxic, if not leathel. The very best least costly thing to do with them is ship them overseas to somewhere that could repair the tools because there are some places that don't have regulations on Beryllium and can Beryllium tool-make at a pretty reasonable cost. Just sitting on them here isn't ever going to get anywhere. Someone with half a brain and capital needs to take control... but as I understand it there has been some people with half a brain and capital who have simply flat out passed on the proposition.

Here is some exact verbatim from Jo-Han Models LLC FAQs. "Several molds have pieces missing and or damaged. We were told by many that former Jo-Han employees, that disgruntled employees took mold pieces out of the building to sell for scrap." "Any new tool would be a major investment in both time and money. New tools are at least 3 years away." "Due to a dispute with a molder, we have had to drastically cut STYRENE and ABS prodcution. As a temoprary solution, we have added many resin parts." "Because some buyser failed to read or failed to believe the preceding caveat (buyer beware), it has regretfully become necessary to begin deleting some resin items from the catalog." Essencially what is left for sale is some decals, a few clear sets, a couple resin tubs and tires for Promos. The same two kits to be released soon are the same two kits that have been there for 4 years. "Due to many complaints by people who do not understand the labor intensive nature of resin casting these will NOT be available on the website..." "July 30 2005" "Delivery dates not guaranteed." It doesn't sound like the makings of a very strong company but rather a company in big trouble, and if they haven't alienated the few customers they have left I'd be surprised.

That is what I've been saying. Look, Seville bought what was left of JoHan in the 1990s and couldn't make a go of it. In fact, it resulted in a lawsuit which they won because there wasn't enough left of the JoHan tools to make a single kit.... It's been 30years since the employees of JoHan distroyed, or lost what was left of JoHan and it's been in the second set of hands since for 8+ years. It's pretty clear that if there actually anything worth anything someone, Seville, Okey, or someone else would have produced something, but it's been 30 years and nothing ... that should tell you something. Okey himself said, if you read between the lines, there is nothing left of the orginal tools except junk, he has already stated that what was there was mostly damaged beyond resonable repair, and or missing significant parts to make work. Short of completely retooling there just isn't going to be anymore Johan - end of story. I think Okey is just in business now to keep the urban ledge of JoHan's resurection alive, but it's about as real as Yeddie-Big Foot, Loch Ness Monster, Vampires and Wearwolves, and a three dollar bill.
-
The sad truth of the Johan tools, is by Okey's own account is there isn't much left and what is left is in far worse shape than originally thought. He has had the tools for 8 years now, and if there was anything worth anything someone would have done something with them. Johan, under Okey, has been reduced to making a few resin copies, and that has even become seemingly hopeless. Best Resin who was doing the resin molds and casts is OB.

Thanks, that's right I always forget who makes that stuff.

1. Testors Pro Red or Bondo Glaze, either is pretty much the same thing. The White Testors is junk, as well as Squadron putties, run away! 2. I have been using Future with pretty good results. 3. ELO Pactra I think.

They brought back the lollypop man and it's been working just fine for them, so little chance of the traffic light misshap reoccuring. -
Chinese Grand Prix Results...

There is no next few races, just one. Brazil, where historically Massa dominates. Yeah, I heard that too, basically nobody talks or associates with him. This is the exact senerio as last year, Hamilton going into Brazil with a 7pt lead over FA and finished 7th loosing the WDC. We can only hope for the same... It's Hamilton's to loose. -
How To Make Opening & Functional Doors, Hoods, and Trunks
CAL replied to nwmud's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I have used a number of techniques, thread, jewler's saw, razor blade, back side of a #11. They all work well, and sometimes it just depends on the kit which way to go, sometimes I use an assortment on one kit. -
One of many reasons to not use super glue. The problem is when super glue gets old and there is moisture in the air you get this "crazing". CA also reacts with oil from your fingers. There is not much you can do about it once it happens, but you can try a little future to help lessen the "crazed" area. At least make it less noticable. Expoxy is often the better way to go in substitution for CAs. FWIW, a crazed joint is also not as strong.
