Which Daytona Spyder is in the Testors box?
CAL replied to CAL's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's not a Ferrari, it is a Corvette. -
Thanks, I am. I am just to a slow part of the build, filing down all the rims and fixing up the front suspension. What do you mean I had to make an adjustment to everything Not the fire wall, plenty of room there, but it is a tight squeeze around the battery tray and the floor on the other side. Like I have mentioned everthing is a very tight fit. With the front engine surround, firewall, and with the radiator on the chassis, and like you I put the lower valance on, it all just fits. You have to squeeze it all foward as much as you can before bringing the chassis w/ the motor in place up. The first time I tried fitting it together I was like oh-oh, don't fit, but I figured out how to get the front of the chassis and radiator past the engine bay walls and the lower valance - it is tight ... i'd go as far as to say it's an interference fit. I know what you are talking about know. It is tight there too: firewall with that air duct. Luckly there is a little spot of room there for the bundle of wires, it fits just perfect. It is hard to get the engine and chassis in and out though. I also made my dist cap and wire set up scratch so maybe that made the difference.

Which Daytona Spyder is in the Testors box?

I can, they have both the Spyder and Coupe, I have been pawing... but it;s $100.00 worth of plastic. This Ferrari binge is putting me in the poor house. -
Which Daytona Spyder is in the Testors box?
CAL replied to CAL's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Okay solved, it IS the Italeri kit, which leads me to the next question. Understanding it is NOT the Fujimi kit, which is $53 at the LHS, how good is it? -
Which Daytona Spyder is in the Testors box?

I didn't think so, Italeri did a Daytona Spyder? I am looking and can't tell from the poor picture of the box, which has the model pictured on the cover. They guy is selling it as the M-Vice car, but I don't think that is right. The listing says it's a Testors/Fujimi, but I am not sure about that either. -

Lewis Hamilton's Verdict in!
CAL replied to CAL's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
No, you are right about that, they can't keep every one happy, but for any one who has been following this as close as I have will see that the support isn't largely on Hamilton's side. Most of the F1 MB think the penalty was harsh but fair. Most of Hamilton's track rivals think the penalty was harsh but fair, I will note that not a singe F1 driver came out and said he was robbed. The F1 official site also is heavily in the camp that Hamilton will not win this appeal. History FWIW says it's a long shot, and Hamilton could fair even worse than penalty he already recieved. I also agree, especailly if they (FIA) doesn't curb him (Hamilton) he is going to hurt himself or some body else. Clearly from the quotes I read today he is out of control and can do no wrong -- "he is the best in the world." McLaren isn't doing anything to stop him. In fact, they seem only to be adding fuel to his fire. -
Lewis Hamilton's Verdict in!
CAL replied to CAL's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think FIA will be looked at with more of a raised eyebrow if they overturn it. I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if he (Hamilton) took an additional penalty for raising frivolous appeals. It has happened before. And Hamilton used strong words at the hearing today, and talked down to the Judges saying (saying he had to talk down to those people), “That it takes special skills to make split second decision, and no one who isn’t a F1 driver could understand.†“Are any of you a F1 driver?†“No.†“Believe me I have been doing this since I was 8 years old and I know every maneuver in the book, and I am the best in world...†He additionally said that he could be doing a lot better things than defending himself today, but those 6 points were important to him and the WDC. They just can't let him be above the law, which is exactly where he will be if they do overturn this. -
Purchasing test shots
CAL replied to sapphiregt's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I am not sure what you got, but I always got test shots for free. -
Lewis appeared in Paris at the International Court for illegally overtaking Kimi at Spa. They first had to argue if it was admissable in court, which there are rumors that it was admissable and they were allowed to continue into their other arguments. 1. Race Control saying it was okay. 2. Unclear rule to start with and the clearification at Monza. 3. Hamilton cut the cicane to avoid a collission with KR. Nobody is saying anything... the hearing, which lasted most of the day, ended several hours ago. We will have to wait until tommorrow, or about 12hrs for the verdict. Historically, however, the FIA Inter. Court has not overturned many cases, and historically, they have increased the penalty. The outcome with certianly have a bearing on the WDC for 2008. Some say that if the penalty is overturned that will hand the WDC to Hamilton. Other say that if the penalty is upheld it will be the biggest travisty of justice in F1. However, I am not so sure the majority of the F1 community is in aggreement with Mclaren and Hamilton. They did collect 32,000 signatures from fan on a petition to give Hamilton's points back. I am not convienced that is even a significant number, considering the fan base is in the millions. My personal thoughts, regardless of my personal veiw of Hamilton, he deserved the penalty, and Mclaren should have just accepted it and let it go. I think the court will have to rule to have the penalty upheld, otherwise it will be a license to continue with the Hamilton antics. Furthermore, they would have to have significant evidence to have this overturned. Something, that no one can argue for overturning. McLaren sounded confident they had some evidence, but was it enough? Secondarly, fair or not, FIA has said they had to look out for Ferrari's interest. They are the minority, with most of F1 teams and people are out of England, the Italian team is somewhat isolated from the majority of F1 core community. We will know soon. The Official F1 website pole 25% said Hamilton will be successful. 68% said Hamilton will NOT be successful. 5% didn't know.

Doesn't matter too much what you tires you use the wheels are going to stick out to far without some work. The rear is pretty easy just drill the brakes out to the next step and the inner rim so you can slide them inboard more. The fronts are more work, but I have found that you can correct a lot of problems with shorting the upper are length. That will fix the huge positive camber to neutrual or negative camber, flip the knuckles side to side and this will drop the front down. Otherwise it tends to sit with the nose up. With the knuckles on the right sides the positive camber is horrible. The doors, I agree, are complete botched, and if you take them down to the line on the top of the frame that will be about right. However, then you need to fill in the roof so there isn't a huge gap. There is also no inner door panels or inner frame, which were pretty deep. I have seen one maybe two pictures of a 250 GTOs with these or like M&S tires. I haven't been lucky enough to find a sutable replacement without getting a whole wheel and tire replacement kit for $40 - $120 depending on how much you want to spend on a set of Borranis.
-
It's, what can you say about a Ferrari 250 GTO that hasn't already been said. I might even want to do another one
-
Looks good, same kit I am building right now in the other 250 GTO thread.
-
No, but I have seen people cut them up and rearrange dashes to change a RH to a LH drive.

That SA sure looks good orange. I don't know why there isn't more orange Ferrairs. -
The ROG or a 250 GTO in general? It is buildable, I think, so far every time I think it has me licked it worked out somehow... everything just barely fits and if anything is the slight bit off you're done. There are a lot of pit-falls though and I can see how it would easily end up back on the self, smashed against a wall or in the trash. It is not a shake-n-bake kit. It is definitely a skill level 5 kit, or higher, but probably not quite as insane as a Fujimi Enthusiast kit. The good news is that it is a fun build so it is easier to overcome the difficulties, compared to a hard kit that isn't any fun to build either. There has been nothing that caused any real aggravation. Getting the suspension set up is probably the hardest most time consuming part, and there is pretty much one sequence it goes together a deviation would pretty much insure a failure to finish the kit. That is to say if you follow the instructions you will get to a point where it would be almost impossible to finish, but if you deviate from the instructions there is one other way it can go together. If you glue a part in or an assembly in to early the rest of it will never go together. You will just have to try building one to know what I mean, but I can try to answer any questions along the way.
-
Thanks! I have a Fujimi 250 GTO enroute to compare... The Italeri is probably a little better kit overall and a lot less work; however, they are rare and going for $50 - $70.
-
Sorry no F40s. What did you do loose them already.
-
Yeah, I am just becoming a regular ole Ferrari guy. I didn't know you were building a Ferrari. It's coming down to "brass tacks" for the WDC so I had to make something up to show support for Massa. Don't worry though Porsche is still first in my book.
-
Well I finally got it on wheels. The suspension is a mess and had to correct almost everthing. If you don't correct it the wheels stick out too far and it sits like the motor has been pulled out - with the nose way up. Bringing the wheels inboard is the easy part. Just drill the brakes and inner rim with the correct size drill bit to bring the wheels inward. The second major problem is ride hight. In the rear, and maybe it was just my warped frame but the rear rails didn't sit flat against the floor and needed to be bent back into shape, that dropped a lot of hight out of rear. The front with it's mulit part A-arms and knuckles was a bit trickier. I made new front springs to start with and flipped the knuckles arond left for right and vis-versa. No matter if you put them in correct or the other way the wheels camber was out at the top. I ended up cutting off the wheel mounting pins and repositoned new Evergreen rod so the wheels would be more striaght up and down. The other problem is the rim bead is so thick the rims stick out of the tires. So lacking a lathe at this time I been filing the bead thinner. I still have a long way to go, and it took a while to figure all this out. But I haven't abondoned it yet.

Update and Apology
CAL replied to George Bojaciuk's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It does, it takes a lot of work, and you have to becareful, know what to look for and how to remove it. You are right, though, it just doens't come off with a virus scan. It took me 4 or 5 days of working on it to remove all the little bits. It bypassed everything though, real time virus software, updated regularly, and a firewall and I never clicked on anything or installed anything that I am aware of. It just happened. The guy I work with, got the same, and to this day the HDD doesn't boot ... it doesn't even power up anymore, but he admittedly said he removed and did some things that he probably should't have in an attempt to remove it. And as far as I know there isn't anything out there yet to deal with. Some updated viruswares will catch it now, and some will detect it, but if you get it, it is more or less a manual removal - including going into the registry. -

Yeah, I got that virus too. It was particularly nasty. -
There is actaully a resurgence of vinyl records. I read somewhere there was 400 million vinyl records sold last year, and the industry is expect it to grow expotentially in the years to come. I don't have a turn table any more but I have a bunch of OMRs.
