CAL replied to modeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
sometimes this guy But this lil french fry really likes the hobby room That's his natrual state... pissed off. I also have a 150lb rottie, but beside being to big (everything stops), doesn't go in the hobby room to often. Not a one of them, knock on wood, has cause any plastic distruction to speak of. The lil french fry, Gizmo, did take a nap or two on my Starliner while I was building it, but other they pretty much leave stuff alone. -
maybe wider
-
some of the higher end limited run stuff may be worth something, but by and large they probable depreciate just like real cars
-
Yup... it's going to be the wide wide body....
-
Yeah, me too, that I why I kind of like the Rolex series better. At least one of the reason. It was pretty clear that the Porsche was avoiding the contact and the Ferrari drove into it.
-
What is that Competition Ferrari... ratbastards. It's doesn't look like they held onto their podium finish last race.
-
Maserati!? Looks like some kind of Ford abortion. Can't say for sure the only Maseratis I ever worked on were those stupid Chrysler/Maserati biturbos that blew up every 5000 miles, oh and almost everyone had the Rolex stolen out of the dashboard.
-
Absolutely ###### Lizards... I like the Ferraris, too. It's been a good classic Porsche/Ferrari fight the past couple years. Just you wait til the new Porsche comes out for next year. Lower CG, even more wide yet...
-
blah? blah! BLAH GT1 there is only two cars and only of them is competitive at a time
-
that is what I am begining to suspect, none of these 250 series cars came with fans, and were either dealer or customer installed after the fact.
-
Well it has a huge grill opening with a prancing horse and nothing else, no grill, no screen, nothing. Plus two brake ducts, and 6 vents. the front of the rad is pretty visable from any angle of the front... one maybe two more parts I am not sure. I have photos for about six 250 GTOs that you can see the rad from the front and the back in a different shot. Some of them I cannot see the fan from either front or rear. I do have access to a 1:1 275 GTB but I am not sure that is going really help. I did find a pic of the engine test running on a stand, FWIW, there is NO fan on the motor or rad.
-
It might be a little hard to see because is shrunk it down a bunch, but this is my best photo of a 250GTO engine where you can see the back side of the radiator. Clearly there is no direct drive fan or even an electric fan on the this side of the rad. If there is a fan it would have to be in front of the rad. The other thing I noticed about these ###### things is, there was only 36 built, I am not sure but I think most are surviving in some way or another. However, every one I have looked at has been different. They were raced competitively for 3 or more years, we all know how race cars get changed, and they are 44 years old, notwithstanding, they were all hand built to begin with. The point is no two are the same, experts say that there is only one maybe two that are pretty close to original as the factory built it.

Not no Ferrari motor I ever seen
-
Well that's a good question. I am build a 250 GTO and was asking the same question to myself. I have a couple different GTO kits and non of them with a fan. Now I have looked at a bunch of pics of 1:1 GTOs and most of them you cannot see if they do or not. Most of them (I have looked at about 15 of the 33/36 GTOs built and I have seen one weird looking three bladed fan, the others if there was a fan I suspect it was electric on the rad itself, as you can see the front of the engine and there is not direct drive fan. GMP, and there is another Trans kit for the Diecast Revell 1:18 GTO and I didn't see a fan on that motor either. So I don't know. I know the one fan I did see was an odd three blade fan. IIRC it that one was also a direct drive engine/pully mounted fan and it may have been on a California or a later model, and not on a series I or II. HTH

Look at Iwata's site, Badger may have a cleaning station too. I, too, use a powerfull solven for cleaning. Sometimes, besides lacquer thinning, acetone or Dope thinner, which I think works the best. I found, that my Iwata is a whole lot easier to clean than either of my Badger brushes. I also like to do a full take apart cleanning between sessions, especially on my Badgers.

Probably wont happen until Porsche buys VW, and it's coming sooner than later. My brother who works pretty far up in Bentely said the other day look out.... most of VW/Audi USA corp people are getting the axe because of how poorly they have performed - consider that VW is and has been in the top 5 biggest manufactures for a long time and America is the largest market for autos; however, for VW the States is one of their smallet markets. It doesn't add up, well because by and large VW has never been one to build cars for Americans. Nevertheless, Porsche has been pretty good about licensing. They keep a very close eye on it, but are reasonable about what they charge. So when that all happens and the dust settles it will change for VW/Audi too. But understand you have two forces that are at work here when it comes to licensing. 1. the Legal aspect. VW or anyone else doesn't want some 3rd part to do anything that may damage their image intentionally or invertantly - so you have the lawyers say protect yourself protect yourself protect yourself, which cost money. 2. The finacial aspect, where it's costing them to protect themself and the bean counters are saying you really need to be collecting royalties for what is basically our product. Agreed that some companies take this to a whole new level and are just not worth dealing with. Again though, the two toughest companies out there on licensing and keeping track of it.... Ferrari, who are just insane about it, but will work with you, and as already mentioned Porsche. Porsche WILL find you if you are using any of there stuff without asking, right down to the font, no mater how small or under the radar you may be. They will find you and you will get a Cease and Desist order.

Kind of a on going problem with VW/Audi I am surprised the R8 and R10 was released. They say their very greedy with licensing and want all the money. That is why there was never a A4 kit.
-
That is cool. I see this kit everytime I go to the LHS, but they want like $40 for it so I put it back. One of these days though.

The original VW Beetle...
