  1. Thanks guys. It's nice to know I'm getting it right! Jim, thanks for your comments. I did a bit of research prior to this build, so I did realize the bed sides were fibreglass. I haven't burnt through the paint for that very reason. It only looks like that in the pictures. I only tried to simulate dirt n grime, but I appreciate you giving it such a close inspection! The chain is from a jewellery suppliers. In the UK you can get fine silver chain from Cookson's in Hatton Garden, or by mail order online.
  2. Thanks for all the encouragement, chaps! I had a little go at Tamiya military kits when I was a schoolboy, but only made 4 or 5 as I couldn't afford to do many more. I didn't make another kit until a couple of years ago.(About 25 years after my last kit) I just got the urge to build again, but I don't like military stuff anymore. It doesn't look good on a shelf in my lounge. I don't want to sit and look at weaponry, only things that make me smile. The 1st car kit I made upon my return to modelling, was the AMT 32 Ford Phaeton. It wasn't very good. I'd do it differently if I made it today! I guess my steady hand came from making jewellery. I worked as a Goldsmith for about 10 years. I still make jewellery, but model cars are more fun!
  3. It looks like the real thing. Awesome skills. I wish I could see this with my own eyes.
  4. I was sweating bullets when I did the foil. Having to cut with a scalpel right next to polished paint took a bit of concentration. I did it in stages and had regular breaks. Thanks for the comments guys. i appreciate it.
  5. Wow.....!! You guys have got enormous skill. I'm amazed at the diversity and the incredible amount of work, that has obviously gone into creating such fine models. Some truly inspirational and aspirational creations in this thread. Here's my only long roof, 65 Lincoln Continental.
  6. You nailed it! She sits just right, the colour is spot-on and the caps and lakes are perfect. I think the paint is really excellent. Not just because it's very crisp, beautifully polished and the right shades, but also because the grain of the metalflake is a realistic scale. I got hold of the AMT version recently and I hope it looks even half as good as yours when I build it! I dunno how it stacks up against the Revell kit. It will, of course get similar treatment to yours. Nice photography, too.
  7. Cheers guys here's a better pic of the Singlefinger Speed Shop logo:
  8. I wanted to show you how low I got it to sit:
  9. This was a fantastic kit! The detail and fit are superb. I can thoroughly recommend it. The engine is good enough to display by itself. Paint is from rattle cans, but I had the colours custom mixed. I only recently found out that MCG do a PE set for this kit. It has detail master distributor and coil and I shod it with Pegasus wheels. The interior has a flocked floor and I adjusted the suspension so that the sump rides about 0.5 scale inches from the floor. thanks for looking
  10. This is an old Monogram kit from the early 80's and had all the plating in gold, which I stripped. Paint is rattle can from Halfords and is a BMW metallic black. The wheels came from the Boyd Coddington AMT 57 Chevy. They looked dodgy on a 1:25 car, but on this truck (1:24) they fit well. Engine is wired and plumbed and has a Detail Master aircleaner. Scallops are Fred Cady decals
  11. I had to add this shot because I love this angle:
  12. This was the 3rd car I built. It's one of my favourites. I learnt a great deal from making this kit. Mostly about paint. I used some MCG stuff and Tamiya paint on the body. (After this I stopped using Tamiya paint because of the cost) I've got another one of these waiting to be built. I'll go the other way and totally 'rat' it when i get around to building it. I love the character of a 32. A very cheeky little car...especially when it has the attitude that comes with a tasty Boss V8!!
  13. My 1st attempt at weathering. I used a selection of acrylics and artists' pastels. I made the decals using decal paper and added a little bit of chain to the tailgate.

    59 Impala

I confess...I adore 59 Chevy's. This was an epic BMF job! It's a Revell Lowrider kit. I added some engine details and some additional exterior stuff. I used a PE set from MCG Here's the interior: The engine: I used online source material to get some of the details, as there are very few of these in my country. There are all sorts of tiny details that only I know about on this model (I bet that rings true, eh guys?) Here's a shot that shows something that most people don't see: Thanks for looking
  15. This was actually the 2nd car I built. The 1st was ok, but I used it to get a feel for tools, paint and technique. I subsequently discovered that MCG do a PE set with El Camino badges etc. but when I made this I had no idea about PE or suppliers such as MCG. Anyway, I like flames on cars. I aslo like 'em slammed down in the weeds. The paint is all Tamiya rattle can. The flames are actually dark metallic blue, not black and the body has a 3 shade fade. This was also my first real attempt at using BMF (It was a very steep learninig curve, but I'm glad I discovered it)
  16. Thanks guys The paint is straight out of a rattle can. It's Halford's own brand (auto parts/spares retailer in the UK) The shade is Rover Tara Green. I used a polishing kit and Maguires resin polish to get it gleaming...
  17. I built this mainly box-stock, with only a few PE parts. I liked the colour of the car on the box art, so I sprayed it roughly the same colour The roll cage was a bit naughty. It took a fair bit of messing about to get it to behave. An enjoyable build, though.
  18. Some of you may have seen this on another forum, but I don't remember ever posting it here. It's the AMT 49 Merc. I did this a year or so ago. It was one of my first kits.
  19. Don't knock it mate! You did a lovely job on your build. Clean and precise. What more does it need?
  20. Go for it Dave. I don't think you'll regret it! Thanks for the cheery comments, guys.
  21. Ditto all the positive comments! You build 'em nice! Very clean and crisp. I dig it, big style!
  22. Totally sweet build, man! I built the RM lowrider version recently. I know how tough it is to foil these 59's. You did a great job on yours. It looks very real. I like the colour, too. Are these convertibles still available, or will I need to find one on eBay?
  23. I had a notion to add fuel lines and other bits and bobs, but then I decided to spend my time concentrating on getting the finish right. Plus, I was running out of time to get it done before half my house is demolished.. Anyway, here it is. The ubiquitous 49 Merc. I'd definately do another one of these. Superb kit. Went together like a dream. Revell should run an online competition for releases like these. Anyway, thanks for looking, I hope you like it.
  24. Sweeeeeeet! I love the colour! The restyling is crisp and subtle...you got it bang-on mate!
  25. Man, that's awesome! You have a lot of skill. Top-notch job on the rear fenders, roof, front end ..they look primo!
