Odds & Ends you'd Like to See
jangus replied to Calb56's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Kevin Lutz at Missing Link resin has had these for sale in the past. Hit him up and see if he plans to produce a batch sometime soon? I could go for a set or two myself. -
Well done build on a great "Gentleman's Hot Rod".
-
This signals a problem to me. I ordered at the end of November, and I'm still waiting. He's always been good, and the quality is top notch, but. Putting others ahead of waiting orders will not sit well.

FIA 289 Cobra
jangus replied to Rich Chernosky's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
For those of us "Cobra oblivious" persons, which kit did you start with? Beautiful work BTW. -
Yep, interior is giving me fits. It may involve a step back and a regroup on that. All else is progressing as time allows.

1/25 AMT 1964 Olds Cutlass F85 Convertible
jangus replied to Casey's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Bought three from a favorite online vendor. Will also purchase at least three of the 442 hardtops when they hit the warehouses. -
Wow. Terrific "every day" configuration.

1/24 Monogram 1987 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe
jangus replied to Cuba_13's topic in WIP: Model Cars
The "Lima" four is not the same as the Euro/Pinto motor. The Lima is a pretty stout motor, and not subject to early retirement at 100,000. They were offered in 2.0, 2.3, and 2.5 liter displacements. Properly prepped, stock cranks/blocks have been pushed to over 800bhp. -
Modelhaus prices on the Bay
jangus replied to 1st 700 Quad's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
I am surely not. Not now, not ever. -
Nice work. Yellow looks good on these. Not a common color on the 1:1 versions. I have a red 1:1 rotting in the back yard.

AMX's are one thing, Javelins are another. I love 'em both, but I'd like some Javelins on my shelf. My favorites are the '71-'74, and they're not easy to come by. Yes, the '69 is readily available, at a price. Perhaps it's time to learn the fine art of resin casting. Casey, thanks for the replies. How is the quality on the Reliable Resin and Jimmy Flintstone cars? Sport Suburban, thanks for the reply also.
-
Other than the Jimmy Flintstone '70 Trans Am Javelin kit, and the Reliable Resin '70 transkit, are there any Javelin or AMX kits, or even bodies, currently being cast?
-
YES!!!!!!!!

Interior and chassis progress. Finished trimming the seats out of the tub. Console was sacrificed, but will be replaced with the stick shift console from the Revell '72 Cutlass. Started grafting the seat backs from the '69 AMT kit to the Johan seat body/bases. Things were glued/unglued several times. Back seat was removed and trimmed up. The tub locating loops at the back were retained. Then the back seat was removed from the AMT tub, the side panels trimmed, and the Johan back seat was temporarily super glued in place. Once I get the dashboard position correctly set, the side panels will be cut out and properly dressed. Then the front seats need to be finished and trimmed out, and the base of the Revell console re profiled to fit the AMT tub. Glass and interior placed in the body shell and chassis plate added to check and correct, if needed (it was), the wheel placement in the wheel wells. No major corrections, just nips an tucks here and there to shift the interior and chassis plate into proper placement and alignment.

The Modelhaus hood needs some adjustments, and a small amount of material added to the bottom of the tongue. I may purchase the FabResin Works unit and see if it's any better. Pulled out an old MPB Detail Products hood and stole the underhood bracing from it to use on this project. . And finally, it was time to start chopping up the Johan interior tub in preparation for "correcting" some of it. .
-
The engine compartment work involved removing the radiator top support and inner fender lips and transplanting them into the Johan body. I did not swap over the cowl panel. Perhaps I should've, but I can always add the missing wiper arm detail. Removed the 442 grilles for the bumper. I'll find some suitable mesh material, or cut down the custom inserts from the Johan kit and put them in. Removed the molded in exhaust tips from the rear bumper. The fact that the bumpers get painted Sebring yellow makes the work less touchy. I used the worst looking set of bumper I had for this specifically because they get painted.
-
Yes, certain aspects of the kit are awful, but it's the only game in town for a '70 Cutlass/442. Once you replace everything except for the body/glass/bumpers it's acceptable, LOL.

When we met, my wife had a '78 Mach 1. When we moved to Nebraska, we left the car behind. 23 years later I was surfing CL in the area, and what do I find for sale? Yep, same car. Was in terrible shape, so we decided to leave well enough alone.
-
True enough, but I still have to cut the Johan tub up to get the seats and console. At least the upholstery pattern on the Johan tub is close enough.

Somewhere in this mess are all the parts to glue this sucker together. Decals will be Fred Cady, unless they go poorly at which point I'll get some Keith Marks. Body, glass and bumpers are Johan. Chassis, engine and possibly some of the interior are AMT '69 442. OAI air cleaner is '72 Revell Hurst Olds, hood is Modelhaus, with wheels from my stash (Scale Equipment LTD.) Still trying to decide if I'm going to go full "StevenGuthmiller" on the interior.
-
I had considered those, and they're likely the route I'll go. Was hoping for 14" units though. The ones the Modelhaus and Scale Equipment Ltd. made looked spot on for the project I've got planned.

With Modelhaus being out of the game, does any other vendor supply correct Oldsmobile SSII wheels, without the trim ring? Sourcing parts for a Rallye 350.
