Vancouver BC Model Car Show June 15/24
Claude Thibodeau replied to Phildaupho's topic in Contests and Shows
Hi Phil! Thanks for the tip on Mr. Chevalier. I would like to send him pics of my numerous "utes" mash-ups built over the years. Some might make him smile, who knows? CT -

Hi Phil! Thanks for the pix. You are right: much quality here! The great outdoors vehicles are impressive, and I even saw what appears to be a 77 Ford Ranchero. I suppose it's resin, since I don't remember ever seing this kit? CT -

Hi! Had a few copies of the Foose F100 leftover parts, so why not try to create something different? Take two cabs, join them at the rear door cut line, stretch the roof and transform the hood of the rear unit into a trunk lid, with a covered bed to carry stuff in style. Throw in a custom take on the grille and headlights + tail lights. The frame was lenghtened to fit the new wheelbase, and the second bench seat was used for the rear unit. The tailgate and rear box were scratchbuilt, as are the mirrors, runninboard, distributor, rear tie rods, disc brakes and trailer hitch. Tamya's bright orange was covered with clear red and clear pearl + Mr. Hobby Top coat clear, fully polished. Molotow's and Revell spray chrome accents. My local model club has a theme at this coming fall show that requires "odd creations". Might qualify... Hours of fun with styrene! CT

Why is my paint job dusty?
Claude Thibodeau replied to Milo's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Hi! The Wall Mart generic lacquer thinner is VERY hot, meaning it might attack the styrene your model is made of. Further, it can de-bond the primer (and paint) molecules so that they refuse to form a film, as they would with model thinner (such as Tamya's). To be certain, try your same routine and products with Tamya's lacquer thinner. I rencently ruined a test panel by thinning model acrylic paint (a British brand) with Tamya's ACRYLIC thinner. The hobby store paint dept guy told me Tamya's acrylic thinner contained alcool, which was too strong for this paint. I tested it with pure water, and it airbrushed flawlesly. Thinner matters! Good luck CT -
