Wow, John. Thank you very much. I appreciate the kind words.

Thats sounds like thats probably what happened. There is so little info about these iroc daytona chargers . At least that I have been able to find. It really made into a nice little race car.
-
Interesting, I wonder if they ran the 360 v8 jeep motor that chrysler had aquired when they took over jeep. The engine that came with those cars was a 2.2 liter 4 banger. But i think there was a v6 option for it. I went to wikipedia just to get some background on the real charger daytona car in 1991.

Excellent work as usual. What engine did they use in those babies? Did Earnhardt compete in one of those?

Here is that link again. the wip is 7 pages so it might take a while for all the pictures to build but the fender part should be close to the front. http://www.shorttrackmodels.com/index.php?topic=1701.0

Greg, yes I added strips to the bottom of the openings all around and used tamiya white putty above the strips to try to duplicate what Rossi did on the real car to give clearance for the wide racing tires. If you look at the wip it might help. I think i posted the wip link somewhere in this thread.

The "stiffener bar" -- finally a reference to where that bar attaches
MarkJ replied to Goodwrench3's topic in WIP: NASCAR
I noticed that myself. Very vague indeed. I probably didnt do mine right, back when I did one of those models. Thanks for posting that. -
I did not know Hendrick had built it. No wonder it was so fast. That was Brad's payback car to Carl Edwards for taking him out at Atlanta. I think Brad got the best of that deal. I believe that was also the beginning of the dreaded tandem racing that Nascar had to eventually outlaw. It was kinda bogus watching pairs of cars racing around the track.
-
Is that Brad's first cup win car? Thats a beauty from what I remember. One of those iconic cars connected to a lot of historical nascar stuff.

Looks great, Dustin. Nice detailing as always.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the feedback.

This is a must read when doing a black widow race car. Also reminds you not to put too big a tire on your model that will make it not look just right.

To tell you the truth , Mike. I dont remember. I think I probably just took a small brush and a bottle of guard red acrylic and went around the opeming. i believe there is a story about why that car was red there and I think it had something to do with maybe Curtis turner drove the car as #26 in usac and the whole car was red when he drove it but when they repainted it it only stayed red around the window openings.
-
He could lead but he had to slingshot and get the rpm's up to 10,000 to do it is what I read. So to win it would have been a coming to the finish line slingshot. We will never know though.

Francis, Yes that little black motor is a 340 destroked to a 305. Chrysler didn't make one back then. I don't think they ever did for that matter. Keith Black the drag racing motor builder built those 340's to be used in the trans am series in cudas and challengers. I made mine from a 440 taken from a 71 amt charger kit. I shortened it moved the heads more upright to make it less wide and fixed the valve covers to look like 340 valve covers. Added an intake from my parts box that looks some what like the intake on the picture I found of the real motor from above. I was thinking it would be a bathtub manifold but it was not. Thanks for your interest in the build.

Tony, Another build that has stood the test of time. Looks as Awesome as the day it was built. Another fine build from your collection.

I forgot to post some real car pictures.

Just finished over the weekend. Took 215 hours to build including the decals which took 56 hours of that time. This is supposed to represent the last winged warrior that competed in Nascar. The 1971 Daytona 500 was the race. Mario Rossi prepared the car and this was the only race it ever appeared in. Bill France changed the rules on these cars for 1971, saying that if you wanted to run one you had to run a 305 cubic inch engine with one 4 barrel carb. Rossi took him up on it and almost won the race. He used a Keith Black prepared 340 cuda engine that had been prepared for trans am racing. It was destroked to 305 cubic inches. This stock block engine ran at over 9000 r.p.m.'s all day long and survived. If Brooks had'nt got caught up in a wreck with Pete Hamilton, he could have possibly won the race. They were fighting for the lead on laps 97 and 98 when they tangled. Brooks ended up seventh. If you want to see how it came together click on the link below. http://www.shorttrackmodels.com/index.php?topic=1701.0

Looks Awesome , Tim. Super clean and beautiful paint and decals. I saw this car run at Texas World Speedway back in 1972 . Brooks wasnt driving it then but it was keeping up with the front runners. When it won n 1973 with Brooks I thought it was really cool. The brothers who owned this car weren't the typical Nascar team. The brothers were actually Airline Pilots for Eastern Airlines. One of them came up with an intake manifold that gave them a pretty good advantage with the restrictor plate. Even though it was deemed legal for the race Bill France outlawed it later. The reason Mickey is on the hood is because France before the race said that the Crawford brothers had a Mickey Mouse team. Needless to say he wasn't too happy when they won the race.

Wow, Randy. what a beautiful build. That color really pops and the cleanliness of build is off the charts. Just an Excellent build.
-
Ed, you could probably make a couple of those uprights from the sprue in the kit. They don't have to look just like the real part just do the same job they do. Just play with it a little and finish that baby.. And by the way, another excellent build you have there Tony. I think i have that kit but it has a yellow car with number 68 on it. I guess its the same?
-
From what I can see of it , it looks like a very nice build. You can also make a windshield from clear plastic sheet.
-
Wow, Tony. What an awesome build . How did you keep it so perfect for all these years? Looks like you just finished it. Again, Excellent build.
-
Wow, Dustin. You did awesomely on this one as usual, but the detail on this is really quite impressive, for what i believe is a snap kit. Paint and decal work are also over the top. Again, excellent build.

That looks great Gerald. What brand of gold did you use?
