1960 Edsel Conversion BMF'ed update 08-11-06

Beautiful restoration Mike. THIS is a great thread ! -
I see them as a potential for an aftermarket home run. Imagine how a set of billet forks would look? Or REAL laced rims? Photo-etched V-twin cooling fin barrels? Chain? Resin tanks? The possibilities are endless.... And as for the bike, the pictures are a little dark and it makes it hard to see details on a dark bike. Maybe thats why feedback doens't seem strong. But the bike looks nice, from what I see. 8) BTW: Tom, I love your avatar!

Another Revell chopper - rake and extended springer
FASTBACK340 replied to gowjobs's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Actually it was a Ron Covell tank! He happens to be one of the best known metal fabricators alive. I guess everyone has a bad day..... And as for the model's tank, I think maybe slide it forward a bit. Too much frame showing between the yoke & edge of tank. Otherwise your bike looks great. I just bought both of these kits and I can't wait to build one. Imagine if the aftermarket pops out a few resin & metal pieces for these? Wow...... -

I know...I know... Just poking a little fun at where I live down here in da city. 8) -
Well, I'm not going totally overkill.... But I want something that stands out. Kinda like Erica here....

Hmmm.... NOBODY has an opinion? Good OR BAD? :?

Here's a simple project thats starting to become a big project, but I like the way it's evolving. I scratch-built the wider forks & triple trees from plastic & aluminum to accomodate the fat tire look. I widened the frame & braced it in preparation for.... <heh-heh....>an engine that's a little "different" from what you'd expect. Don't mind the huge rubber band holding it together. I'll removed it before I paint it..... The current triple trees are just templates. The actual ones will be aluminum. The handle bars are also roughed-in. In the past I've done Weber-carbed slant sixes, a 413 long ram in a Deuce, a Hemi powered motorcycle, and a straight six Jaguar in a T bucket. And I promise THIS will be just as ....weird. Here's a link to my inspiration for this build. http://www.exilecycles.com/index.php?section=25 Again, thanks for looking and any/all opinions welcome. Good, bad, or indifferent.

Currently I'm without a dedicated work area. My wife & I live in a 1 bedroom Co-Op (apartment...) while I'm selling a 3 bedroom house, that included my hobby room. Hopefully I'll have "my room" back in a year or so when we buy another house. But for now I must pick small projects to fit my cramped enviroment. This is a simple project where I tried to replicate my actual `68 Barracuda. A Johnny Lightning was stripped and painted with Model Car World LL1 turquoise. I bare metaled the trim & bumpers, and swapped in a 6 pack engine from a Challenger T/A. I'm still looking for a set of dog dish hub caps. My car has more blue in it, but it's close enuff! My car is a 360 with a 6 pack & 4 spd. I should have scratch-built a bench seat like my car, but again, I can only do small projects. I have to pack everything up when I finish a session, and you all know how much THAT sucks.... Thanks for looking!

I have one of those stashed somewhere..... Gotta build it someday. Your's looks great! Cragars are a natural for the van. BTW: Not trying to nit pic, but it's an A-100 van.

Great stuff Doug! Me & VW's go way back. One of my old toys.... Wife's new toy....
-
I just noticed something else on your build: Your axle & shifter boots. Are those wiring insulators from a harness connector on a car? Nissan uses little boots like that to insulate the terminals in a multi-plug connector. I've often thought how much they look like scale CV boots.....
-
Great job Doug! As a former air-cooled VW junkie your model certainly pressed a few buttons with me! Your fabricating skills are killer. The cage...shocks...various brackets. Awesome build. But what engine are you using? Is that the twin cam from the Revell Acura kit?

Real nice build Joe. Did you shoot the future over the decals? It has an unreal finish in the pictures! -

And I'm going to drive 3 1/2 hours next week to party with this guy at the CPMCC picnic..... Just kidding Dan. My computer is in desperate need of a re-vamp. The problem is definitely on my end. -

FASTBACK340 replied to KT EASTMAN's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'd love to see Gregg move stateside, but NY? He lived in HAWAII and you want to see him come to NY? That's kinda like trading in your Harley for a mountain bike.... -
How old are you??
FASTBACK340 replied to KT EASTMAN's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I had a good smart *ss remark .... but them I realized something: I'm a gray-haired old fart like Lyle. -

Tamiya, Revell anyone?
FASTBACK340 replied to Tuffy's Garage's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I might be in the minority here, but I'd rather pay $35 (or more...) for a NICE model kit than wasting my time trying to polish a, well... you know what. I think it's a shame when a less than well developed kit rots on the shelves because it's a bad kit, and the translation to the manufacturer is no market. Too bad... really too bad. Maybe Trumpeter can redeem themselves with a really accurate kit of a Pontiac Aztek next.... -
