FASTBACK340 replied to Steve H.'s topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I agree....1/18 is sometimes just right for 1/25! -
I just got "THE" holy grail.....
FASTBACK340 replied to FASTBACK340's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks Rick. My wife is definitely a great gal. While she doesn't necessarily understand the need for 4 guitars or 500 HP in my `Cuda, she does know it makes me happy. And I do my best to make her happy! As for the model, I'll probably build the re-issue and save the original in my collection. I own a real `68 Barracuda 340-S and collect ANYTHING Barracuda related as far as the A Body versions are concerned. Not that there's anything wrong with the E body `Cuda's & Challengers, but they've become the belly-button car amongst the Mopar crowd. I prefer the originals. I have Hot Wheels...Johnny Lightnings.... Models....Promo's...Dealer Posters.... Brochures.... even a 1968 Chrysler Trouble Shooting Contest trophy with a `68 Barracuda on it. Everything & anything. PLUS the Hemi under Glass is my favorite Barracuda. Shoot...I have pictures on me sitting in the actual car out in Las Vegas! Ergo my fetish.... BTW: If all else goes sour in my life and I really need money, God forbid, I know I won't loose a dime on it. But that's NOT why I have it. I bought, not invested in, it. Peace my brothers.... -
Completed Chrysler 300C

Great paint & detail work! The wheels and body mods are dead on... You definitely nailed the "Bling" look without going "Bling-Thing", if ya know what I mean  -

Thanks Bill! Amy is W-A-Y cool about my hobbies. It doesn't matter if it's a new guitar, vintage models, or Hot Rod parts, she's with me. But then again, we just discussed buying her a new `06 VW Rabbit the end of the summer to replace her knock-around car. I think that might have contributed to her good mood.... I'm a lucky guy and I acknowledge my wife every chance I get.... 8) -

A few weeks ago I scored an unbuilt `68 Hurst Hemi under Glass and was quiet happy about it. But this morning something happened..... I was off today so I had the luxury of a cup of coffee in front of the computer. I have several searches I punch in to hunt for more ###### I don't really need. This morning I searched Hemi under Glass. I now have an ORIGINAL Hemi under Glass! I know this is a rather common kit in re-issue form, but.....it's the original AMT kit! Yeah, it cost STOOO-PID money....but did I mention it's an original? And my wife (God bless her....) gave me the thumbs-up when I spotted it this morning. She said "They ain't gettin cheaper or more availiable..." No. She don't have any sister's. -
Overhaulin Bel-Air on EBAY

Another Steve I agree with! Chip & Co. can steal (any one of...) my cars and do as he pleases with it. I don't care if it's the `04 GTI or the `68 Barracuda, or either one of the ######-box beater Nissans we own. And anyone whom even acknowledges "Pimp my ride" exisits ...... -

Your right Steve, Foose was involved with the Titus show, which was one of the funnier sit-coms to never make it on TV... When ever they showed a shot of the shop or living room on Titus there were Foose drawings on the walls. -

Umm, Jairus.... the builders on MONSTER GARAGE get toolboxes. The builders on OVERHAULIN get a warm & fuzzy feeling  Although overpriced, that `56 is still a sweet ride. And what isn't overpriced these days. How about a `70 `Cuda rag top  -
OPINIONS WANTED --- SCALLOPS OR NO SCALLOPS ?--UPDATED--
FASTBACK340 replied to PatRedmond's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I vote scallops, but maybe something in silver? -
Who....ME?!? On the edge? PSSST...wanna copy?
-
I stand corrected: I got a copy for $5 today.....
-
Did you notice that the diner lights (spark plugs....) were "firing" in a sequence? Yeah... it's LOADED with goodies. Too bad I told a few people at work how cool the movie was. When the usual Monday morning visit from our local DVD bootlegger came along, I couldn't get a copy as everyone bought whatever she had!
-
And what did YOU think of it? I liked it....
-
There's a TON of accurate details in this movie.... I've read a few interviews where ALL the guys at PIXAR are car guys. And it shows in the finished product. GO SEE IT!
-
Me & the Wife went to see CARS last night. I must say, it was well done as far as "car" details are concerned in a childrens movie (watch as bits of rubber ball-up in the corners during on-track racing scenes....and the way the Hudson drifts in the dirt racing scene). The plot naturally has an uplifting message for the audience, but man...it's loaded with little "nuggets" through-out the film. And like him or hate him, Larry the Cable Guy is PERFECT for his role as `Mater. Listen closely to his comments. And make SURE you stick around until the end for the credits.

Kudos to Gregg and Jairus!
FASTBACK340 replied to MrObsessive's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'd like to acknowledge the personal mention Gregg made in this months editorial section. It was great seeing you again after all these years. My wife was sorry she missed the show this year as she wanted to meet you ( I think you had a kiss coming your way for publishing a picture of a VW I had built for her....) I wish you continued good health and hope to see you at all the shows! -
I have a still-born project using that shade of purple w/ Mopar Panther Pink ..... code FM3. That color pop's nicely next to the purple.
-
Go with the original body Jah.. That's gonna be incredible when done. What do you have in mind for paint?
-
I wouldn't call it "grinding". It's more like aggressive buffing  I've used that stripper in the past: too toxic for my tastes. I can strip the entire body with a wire wheel in about 15 minutes. It'll take that long (maybe longer....) for the aircraft strip to do it. Plus I don't have to deal with chemicals or the glop.
-
Ya gotta give us a little longer than 79 seconds.... Welcome aboard Doug. I'm a new guy too, but it does look like a nice place.
-
I'm looking forward to finishing this one more than the bigger one. A lot less wet sanding involved..... I'll post as I go along.

I'm refinishing a Highway 61 1/18th. `68 Barracuda. I started with the White version since it had my car's steel wheels & dog dish hub caps. Being I had to strip a metal body I used a bench grinder/wire wheel in my shop and carefully removed the original paint with the wire wheel. All the chrome trim are seperate piece's and emblems are photo-etched, so re-installing them should be a breeze. I also located a 1/18th. 340-6bbl. like I have in my car. I primed it with DupliColor white, hit it with about 5 thin coats of Model Car World #2654 bright turquoise metallic, then several coats of DupliColor clear. I polished it out and decided another trip to the wire wheel is necessary.... I have a run in the r/r quarter, a BAD splotch on the roof, and I chipped the hood/cowl like a hack. Here's where I'm at so far: The original White paint w/ side stripe. After visit #1 to the wire wheel. After paint job #1. The factory color is LL1. My car has a Black bench seat interior w/ a 4 spd. Hopefully I'll have this one done soon.
