Value Question
FASTBACK340 replied to FASTBACK340's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have my `68 Barracuda 340-S insured through Hagerty and that's all they required from me too. It was so simple, I really should double-check to make sure I didn't miss anything.... As for the models, I've been monitoring auction sites and I haven't seen a HUG in years, and I NEVER see the clear red Polalr Lights Ghost Cuda (sorry, thought it was the Mazmanian car).I know I paid more than what was listed for the Hemi under Glass, the Ghost Cuda I scored for $7.00 -
Hi guys.... I'm cataloging some stuff and have been thinking of adding some new additions to my home owners insurance. I was wondering if I can get a ball-park estimate on 2 kits in particular: The original AMT Hurst Hemi under Glass and the Polar Lights clear red Mazmania Barracuda. Both kits are mint & complete. Thanks in advance!

Fisher Body Craftsman Guild Models
FASTBACK340 replied to FASTBACK340's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Paul was there showing his models and through talking with him, when he built those models ha was living about 6 blocks from where I now live in Bayside. Weird..... During our talk he mentioned that in one of the photographs he was only 13 building a wooden model. We joked about 13 yr. olds today not even being able to repair a flat tire on their bicycles... never mind creating something from a block of wood! We had a harmless laugh at the current crop of computer-spoiled kids whom can do it on CAD-CAM before being able to handle a knife and carve. Hope I'm wrong, but it looks like hands-on craftsman skills will go the way of home delivered milk. A memory.... -
Unfortunately, I didn't get details of that one. But she was a beauty.....

And here's the cars..... And this one is awaiting to be restored.... -
Tony Mozolla, former MASSCAR prez, was om hand today at the LIARS show with another gentleman displaying some original wooden models from the early 60's GM Craftsman Guild competiton models. Some were restored, some original. All were amazing.... Carved from laminated wood. And some guys complain about mold lines! Here's the promotional info Here's restoration photos of one of the cars

This one was beyond slick.... And we finish this post with a Barracuda..... Good show guys.... me & my Wife had a nice time re-connecting with old friends we haven't seen in a while. Hopefully I'll be back at the workbench real soon and I'll be more active again. Hope you guys enjoy!

I had a good day selling off some stuff at the LIARS show this morning. Turn out was decent, and the crowd was looking to buy. I set up 5 cases of old kits and went home with 6 unsold kits. Sweeeet! In no particular order, here's a few models that caught my eye..... This was an amazing diorama To be continued.....

The REAL original "pony car"...
FASTBACK340 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
To most of you guys I'm a stranger, but I'm s-l-o-w-l-y getting back into the hobby....after a LONG hiatus. I'll offer my un-solicited opinion on this topic: The term "Pony Car" was coined as a response to the success of the Mustang after GM joined the party with the Camaro. This way all cars built to copy the successful Mustang was called a "Pony Car", in deference to the Mustang origins. Like mentioned earlier, if the initial car that defined the category was indeed the Barracuda, the term may have very well been referred to as Fish... or for that matter, Bird cars, if it was the Firebird. For that matter, if the Cobra was the car, it could have very well been Snake cars also. It all sounds silly in retrospect, but think about it..... And as for MY vote on the appearance of the Barracuda's, well.... I'm biased. Here's my `68 340-S Fastback with a few modifications.... -
False alarm.... I decided on wrenching on my full-sized project instead. Once she's done I'll do a 1:25 replica... Sorry I missed the show, I bet it was great.

Hi guys... I've been recieving e-mails from long-lost modeling buddies about meeting at NNL East. I know there's a new (and larger I hope...) location. Does anyone have directions? I'd hate to MapQuest directions and drive in circles, which MapQuest does at times.... Help out a long-lost modeling buddy!

CPMCC meeting & picnic
FASTBACK340 replied to Lyle Willits's topic in Model Club News and Announcements
My God... I do look like I want a piece of someone! At least my Wife looks more cheerful.... It was good to see everyone. It's unfortunate I don't have the time or place to build at the moment, but Amy & me are house-hunting next summer. THEN I'll be back full-time to annoy the daylights out of every one of you guys.... BTW: You missed it Lyle: Peterson gave me a big sloppy kiss on the (facial...) cheek as he was leaving. -
Thanks for the reply...too bad I'll be away that weekend. Oh well.

No one knows!?!?!?

Anyone have a date for the LIARS Show out here on Long Island? As you've seen, I haven't been "in the loop...: for a while now due to more pressing matters. If I'm around I'd like to go. Build on....

Who would you like to meet?
FASTBACK340 replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I not only met Augie, but had a 1-on-1 lesson on his lathe at Toledo back in 2003! And like Billy, I have that little chunk `o brass stashed away. He would explain everything in detail. Augie was a class act. Dale King would be another name from a few years back, along with Harry Stewart whom built some mind-boggling stuff. I remember his Comet with the electric motor INSIDE the model motor that ran and had fully operational throttle linkage from the pedal to the 4 Weber carbs. Incredible..... I've already had the pleasure of meeting some fabulous people so far, including many names mentioned already, including Jungle Pam. Matter of fact, I've even met Peterson. -
Maybe you can try and get the rear portion of the tracks to follow the contour of the wheel opening a bit so it doesn't look like it's high-centered on the tracks. Otherwise that's an idea I've never seen before on a buggy. Great idea! Good luck with it. BTW: What scale & version Tamiya tank was that kit?
