  1. And I saw this considerably less powerful version at a local show this summer. It had a 9" rear and a tubular sub-frame. It was "done right". The owner joked about it being a budget Cobra.
  2. I've been meaning to post these pictures. I saw this car at the Mopars at E-town show last August. Imagine having that Torqueflite explode at your feet?
  3. That's coming along nicely. A former co-worker had an identical car. Nice color combo!
  4. <sigh….> It's like being in high school again…..
  5. Those "alternate crops" can be very profitable…..
  6. Oh boy thats going to be a fun ride! Thanks for the update.
  7. I'm guessing with the new Barracuda they didn't want any "choices" in house. This is sharp looking…. clearly the most handsome progression of A body drop-tops. Bang: dead. Too bad….
  8. Based off a `67 Dart convertible. All sheet metal is `70, which never came as a drop top. Nice job, no? I ran across this on MoParts.Com
  9. I wouldn't worry so much about the SUV's and pick-up's. I'm more concerned with the brain dead and incompetency, but that's another thread…. I'd love to see the Elio come to market & succeed. I'd definitely buy one. Like I said, I commute a good distance without any viable alternate routes. If one road is jammed, the others are too…. So why should I drive a 5 seat vehicle when I can scoot around in this runabout. As long as it can get out of it's own way, it could be fun besides economical.
  10. Before we got hit head-on my wife's GTI was 8 yrs. old and had 54K miles on it with no parking lot damage. And I live in Queens, N.Y. The success ? As stated, park away from the crowd and walk. And find end spots as mentioned. Park on corner spots to minimize bumper damage from people who park by feel…. NEVER valet park. NEVER! I tip them to stay away from my stuff….. Keep it clean and neat. If it looks like BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH, people will oblige and treat it accordingly.
  11. You see us comin' And you all together run for cover We're taking over this town
  12. It's more relevant substituting Ginger Baker for Clapton…. I actually saw Jack Bruce perform this past spring in Manhattan.
  13. I cut my teeth on air-cooled VW's back in the 80's. As cool as they are, there's something to said for A/C, ABS, 80+ MPG, and heat while standing still in traffic. I'd love to roll along in a fender-less street rod style `55 Oval with a canvas roof and a 2180CC in it, but I commute. Sometime I need A/C or heat while parked in a tie-up. Almost 30 miles each way without too many alternate routes that aren't standing still too.
  14. With the car show / cruise season winding down plans call for removing the engine & transmission from the Barracuda before it gets cold out and get ready for some up-grades and repairs over the upcoming winter months. Once I get the car dis-assembled and parked for the winter I'm also looking into installing a wood burning barrel stove in the garage for heat. If anyone has any experience with these units, please get in touch with me. Also time to go clean out the model room. It's almost time to get back into building and start spending more time here.
  15. I always liked the funky street-rod graphics in yellow on the box art. Cool build choice!
  16. Those things were E V E R Y W H E R E growing up in the NYC area. I honestly don't know if I'd want one or not…...
  17. BTW: The placement of the wheels of a three wheeler makes a difference. The twin front wheel positioning of the Messerschmidt, Isetta, Elio, Morgan, T-Rex and Can-Am motor cycles makes for stable conering. The Reliant and other Euro-Asian 3-wheelers are far from "stable' as often demonstrated on Top Gear with the single front wheel.
  18. I agree. I think the $6,800 retail price is a bit ambitious to say the least, it would still be a good $10K alternate to a used car. My 2013 Honda Fit Sport was $18K….. granted it carries 5 and is more mainstream, but for commuting the Elio makes sense. The Honda gets 33 MPG w/o the A/C going. 29-30 w/ the A/C cranking in traffic. Better than the 19 I was getting with my Maxima, but almost quadruple with the Elio IS tempting. For what I put down on the Honda I could have bought the Elio and have been saving money by now, that I could blow on go-fast stuff for the Barracuda. My how diametrically opposed my household is!
  19. I too have been following the Elio since it's initial exposure on Jalopnik. I'm on their mailing list too. And yes, I'm considering one too. I drive just under 60 miles a day round trip. The fuel savings would pay for the car. It requires a motorcycle license (as do all 3 wheelers) and Elio has been lobbying for allowing easier registration and licensing. I'll take mine in Black with tinted windows…..
  20. I have 2 full-detail VW projects in the planning stages and your products would make my builds more realistic for sure. November is just fine… I'll just plan a little more.
  21. WOAH! That's some seriously nice work. Imagine a Type I engine kit like that!
  22. Let me give this a poke….. What's up with the VW engine kits/pieces discussed a while ago? Is this hopefully happening? Build season is rapidly approaching for me.
  23. Norm is making the narrow bug-eyed variant. Should be getting it shortly…. Looking forward to building my old car
