Revell/Model King 1/25 '50 Austin Gasser
Rudy replied to S. Svendsen's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Looking forward to the release of this kit!!!! Awesome work on both kits, and the included decal sheet is worth the purchase price by itself, I agree. I always get excited when I see gasser kits! Rudy -
Very neat idea for a diorama!!!!!!!!!!! I've always wanted to make one of these with a shell of a car! Rudy

Just flat-out amazing cranky!!!!!!!!!!! How long did it take you to get good at the weathering? I need to try some of this, I love "rattier" looking trucks and cars...... Awesome weathering, look so realistic with the decals and roof rack!!!!!! Awesome!!! Rudy

Very cool idea!!!!!!! I love it! I will also be watching this build. I like anything out of the ordinary, especially trucks, vans too. Just need to build some now for myself..... I do have a jimmy flintstone resin chopped 65 dodge van, for the little red wagon kit as a donor, but the little red wagon kit is too nice not to build on its own, so I will have to buy another...... Here are a few pics of my 29 ford roadster pickup, this is the 3-N-1 "goodguys Kit. I really like this kit because it comes with a 4 cylinder for a change, and 2 different cab choices, open "roadter pickup you can use with or withour removeable top, and a "closed cab" pickup cab is also included. It also includes a "track-T" nose. I chose to build mine as a roadster pickup, fenderless unlike any of the box art vehicles, as that is how I like my 1:1 hot rods. I started by cutting out the rear spring crossmember, and relocating it a bit higher on the frame to lower the stance. I also notched the front frame rails in front of the front spring crossmember, and putting the front axle there to get it to sit a bit lower in the front. I split the front 'bones but they are just kinda hanging there, unmouted at this point. I pretty heavily chanelled the bed and cab of the pickup. I shortened the bed quite a bit also. I dont know how I ever lived without a Dremel in the past!!!!!! Please excuse the quality of my pictures, as I am really having trouble getting them to be very clear, and in-focus. The camera is a digital Kodak "easyshare M753" if anyone has some tips for me. When using the flash, I get too much glare from chrome parts and white paper used for background, but without it the pics are too dark as the light in my work area sucks. Both have focus issues. Any tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!!!!!!!! Rudy

Sites for planes, military sites?
Rudy replied to Rudy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks guys, I will check these out!!!!!!!!!!! Rudy -
I love it!!!!!!! Maybe I missed it, where did that awesome engine come from?!!! The detail work is amazing I love that you left it unchopped, just chanelled it! Rudy
-
Awesome!!!!!!! Had thought about taking this one on after a recent article in Hot Rod Deluxe this past month, which is possibly your recent motivation for this!!! This will be one to watch folks!! The original engine from the car was recently discovered by a guy who lives not far from me. He has taken on the recreation of the 1:1. It set a record here in detroit at the 1959 nhra u.s Nationals....... I will be watching this one!! Rudy

No, I'm not switching over to the dark side, just wondering what sites are out there for military modeling. I want to build a B-17 Flying fortress, and was looking to see what is out there....... I actually want to build a whole squadron of them to hang in an extra bedroom.... My grandafther flew in the 8th air force in a B-17 and B-24's...... Just been thinking about building a plane to try out my skills at airbrushing some camo and such. Would like to also build a B-29, and an A-10. Just didnt have much luck with the search engines for military modeling sites of the right kind. Still got lots of car in the works, in fact, i'm gonna go work on a couple hot rods now! Thanks, Rudy

Abe, Just an idea, you could build a "suicide perch" for the front spring and suspension. That is how the 30-31 car you are using for inspiration was done. I have also seen this car in person at autorama, its pretty darn cool! Look at my post of the 26 T sedan to get an idea of how I did it. I did it that way because it was the only way to get it low enough for my liking..................... Keep up the good work!!!! Rudy

Thank you for taking the time to do this. I know it is very time consuming..... I like the tip about the drip rails..... Nice work. Rudy

A few more......... The ones of the frame dont seem to be working, let me try again...... This is my first scratch-built frame (well mostly), with a suicide-perch for the front axle to get it down in the weeds.......

I am in need of motivation. Here are some Olllllllllddddd pics of my 26 Ford Model T sedan/Sedan delivery. (still undecided). I like my hot rods fenderless, so I pitched the supplied frame and fender setup (98% of it) and made my own. I am thinking about painting this one a lime-gold color with some heavy flake, maybe like a 60's show rod?> I also have a surf board to throw on top. The wheels, and engine came from my parts box. The banjo rear is also a parts box special, looks like it came from the 29 for pickup kit. It is getting cold and nasty here in the great white north, so it is model building time again!!! Rudy Some home made lakes pipes from a parts tree! A fuel cell for in the rear, possible taillight, maybe a nerf-bar?

Amazing quality work!!!! I am impressed sir!!! I really like the brass frame. WOW. Keep up the good work! Rudy

I love it!!!! I have the same kit in the works...... What were your weathering(rust) methods? It looks life-like!!!! Rudy

Hertsi- That is an awesome project. What kit is that? Jeff, I love the ford 4x4 van 2nd from the bottom in your pictures!!!! I am in a wheelchair and have been wanting to build a couple different vans, and scratchbuild some wheelchair lifts for them! Rudy

Hmm it seems you are correct. It was at henry ford for the "rockstars, cars, and guitars" display kinda recently. Supposedly 2 are known to exist, the real one, and a clone used in some videos and a tv show or two. Maybe that was the one that was stolen..... I swear I heard that in the 90's..... oh well. That is definitely the coolest album cover ever, and this is gonna be a bada$$ model! Rudy

EYes peeled for this one~~~ Erik- That is just a replica at Henry Ford, the original was stolen and never recovered! Rudy

Looks awesome!!! The grille is kind of similar to what I was picturing in my head, vertical bars, similar to a 52 buick or other cars of the era....... I am picturing a Tri-power 312 from a thunderbird, or a 430 M.E.L. engine. with multiple carbs.... Rudy -

I dig it! I got that same coca cola kit over the winter from a guy, and have been contemplating what to do with it........... Wuld be cool to see an aerial picture to see where all the cutting was done, but it looks like you are past that point. Rudy -
Nice! I also enjoy the challenge of trying to make an old turd of a model look good again, or redoing an older effort from when my skills were'nt so great. (the ones I didnt melt, blow up, or shoot with my BB gun LOL) I love the color!!! Rudy

This is good to know. I have been looking for a cheapo used one at garge sales, but I just dont think anybody ever gets rid of one, unless it is broken. Good to know I can get one at walmart. BUt I really wanted 2, one for models, and one for making JERKY!!!! I love Jerky!!!!! DO you think it is ok to use one for both? I doubt it....... Prob make your jerky taste like Testors!!! Rudy
