  1. I think these are a bit out of my range right now..but...that could change after my current build is done.
  2. Working on the fuel system..cut off all the bolts..replaced with real ones..used styrene sheet for the patches and the plate that was missing. Now on to paint The real one I'm trying for.
  3. Awesome stuff.. I've been eyeballing this one...
  4. I'm trying..lots of fiddly bits for sure. Now have to work on fuel system, cooling ,system, exhaust system. Having 600 photos of the real car and other builds really helps.
  5. Ignition system done..not happy with the distributor wiring..just couldn't get it right. Had to make the loom tubes from brass as the plastic ones were BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH. This is the way it should look At least the plugs and wires came out ok...bought metal plugs..the plastic ones were..not so good..
  6. This is great...will be following along as I struggle to build the mephistopheles... This car is a mini version of it.
  7. Messed up on the firewall..too far foreword. I scratch built the floorboards a tiny bit too long...oh well
  8. Getting there with the firewall. The plastic one is wrong..the boards run up and down on the real one. After several tries with different wood I got it with bass wood for the engine side and oak veneer inside. Had to sandwich the plastic part as it has the bung that the bonnets pivot on. This is the real one. Now have to stain and weather them..then run the 2 cross pieces on the footwell side.
  9. Finished the springs...used lead wire...nightmare to fit them .The ones that come with it are terrible Need some weathering on them now
  10. Bought this whole thing at a swap meet for 50 bucks..find of the century..all the brass rod, tube, and sheet I'll ever need.
  11. Started the build again after over a year off. Going between the motor and the body now. Currently making the floor, and firewall. Using wood veneers over the plastic and brass tube for the nails?...slow going but I have more time now.
  12. Well..I'm retiring at the end of the year...will have some time on my hands for a bit..and while they may be expensive..your only going to be building 1 kit in a year..so there is that.
  13. Wow..looks great!! That up close shot looks totaly real! The weathering is right on.
  14. I'm a big fan of weathering. I prefer a used look..to sometimes a downright abused look..it all depends..do you want a museum look..or a raced and put away dirty look. This weekend at the Greenwich concourse I saw a perfect Mercedes gullwing...and next to it an unrestored one with chipped and cracked paint, beat up interior..it was a racecar. I liked it better..Hell I would drive that one while being terrified to drive the museum one. Up to you. Military models always look better with lots of weathering, cars and bikes too.
  15. At a car show saw a guy who built a brand new 1969 Jag XKE and put Weber carbs on it..took him a year to sort it out..all 12 of them LOL..
  16. The tubes came in for the barrels..11 mm and 14 mm..cut cement together with epoxy..then i'll add some putty to blend them together..drill the holes paint..and hopefully they will look ok
