  1. I didn’t know this Willy’s gasser existed until I saw this issue. That’s all it took, I just had to build it. I started with the amt Willy’s double kit and cut the hood away from the fenders then glued fenders to the body. I used the amt parts pack small block Chevy with the blower & belt, hydro transmission, chassis, interior , rear wheels, leaf springs, and ladder bars from the Willy’s kit. The headers are from revells anglia, the front suspension is cut down coil springs along with the steel wheels from amt’s 1962 bel air kit ,with parts box radius rods and aluminum tubing. The rear end came out of the amt 1967 comet. The decals came from scale modeling by Chris, whom, unfortunately, I believe is no longer with us.
  2. I’ll do my best to help you out here as i have also wanted to build these. For the 1964 comet look for the Jan 1964 issue of super stockers in action you will also need the following: amt model king 1964 comet; revell 1964 thunderbolt kit, any issue, for basic engine ,chassis, shock towers, fire wall, slicks, and front tires; amt 1963 corvette will provide the rear wheels and blower assembly; amt 1962 Chevy bel air north wind has a nice set of shallow American front wheels; amt double dragster, any issue, can give you the bell housing ,direct drive in&out box; Amt’s engine parts pack will give you the headers, or make them from aluminum tubing; Smp decals makes a decal sheet for this; for the 1965 comet, look for the sept 1965 issue of super stockers in action you will also need the following: moebius model king comet cyclone; A Polar lights funny car will give you the front wheels, tires, and motor; amt double dragster any issue for the front sub frame cut from the fiat along with the bell housing and in&out box, and the front axle; amt 1963 corvette for the rear wheels; you might be able to make the engine dog house from the mpc super judge funny cars interior parts I think polecat decals makes a decal sheet for this for the body color i would try tamiya’s metallic red
  3. You nailed the look great job. Did you paint the white or use the decals, and what paint brand/color did you use for the interior? I was using krylon brushed nickel which I now am having a hard time finding.
  4. Your build looks great! Although the word turd is a little harsh I agree these old revell kits are fussy to build, and the amt steel axles are superior to anything else.i keep a length of piano wire for making new axles. This one’s on my to build list along with the orange crate, and stone woods Cooke Willy’s. after I run out every thing else.Atlantis keep these old kits coming
  5. Wow it’s just so mad cool.what a great use of those old Allison’s . then there’s that expertly cut down fiat body, and that sweet heavy metal flake blue.yea all is right with the world.
  6. I would love to see a convertible up top included with this kit.
  7. You got the shade of gold just right it looks real sweet.I used a piece of window screen for the grill on mine but I got the color a little off. These amt funny’s are so fun to build . round 2 keep them coming.
  8. Love it! These competition coupe’s look great in gold.I have a survivor from my dad that he painted gold in the 60’s . he used those long headers from the 53 studebaker kit. My kid eyes though they were so cool. You inspired me to do a freshen up on it.thanks so much.
  9. You made this look great.theses old revell kits can be fussy to build
  10. Looks great I’ve always wanted to build this in 1/25 scale again great job ?
  11. This post is the first of my new series, “Building the Covers”. I think most of us can say as kids we just couldn’t wait to get our hands on some car magazines for our drawing and model building inspiration. I don’t want to think about how many of our dads’ hot rod and super stock magazines I massacred by cutting out the pictures. I now think it’s pretty cool to display a built model and matching magazine cover together. It can also be a good challenge to find the right kit, decals, paint color, and extra parts to build with. For this first one I chose the Arlen Vankee pro stock duster. I started with the amt duster and the revell hemi dart for a Donor kit. It gave up it’s hemi, rear suspension, roll bar, hood scoop, and shifter. The tunnel ram is from amt’s pro street 66 Nova, the carburetor’s are from the amt 67 comet. Paint color is testors Daytona yellow lacquer; decals are slixx. I think Billy Gooche also had a good set of decals for this car that were slightly different. The wheels on this are old Johann Fenton slots, the slicks are from the hemi dart, front tires are from the amt poly glass gasser.
  12. I built this from a Fremont resin body and decal kit. The frame and motor are amt double dragster.back wheels are amt 1963 corvette slicks are revell anglia gasser
  13. The gto funny car is out of the box mpc farmer kit.the fade paint job is testors rattle can lacquer. It some patience but the results are very satisfying.the decals are by Fremont resin. The altered wheel base gto is a resin body with testors candy red over silver enamel decals are slixx.there’s a amt parts pack engine/transmission with a injector hat from polar lights.the chassis, interior, and rear suspension is amt pro street 1966 nova.the roll cage is made from .80 rod the front suspension is left over from the revell 1932 5 window coupe. The rear wheels are from the mpc cougar funny car.the front wheels are from the amt Willy’s kit
  14. At time I built this I would have regular gray krylon primer. I think that’s it, but I could have possibly sprayed it with a gold under coat which would also have been testors enamel.bear with me it’s been about 9 years since I built this one.thanks for the nice complements
  15. I’ve been on a fuel altered building jag this winter.this was built from a Fremont resin body and decal kit,and a revell 32 ford 5 window coupe for the chassis, interior, and hemi block, heads, intake, and valve covers.the blower, belt drive, timing cover, and rear wheels are from the amt 1963 corvette.front wheels are parts box. I made the front axle from aluminum tubing.the front spring and shocks came from the amt jumbo kit which is a wealth of drag parts.a great deal when it’s on sale at hobby lobby.paint color is testers lime 2 part lacquer.
  16. This one is a combination between the original revell body and interior tin and the chassis from the mpc bounty hunter kit.I moved the front axle back between the frame rails to fit the wheel base and had to cut tin work to fit around engine .the back wheels are polar lights. The body color is testers metallic red enamel decals are slixx .even though the body is a little wacky in its dimensions it can still be made into a decent looking kit.it’s nice to see Atlantis bringing this one back
  17. This is my first post so I’m going to start with my favorite funny car pilot I built this using a Amt/ertl camaro body with the front wheel well’s cut out and moved forward the patch panels behind wheel wells were cut from the side of a donor body which will provide enough material for several conversions. The chassis and interior is sourced from the mpc hot rod funny car and will work with little or no modification — I pulled mine out of the spare parts box I had to make the front axle from aluminum tubing. The rear end is from the amt 1967 comet the transmission is from the revell 1932 5window coupe the decals are slixx the body color is tamiya
  18. Hi all I’m recently semi retired and thought it would be a good time to share the images of the over 300 drag car’s I’ve built over the past 40 years plus a few passed down from my dad I only build drag cars from the 50’s to the early 80’s every time a new or reissued kit comes out I feel like 14 all over again I’m looking forward to giving you some more insensitive for new builds
