It looks really good, I’m not generally a big fan of lowered cars but it fits that Ford perfectly.

No, not the voltage regulator? I was actually trying to clean some glue off of a tip to glue the seat backs on and had a brain fart… never cut toward yourself I’m going for something just a little greener than the sea blue that I think my bug had from the factory, when I got it, it had been repainted but it wasn’t that far off from the blue, just a bit more green.

Slip of the exacto knife on the bug.

Well the Dart is on hold a bit. Was painting the final coat of color today and the body fell off my stand. I now need to let it dry and sand it out… this project is cursed.

Thanks Wolf, I didn’t even recognize that.

This is the next car in my previously owned vehicle quest. It’s actually my first car, my brother gave it to me for Christmas ( one of wheel and deal transactions) when I was 15 so that would make it 1979. It was all original except for paint. It had been painted a medium/dark green and had kind of an ivory interior as I remember. I was allowed to drive it up and down our street (as far as my dad new) Being a 6 volt system and me wanting an fm radio but not the money to convert the electrical system, I bought a 12 volt battery and put it under the other side of the rear seat and ran wires to the radio. I unceremoniously cut holes in the door cards and mounted some Jensens as I recall. I had to wait until the following November to get my license and here is the tragedy of the story. One day leaving high school, my friend and I gave a ride to four girls, yes I was so cool, and about halfway home one of the girls in the backseat said, does anyone smell smoke? The battery I put under the back seat was just a plain old group 24, way to tall to properly fit under there and didn’t have the protective cover over the positive terminal that the 6 volt did and my seat load of girls had grounded out the battery, setting the old seat fiber on fire. We all piled out of there and watched as my new found manhood burned to the ground. Now as I said, I waited almost a year to drive that little beetle and got my license November 13th of that year and burned it and my dreams 2 weeks before Christmas, I enjoyed not riding the bus for 3 whole weeks. Well on to the build. It’s the first Tamiya kit I’ve tried and I have to say that the kit is impressive if not a little intimidating. There is very very little clean up to do on the parts except for the very small injector spots and 2 seam lines that ran from the roof line down the front fenders. At first I thought maybe the roof lines were for the old rag tops, but that didn’t make sense with the seams running down the front fenders. The seams were an easy clean up and so were the injector marks and the body is now drying in primer. I assembled the engine and transaxle, which were very detailed except for the carb, and added spark plug wires, vacuum hose to distributor and fuel lines. Any comments or suggestions, as always are welcome. Dave

The body is out of the dunk tank, rinsed and getting ready for primer. But in the meantime I thought I’d start my 66 Beetle engine. I will start a separate thread for this build but wanted to share some pics here. Dave.

Those seat decals look great!

I love the hearse look. One of my future projects is a sidepiped street hearse. I have already stolen your photos for future use. Dave.

The 1:1

Nice build, I always had this I love, I hate it attraction to Javelins.

I think it’s going to take a bath. S much as I like the color it’s not a true representation of my 1:1 So off she goes to take a bath.

So… This being just my third build since I was a kid and finding this site, I stupidly thought any brand was BMF big mistake! What a freaking mess, glue sticking everywhere. I’m going to try and clean it up but may end up dunking the body in that purple stuff and repainting. Ugh!

When I bought mine the front end was smashed in. I replaced the hood, grill, bumper etc… The only paint I had for the hood was black and I sprayed the engine compartment too. Interestingly, it had all of the GTS emblems but the only decent hood the wrecking yard had was a plain Dart hood. So on the model I filled in the Hemi hood opening so I didn’t have the GTS hood induction bulges.

That foil looks fantastic.

Very cool project.

Got the body painted. It’s pretty smooth, glossier than I wanted and not quite the color of the original but I kind of like it and may leave it. If so I am going to let it dry and then rub it out and try to BMF the front and rear windows. Dave.

Got the 383 finished and installed, I covered the 440 on the air cleaner but Wolf sent me a link for some cool Mopar decals and I am ordering the correct set, how do I remove the one I installed? Also finished the interior, it’s ok but a bit plain. I tried my first attempt at BMF on the door panels, have a long way to go at working with that stuff. And I finished the 426. Made a throttle linkage setup and ran the fuel lines to the carbs. Looks kinda cool on the engine stand. Thanks for all the input. Dave.

Thanks so much. I modified the 440 decal but I am ordering these tonight.

Was able to sit down for a couple hours the past couple days and got the 383 ready, plug wires routed, starter motor cable installed and fuel line run. I am going to try to run carb linkage after it’s installed in chassis. The display Hemi is coming along, I’ve got an idea for the carb linkage but need to locate some material for that. Wheels and tires are ready, tried full coat on the wheels and like the results. The interior is about ready, just a couple more items to finish painting and the body is ready for color, but I still need to refine the hood where I filled in the hood scoop hole. Thanks for looking, Dave.

Man, that is beautiful paintwork.

Got a lot of painting done today and put the oil pan on the engine and the tranny. Started working on the chassis and since I’ve got this engine stand from my Charger build, I thought I’d build out the Hemi from this kit to display. Started thinking about building a shop diorama…. My wife’s going to kill me? Dave.

Got some work done on the 383 tonight. Trying to figure out how to use the 440 decal on the air cleaner and make the numbers 383… any suggestions would be appreciated. Dave.
