Revell wide wall decals - any advice
Mopar maniac 74 replied to Jantrix's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I would paint the white walls with white acrylic paint. It dries flat and if you don't like it it washes off with water. -
Gunnar, I got in some research last night A couple 64s did not show much of shoulder harness mounts. The reading did say that the rules left a lot of the cage up to the teams. Also in 1964 Joe weatherly died in a crash in a race. It mentioned he did not wear a shoulder harness so maybe build the 61 without them. I will continue to look at these and see what else I can find. Also maybe contact petty museum. Tell them what you are doing they may be able to help your research and get you some pics. Most of the old nascar team shops are very accommodating.

Not a 100% sure on this and they changed a lot thru the 60s and 70s but they basically used a passenger seat and I believe they attached the belts to the bar behind the seat. Most drivers shoulders were higher than the seat back and the head restraint was a pad if they even had 1. They were just starting to make hip pads for the right side of the seats back then. Let me know what year and I will look thru some of my old books to see if I can be more accurate.

Back to the bandit he basically made the body for the revell dart kit. Including the lowered antenna on fender and molded for dart door handles and wipers. Revell Glass fit perfectly. Grill is molded for revell headlights. Tail lights included. The roof underside has detailed headliner. The lines are clean the fender wells are the same as the dart kit and it all fit nicely. It was $65.00 plus 13 for shipping. I thought it was good mold compared to others I have ordered so your call which way you want to go. Any more questions let me know. Enjoy your build.

I just ordered a scamp from bandit a couple months ago. Couldn't get an e mail either so called him. He called back had 1 in stock I sent him a check and 10 days later had a scamp. It is a nice body and fits the revell dart kit well.

1968 Sox and martin Cuda
Mopar maniac 74 replied to dri's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Looked at some pictures from the car at mecum auction site looks like no side markers on front fenders round on back easy to make. hood doesn't have bulges but a scoop and hood pins all the way around prob fiberglass piece but hood in 69 kit with scoop will work. I think it may already have the cut out on the underside depend on which issue you get. Back panel can be painted to simulate the real one including correct tail lights. No pics of interior or chassis. Keep us posted I want to see how it turns out. -

Thank you everybody Sounds good. -
Anybody ever buy from spotlight hobbies. Looks like they have some hard to find kits How are they as far as shipping and such?

1 more tip I learned the hard way is the resin is not flexible like plastic and breaks easily so donor chassis etc will need to be trimmed exactly to fit resin body

Trans am mike An early happy Veterans day to you and your dad and anybody else on here that served. To answer the topic usually 15 min to a half hour when I can. Usually try to spray paint the major pieces and similar colors to start with and assemble and detail from there. I think the answer for all of us is not as much as we would like to.

Quick change rear?
Mopar maniac 74 replied to NOBLNG's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Greg, The quick change in those modified kits represents a 70s era rear end. The monogram sprint cars would have a more modern version. The reissue kushman duster kit has a quick change as well. A little more detailed than the modified and slightly longer axle tubes. I don't know how well any of those would transfer over to a street car. My familiarity with them is in the race cars. Hope I helped a little. -
Slixx or Powerslide?
Mopar maniac 74 replied to LL3 Model Worx's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Remember the amt kit is 1/25 scale and pretty much all decal kits are 1/24 so the numbers and logos will probably work may still be a little large for the mark Martin but the stripes will definitely be different -
1983 Pontiac Grand Prix

There are some nascar kits out there. I can't remember if the door silhouette is visible or not. Might be a start to combine with stock Monte Carlo ss if nothing else is available -
Kelly I am comparing the Melrose missile super stock kit to a stock satellite kit. Redeem my self for the inaccurate info yesterday. The front k members 2 piece are exactly the same in both kits just simple stems sticking up to mount engine to. The only things you would be missing if you buy the Melrose missile kit is the stock hood if you want it and the rear seat. Other than that I believe the Melrose missile will get you everything you want for your build.

Mark, Color me gone is stock wheelbase. There is an altered but it is a different kit. Color me gone has a back panel no back seat. The front buckets and console with auto shift lever are same as stock. The hood has a hole cut in it for air filter so you must use the scoop. The side windows are full length with the post molded into them. The stock car does not have side windows. The hemi is full tube headers with cut outs but a single exhaust pipe. Personal preference here but I would have to run a dual exhaust on it. Any other questions let me know.

Fireball Red Line Tire
Mopar maniac 74 replied to TransAmMike's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I always used an old semi truck rim that I dipped the paint onto then pressed onto the tire. The size was perfect. If I did get any excess a toothpick will clean up the line. The good thing is using acrylic if you don't like it wipe with water dry and go again. -
Comp resins has a pro stock Dakota they say use any monogram pro stock car kit for donor. Suppose a pro mod could be done the same way. Not sure if the scca revell trans am kits would work for road race truck but as said above you will have to get creative to get exactly what you want.

Any Ford Van Possibilities?
Mopar maniac 74 replied to oldcarfan's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Nice pics mike. I like the fact you had your helmet on for the still picture bit not when taking the jumps with the Yamaha. Mini bike were the transition from bicycle to motorcycle when we were kids. After the Rupp I got a sachs sundowner 50c.c, with a 2 speed auto transmission. We sold them in the early 80s for around $250 and I can sell a gas tank from one for more than that now.
