  1. Hi everyone! I finally got my project "Superliner" finished, including a lowboy trailer. I first didn't know if I would make a trailer for this one but what's a heavy duty tri-drive without a trailer? Seeing the lack of space to put models, even after having built a show case, I decided to build a lowboy and put two older models on it so I can put coming projects in their place on the shelf! Anyway, I finished the rig and strapped two other Macks on it! That's when I had the idea of the "Triple Big Mac(k)!" Special thanks to Bren, who printed my Superliner hood on his resin printer for me. I just couldn't get it done nicely on my own filament printer! You saved me! 😊 Enjoy the pics! First just the tractor: The dent in the grille on the front left side was my way of integrating a crack in the hood due to my clumsy hands. I dropped the finished hood just before mounting it! Now with lowboy: By the way, for those who missed the build thread, the whole rig (Superliner and lowboy) are self designed and printed. Decals also self designed and printed on decal sheet! The loaded trucks are old kits. The AMT Mack Cruiserliner and the Ertl Mack DM800! Both built in the mid 80s and refurbished not too long ago! Now the whole thing including the loaded trucks: Thanks for stopping by!
  2. The second Mack being loaded: The whole rig will be posted "Under Glass" shortly! Thanks for watching and for all your great help and comments! 👍
  3. Time to load the first truck on the lowboy ... ... and get strapped down! (I knew the winch would be useful!😉) The second truck will follow soon!
  4. This is awesome Ron! Keep going! Very clean paint Job and assembly!
  5. Actually Brian, I'm sure you could! I don't have by far your knowledge about trucks and your experience in modelling but I think if you used a KW W900 cab and put Western Star fenders on a scratch hood it would look absolutely real with your abilities! 👍
  6. Finally got the chains! Had to make them rusty though. They were too shiny! 😊 Hope I can strap the two Macks on the lowboy this weekend and finish the project! 👍
  7. Looking great Gary! Did you adjust the hight of the front axle due to the larger diameter of the floaters? I had to on my Superliner. Otherwise the wheels on the front drive axle would have "floated"! I'll be watching! Very nice build!
  8. Undescribable what you're doing, Brian! I always get the feeling that I'm watching the manual manufacturing of a real truck! Ever thought of resurrecting Marmon and building the real thing by hand? 😉
  9. Thanks! It's gonna be a triple Big Mac(k)! 😉
  10. Looks awesome Brian! Carrying on the top build quality to the interior! Fascinating Work!
  11. These two are the candidates to be strapped onto the lowboy! I guess most of you know them from former threads! As soon as the chains arrive I can finish up and move on to the next project.
  12. It's wonderful to ready how appreciated it is when guys get together spontaneously and created something new like this build. I wanted to take the challenge making something new and it makes me happy to see that not only Jeff appreciates it. Thanks Bren, I learned a lot about resin printing and that it's not even similar to what I do with my filament printing. And thanks again for making it possible for me to finish my Mack by adding the new hood! Very generous of you! Thanks to all others for your comments even if this is Jeff's thread. Sorry Jeff but I just felt the need to say something! 😉 I wish you lots of fun with this build and I'm anxious to see how it will look. It'll be a very unique build and judging your previous builds it's gonna be another "WOW!" Hey, but no pressure my friend! 😎
  13. Thanks! Glad you like it! I´ve got two even longer rigs! My GMC General Pipeline truck measuring 1.02 mtrs and my White Western Star road train measuring 1.70 mtrs! That´s about as long as they will get. Got no more space! 🙃
  14. I guess the trailer is finished now! The whole rig is close to 92 cms long! With the ramps down it's almost 97 cms. I added marker lights along the sides and tail lights. Ran out of chains so I'll have to wait till new ones arrive so I can put the trucks on. I'll put it in "under glass" when I have the chains and the trucks can be loaded! Thanks for watching! I am fully aware of the fact that trailers like this one normally don't have a winch but I thought hey, it's for loading vehicles! There's Always one that won't start so how do you get a truck on a lowboy if it can't be driven? At least that's my personal point of view. 😊
  15. It's always painful doing a more than immaculate job masking a model and then finding little spots where paint went through despite all efforts. I don't mean to know all better, I don't and I hope not to offend you in any way but if I may give a bit of advice? When you're finished masking use the same color again that you used on the surface you masked. That fills up any tiny openings not visible to the eye. When that's completely dry you can apply the second color. Of course it's not a guarantee that it works 100% but it does help! But you probably did that and I'm just being a know it all. Your paint job looks great and you're doing a great job on this. I'll keep watching and keep my mouth shut!
  16. I tried to make the ramps and perforated plates look like they were very frequently used. I sanded them with 500 grain sand paper to create the impression of tire marks. Good thing I printed in black! The dampers in the rear actually work. I'll post a little video shortly!
  17. Not sure yet. The whole rig is over 90 cms long. I guess it'll be a shelf.
  18. The trailer is pretty much finished. Still have to make the straps for the tires of the to be loaded trucks!
  19. Thanks Jeff! This weekend it should happen! 😉
  20. A few pics of the almost finished trailer: The perforated plates above the axles are still in print. Ramps with dampers work fine! This is what the whole rig looks like: Now the small stuff hast to be done: Tail lights, markerlights, licence plate, winch, straps to tighten the load (which will be two other Mack trucks - hopefully they'll both fit on the trailer).
  21. Thanks Bren! I would have had the second one in case of total loss but it only broke in two pieces. Maybe because the grille was already attached! Maybe I'll prepare the second hood anyway, for all cases! 😉
  22. Thanks very much Guys! I'm glad that you see it that way! I'm not 100% satisfied to be honest. Some things are just not like I expected them to be and there were quite a few set-backs along the way. I guess for that it's OK though. I can't wait to get the whole rig off the bench. The trailer should be finished sometime this weekend. I'll keep you updated! 😊
  23. I finally finished the tractor: Since the hood I got from Bren (thanks again for printing it for me, Bren!) unfortunately dropped to the floor and broke in half I decided to make it look like an accident as they say in Hollywood movies! 😊 If it wouldn't have worked, I would have had a second hood from Bren to use as an exchange part. To tell the truth, I wasn't really in the mood to make another hood. This one was finished! Painted, decals on, everything! On it's way to be hinged to the truck it just slipped out of my clumsy hand and fell to the floor. To make a long story short, I used a soldering iron to make the grille fit to the hood. Used some thinner and rust color to make it look a bit real. See for your self. I'll post it "under glass" when the trailer is finished too!
