  1. Great info, thanks, George. They must have just used whatever colour was available when they produced the run. Good to know. Red must have been most prevalent for the Beetle, as I've only seen red on eBay. I saw an Avenger in green on there the other day.
  2. Thanks, Scott. I was wondering why it seemed to be too short even for the VW, and thought it might even be 1/32 scale, except for the VW fit width wise. I've already modified the trailer to fit using the tilt bed part from an AMT 76 Caprice kit trailer, so the VW can go on the trailer, and the ramps can be flipped up. If I've been able to get you moving on building a kit by passing along an instruction sheet, then I'm very pleased to have done it!! Please provide pictures!
  3. Miguel-Fabulous! Merry Christmas!
  4. Thank God that no one was hurt! You stepping up may have helped prevent a disaster. There just isn't enough a deterrent for people these days. I hope you can settle down and get some sleep, Scott!! I'm up late as I got home from work a little while ago. Cheers!
  5. Thanks, RG & Kurt!!!
  6. John - I was looking at your headers, and comparing to the box art. Could it be that you have them switched, and below the frame? Looks like they should be above the frame to fit into the cut out on the fender/rocker, and may just be on the wrong side of the motor. Just a thought.
  7. Thanks, Scott. I was not aware the IMC was moulded in white. I don't have one, and was going on 2nd hand info! The Union kit is from the IMC moulds, so the kits are the same. The decal sheet is different. I can scan the Union instruction sheet for you. I asked a friend to scan the IMC instructions for me, so if he does, I can send that along, too. The Union instructions have most written info in Japanese, but the rest is pretty easy to follow.
  8. Neal, George, and John - Thanks for the comments! I'm pleased with the outcome! A fiddly kit to be sure, like many old kits! But really nice little moulded details all through it. I found a few parts that are similar between this and my Lindberg LRW kit, mainly the V-8 valve covers, and the go pedal! The biggest difference between the IMC and the Union reissue of this VW is the colour of the palstic (IMC - red, Union - white), and the Union instructions have most of the build and option notes in Japanese! I've managed to find, and win, two online auctions (a sealed one, and this built up, which came with another unbuilt kit in an open box, all Union kits). They are out there, and do fetch $30-40 for an unbuilt kit.
  9. Thanks, Don. I hear you!! I've got way more styrene than I can hope to build, and not just VWs...I've got two unbuilt Union kits, and do plan on (eventually) building one stock, and another Gasser. This one has some parts box replacements for missing, or parts I didn't want on the build, so I look forward to building a box-stock Gasser.
  10. Everything else has been Dub'd so why not? I like it!!

    Hummer

Nice, clean build. Looks great! Cute kid, too!!
  12. Thanks, Clay-Tamiya '66 Beetle and Ghia kits are highly recommended. The Revell kits are good, but a bit finicky with fit in some areas, but are still decent kits. This one I built is a Union kit, that came from IMC moulds. Unbuilt examples go in the $40 range, or there abouts. It is a stock/V8 Gasser 2 in 1. Here's a couple more photos:
  13. Lighting isn't perfect, but I used a stationary light and no flash - That blue hue is from the flourescents over my workbench...I'll get it yet!!
  14. Just thought I'd try out my light for photos inside. Not as good as sunshine, but the ice and cold now is a bit limiting - I don't want to lug the dio outside in the cold! I moved my dio to a different location in my workshop, and set the light above. I can move the light a bit for variety, and need to come up with a backdrop, other than the white paper. Anyways, here's the latest resto from the shop, a 60s VW V-8 Gasser (built-up bought off that auction site, along with a 65 Chevelle wagon and a trailer).
  15. Yes, the engine is in the wrong end, for sure! Finished this one, so got it in the Under Glass forum, here. This is the 65 Chevelle wagon that came with this, as did this trailer...may get to work on the support/push vehicle next! Or maybe the unbuilt Union kit...hmmm...decisions, decisions!
  16. Finished this one today. Enjoy! Here's a link to the Photobucket album. Enjoy!
  17. Thanks, John. I really like how your paint turned out!
  18. Thanks for the comments. It has been a fun build. I've got two unbuilt Union kits, and plan on building one as the Gasser, and one stock.
  19. I bought one of the re-issues, and the paint is what is holding me back! You did an awesome job on it! Can you share what paints you used?
  20. Thanks for the comments. It was a fun build! Conor - As to the flash - I agree, natural light is much better, and in my work area there is none. I've been playing around with the flash, and a diffuser for it, with mixed results. Nothing looks as good as sunshine! I've got more experimenting to do with lighting, I suppose! Mark - I used a 3 grit sanding/polishing stick...two grits on one side, and the polishing pad to finish on the other, kind of like vinyl. Bought it at the hobby store a few years ago.
  21. Looks fabulous! Great colour for Lightning!
  22. Those are neat trailers. I never did manage to get one of those. Too many other projects, I guess!!
  23. Great start to a cool idea!
  24. Nice! I like it! That is a great idea, and a neat project.
