Dash in place! I used the cutter to make some glass for the gauge faces, Createx for the nice metal flake-looking wheel and a couple of other little bits...not that you can see most of this when the tub’s in the body anyway ? Need to put an engine together and then I can start finishing this thing ??. More soon!

Not sure about those...but I did all this stuff in the free software that came with the Silhouette. I’ve been using Photoshop for years so I can lay out stuff in that if I need to and then bring it into the cutter software but for most projects you won’t need to do that. I bet the Cricuts come with software that’s plenty competent to do all kinds of useful stuff too though, and they have some cool products for those that might have some modelling uses too (wood, metal sheet, leather etc)

Oh, and a couple of cutter-projects that I forgot about - that rear speaker on the interior tub of my Studebaker project was styrene sheet cut on the cutter with a fabric insert also cut on the cutter - and below that a set of floor mats I made for the same build:

I couldn’t find a thread specifically for tips and tricks on using a scrapbook cutter (such as the ones Silhouette and Cricut sell) so I thought I’d show some of the stuff I like to do with mine. The most obvious use is to use them roughly as they’re intended and cut either vinyl or masking material for airbrushing or painting. Here’s some I did recently using airbrush frisket: Another project I did lately called for a leopardprint pattern on the interior, so I used the cutter to make a mask so I could paint that: That little tiki shift knob was done with a mask cut on the cutter too - that was really pushing the limits of how small you can go on these things. That bomber bench seat was cut on the cutter too - Eric Ritz has done a bunch of MUCH more interesting parts on his (frames, dashes etc) but this was a fun quick project and the cutter did a nice job of that diamond pattern I think! Another thing that you can do with them is cut some thin acetate sheet to make gauge glass (excuse the poor photo - tiny clear parts are hard to photograph!) This lettering on the same project was done on the cutter too - just cut a mask and sprayed through it with the airbrush: I’d love to see if anyone else has any cool things that they’ve done with their cutters - there’s a bunch of cool stuff you can achieve with them by thinking outside of the box a little!

Next job I wanted to tackle was the shift knob - I was going to carve one out of some wood or styrene tube but I thought it would be a fun test of my vinyl cutter to see if it would cut something as tiny as a tiki face for a novelty shifter - turns out it will! Whilst I was installing that I used some of Eric Ritz’s favorite o-rings to make a shifter boot and added a couple of photo etch screws for a little detail More soon!

I did look at some of those but it’s nice to have the mask so you can shoot the parts exactly the color you have in your head! I’ll definitely be using this trick again! Did some more work on the bench seat this morning - got seatbelts in, added some photoetched bolt and rivet detail and made an adjustment lever with a clear orange glass handle: More soon, thanks for looking fellas!

Have we got any Hot Wheels collectors here? I never really took much notice of them until this year when they released their red and blue Miatas - but I had been watching out for one of these this last couple of months since I realised it doubles as a bottle opener! I meet my wife at the station every evening after work and we usually hit the Target across the street and I keep finding more and more of these following me home lately ?

I did have it on the other side originally, then I decided that if I was driving it I’d rather have the cool air for myself and let the passenger have the better visibility ??‍♂️ Thank you sir! A couple of little updates - had the idea for a bomber BENCH seat, so I made one of those: I used my scrapbook cutter to put a pattern on the back panel of the seat but it’s not really visible yet - I’ll need to squirt some paint over it to bring that out. I made the cushion from some styrene sheet, laminated together to make one piece - I’ve got a particular design in mind for the fabrics which I’m excited to get done... The interior rub that I had was a real mess, so I’m making new door panels and some little bits and pieces for that: And here’s a hint at the first step of the interior fabrics color scheme - more on that soon!

Are you talking about glue to assemble parts (for good, such as engine halves) before painting or to mock parts up or for final assembly? I like regular styrene cement for assembling styrene to styrene parts, poster tack or white glue for mocking up and Krazy glue for most final assembly tasks that I couldn’t do before the painting was done

Gave this one a week or so to dry and gave it a polish this morning - that Donn Yost paint method really does work well! Still some polishing to do, but this is just the cloths on the roof and a little Meguiars in a couple of tricky to reach spots - no wax or anything yet. And a vid, because I was pleased with it! ? Next job is the foil (again)...didn’t enjoy that the FIRST time ?. More soon, soon as I’ve motivated myself here ??
