you transport me back and i'll build that puppy; let's go. Revell kits were way to hard for me as a kid. my list of failures include the original Mickey Thompson Challenger and the 1956 Ford pickup oh, wait; you mentioned '70s & '80s. nope sorry; those were model train decades.

Revell as a pat, one word, answer. but there are satellite companies already mentioned which have a fairly short list but they are exquisite kits. i think the current lingo is "artisanal" - at least that's what the local bakery calls their $10 a loaf bread. the lady who makes it doesn't shave her legs, but that's another thread unto itself.

as bobss396 mentioned, 3D printers are all the rage. a lot of libraries have a MakerSpace which will guide you along the path of using one of these gizmos.

i had some Amazon money in the till, so i ordered a bunch of Vern Tardel's repair books. #2 is "transmissions" and at first blush, [delivered yesterday afternoon] they will prove of value in a number of areas. -
Painting wiring on firewall
sidcharles replied to Redisetta's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
the other point to emphasize is that it's not an either 'this or that proposition.' combine and use a couple of each idea on the same model and see what suits you or works best in a given situation. dry brushing and Tamiya panel line accent paints can go a long way towards improving a cast firewall (or anything) without getting too deep down the rabbit hole. -

those rascals @ scalemates pulled a good one on me. it's listed under Fleetmaster (if that's the one you meant) '47 Chevy Fleetmaster , Moebius Models 2302 (2025) the instruction sheet (from another version) has a good picture of the steering column & shift shaft (?) to help with proportion. thanks sid -

holy-smoley guys. you don't know how many responses the Ford Barn & HAMB have sent me today and most of them have left me scratching my head. both diagram & pictures [above] have all but eliminated and doubts in my mind how the seemingly contradictory motions of lever & crank thingie interact to make it work. much appreciate the helps, sid -
speaking of transmissions .... the floor shift was omnipresent until when; around 1941 or so? but what happens if a rodder has a three speed transmission, and not the means or desire to put the lever on the floor? for him, the journey may be the destination with no hurried anticipation of getting there. or maybe his gal likes doing the "slide-over" and sitting next to him on those long drives. kinda hard to feel romantic with a steel shaft between your knees. i've yet to find the interconnection between the transmission linkage and the two perpendicular stalks which emerge from the steering column mounted shaft connected to the shift lever. any link to a diagram or help piecing this puzzle together will be greatly appreciated. thanks, sid

i've recently been made aware that acrylic paint takes 28 to 30 days to fully cure. believe it was in the Primer video i posted a couple of days ago. (31) Vince Venturella - YouTube

Painting wiring on firewall
sidcharles replied to Redisetta's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
a gateway procedure to the above final method would be to paint the firewall solid color, and the glue wire of whatever color you want using the molded wire as a path. most of it would disappear into the shadow if your new wire was applied to the topside & viewing surface. a betcha a cookie after 2 or 3 like that, you'll be ready to sand down to flat and run the wires to suit. you can see the results are well worth the effort. -

when the cost of a "normal" kit is inching to $40, plus aftermarket or donor kit cost, plus paint & sundries, it's kind of in-line for where we are in the hobby. am i the only one who looks at a model and sees $150 - $200 as the norm? wonder how long before a 3D guy pops out an engine for this behemoth ? -

Q: are the holes in the chassis/ floor pan for screws like the old AMT kits? -
addendum: initially i thought a "hobby compressor" would keep the wind in my airbrushing sales. worst investment and set back my attempts to learn airbrush painting for almost a year. public service announcement: buy a contractors style compressor with a two gallon air reservoir , air dryer filter thing, and long hose. you'll be glad in the long run.

i'm not touching the 900 kits stash or the unobtainium Pocher Rolls Royce landau with the box signed x the Queen Mother, but stuff you 'had to have' because it was going to revolutionize your model building experience. i'll go first : jump rings watch parts a dozen different sizes of magnets two dozen of beads/ weathering pencils weathering powders you?
