Aaron, this kit has some shortcomings with brake detail. It's a weird one because it has the master cylinder that you need, and air hoses for the trailer, but no air compressor.I'm not knowing if it was correct to have a trailer only air system ,with hydraulic truck system. In this link you will see the master,it's not a L700 but it's the same location as the kit part.I'm sure the other pages here will help also. http://dodge-semis.com/Brochures/1973MD/pg08and09.html

What tools do i need?
mistermodel replied to TKobes's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Why??,I use testors red all the time for building the sub assemblies,it welds the styrene together. It is strong.I will use super glue for some things, but you have to watch because it fogs up chrome, some one said its because it reacts to your skin oil that's on the part your gluing?Epoxy is a good alternative. Also good ol' white glue for windows and lights,it doesn't fog the clear, and works well for mock ups, there is other stuff for clear, but white glue you can get anywhere, and a bottle will last a long time Now for paints, you can't beat the stuff that's made for models.I have used krylon, duplicolor, and a lot of other off brands, both enamel and lacquer, all from the can.I don't have an air brush.I like lacquer because its thinner,a lot of times I get paint too thick with enamel(I'm no pro),but needs more work to get a great shine (lots of buffing). When painting with stuff that is not for the hobby always use primer,I like duplicolor.Actually it is a good idea to always use primer because you can see the imperfections and mold lines on the parts better,so you can get rid of them before the final paint. A xacto knife, probably the first thing.Small diagonal cutters(wire cutters) for cutting parts off trees.Sand paper,600 and up the higher the number the finner,1200 to get primer ready for paint.Go to the make up section of your favorite store and get some sanding sticks for doing finger nails.Elastic bands, clothes pins(for clamping parts),and tooth picks(for dabbing glue) are great things most people can find around the house.A good steel ruler is handy.A steel clothes hanger can be bent into a holder for painting bodies.A pin vise(a small hand held drill with tiny bits), small miter box and razor saw are nice when and if you want to modify or scratch build parts. All the stuff I mentioned are inexpensive Kevin -

The cab, engine, hood, grill, and possibly the trans would be the same as a smaller pick up.Fenders were bigger to fit taller tires. -
Stretched frame Tractors
mistermodel replied to Sergey's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Sergey, somewhere I have some charts from the 70's that show lenght laws stat by state.I'll dig them up for you and post. Some time in the 80's they did away with lenght laws, well sort of.There is still some restrictions such as distance betweem truck and trailer axles. For example here in Ontario you cant have a 53 foot trailer with the boggies all the way back of the trailer.I think ontario can't have more than 75 foot total lenght,I'll try to find out definate answers for modern laws. -

An impressive unit. You must be a better painter then I am,I can barley get one car sprayed out of one can when using that kind of paint, never mind only 3 on this beast.I have one waiting to build, was thinking of useing cub cadet touch up paint from the tractor dealer. Here is a bunch of links for these beasts http://public.fotki.com/modeltrucks25thscale/truck_brochures/international/ http://public.fotki.com/modeltrucks25thscale/workshop_manuals/international/ Also search TEREX payhauler. They built them after international. They were painted grey -
Stretched frame Tractors

Back in the day western Canada trailers had an 16" king pin compared to an eastern 36" king pin to get the tandems further apart to get max. weight acording to the bridge formula.I'm prety sure an 260" wheelbase with a 16" king pin forty footer would give you the max. lenght of the day. Also trailers speced for the west only alot of times had non slideing boggies on the trailer.I think even today only tandems are allowed in British Columbia,no tri axles -

Titan 90 help please
mistermodel replied to truckbuilder42's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
The easy way is to buy another titan.say you wanted 4 fuel tanks ,buy using a duplicate frame you would have the mounts.you could also find a channel beam or an Ibeam,if using Ibeam trim off the flange on one side,or from flat stock from some one like plastruct or evergreen. You can put cross members where the seams are to stiffen it up.I usually put a piece of flat stock in side the channel, called a fish plate, about an inch longer to reinforce the stretch .If i remember i cut the frame and extensions on a 45 angle to give more glue surface, real trucks are done on a 45 also -
I like,I like.I have a 110'titan with a 280" wheelbase, and 72" tandem on the go also.Yours has mine beat by 2 axles,4 cylinders, and a wack of gears. If I'd stop starting new stuff,I'd have some paint on it by now,at least the frame is primed and the V12 is done and plumbed.Seeing yours has inspired me to get back at it.The race is on .I've also thought about a beam trailer also, but not sure where to start, they are the way to go for the payhauler

I saw that wrecker in person, many years ago at there shop somewhere in the niagra region, real nice.It was also an overdrive wrecker of the month. If memory serves me right the owner was larrys truck service. The owner at that time also had a 359 trailer toter, with 2 double bunks, the second one had hydraulic arms to set it on the ground,so a harley could be driven into it,then raised back on to the frame. That was about 30 years ago, that 359 was probibly the first of its kind in ontario.

Here's something I've been working on I'm trying to back date this autocar.I moved the kit axle and fenders forward Added a Cat from a snap pete.it fits real nice, after a bit of grinding to the lower pully, even the acar driveshart and cat upper rad hose fit. It's going to have twin intake/exhaust using acar parts

Hey guys quick question
mistermodel replied to freightshaker's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
It should not be too difficult to move the fenders back, cut the rear of them off to mount on the cab cowl,a little fill and sand ,presto a set back hood.I make it sound soooo easy.I'd get an autocar and use that setback chassis. You could then use the leftover DR chassis and autocar hood/fenders to build a forward axle autocar -

Doug, that will be nice. The above link is great ,but for some reason the interior shot is a brockway. Truck motor colors
mistermodel replied to Aaronw's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's my understanding all 903's were dark grey, basicly black.I have a magazine some where that has an ad for a mack V8 that is silver, its from around '71.I'm not sure if its the same engine thats in the DM800 kits or not. Also a mack cruiseliner engine could be painted cooper to make it a 300+ Kevin -
White freightliner COE Frieightliner FLC kenworth W900,early not a W900B.They were never called a W900A International transtar 4300 GM 9500 long nose I love the look of 70's trucks and paint schemes and the long wheelbase westerns are the coolest .
