The worst one I attempted ,never did finish it was the monogram(maybe it was revell) 1/24 jeep CJ7-pure junk. That's the only car type kit I've had problems with.My main interest these days is trucks ,Ive built a lot of them that other people complain about warped chassis and such, with no problem,so maybe I'm lucky or blind, maybe a little of both. The L700 kit was probably the most challenging though. Some of the kits mentioned on these 4 pages I've had over the years and just don't recall too many issues.I think that kits that don't look right go to the parts box,not sure how the makers got away with some stuff.Whoever it was that mentioned that a lot of tooling is 40-50 years old made the most valid point in this thread

I want to comment on a few things- I haven't started any more on my 359 dwc43- your engine looks good,I thought I had a pic of the A/C system for you,but cant see the compressor.so I think its on the lower drivers side. The canister thingy part of an A/C system is on the lower passenger side of the firewall,PM me if you need the pic of I'm talking about Justin-you got the right idea about the hosetenna. The hoses(3) would come off the frame ,coil around and hook to the kit part.AMT molded the gladhands hanging off the hosetenna for storage off the frame. If the stick didn't have have these hangers,a cab mount hanger would be proper.A older truck like the frieght liner would have non coiled black hoses, not to say coiled coloured ones would be wrong, but the truck would have to be updated with much newer replacement parts Everyone else,Glad to see some trucks being built

I love it,I didn't know what to think when you first posted WIP pic,but I soon changed my mind.Well worth the effort. -
That's a flash back from my youth.I remember the red stripe was like that fluorescent marking paint they use to mark where cables or pipes would be under ground in construction. Its faded white in your pic.The blue is like a medium shade, darker than say, ford grabber blue, but not dark like a navy blue.Search HANKS you may find one that's not faded

Picked 2 up a couple weeks ago.I found a neat pic of a single axle one that I liked,so started cutting the frame down.I'm using a ford C for rear suspention.Decided to cut the hood down to a 4200 short nose.I got looking at the left over hood piece and frame rails and decided to start the second one also, an extended hood with a long frame. My single axle has the frame done now and painted white. Also have both engines built, and got a little more sanding and fill to do on the long nose. The long one will be show style with a lowered cab, drop visor ,and big pipes Here are a few pics from the first day of building

That is a neat Kwhopper.Never heard of that movie. How would you shift a aux. transmission with an auto with no clutch??I've read about that combo before and not sure how it worked. Here's another possible build-the day cab astro from "another 48 hours", the one with a box behind the driver for the camera man to hide in

I was needing a lowered truck in my collection.Took a hard look at a revell 359,and decided it would be too much for me.I recently started a transtar 4300,and the way the hood mounts made it easy to just lower the body.Maybe you can go that route.I'm guessing most lowered real truck,if they work, just have a lowered body, leaving the susspention stock to carry a load -
Hang on.When looking at the pic of the engine to me it looks like if you lowered it and moved it behind the front axle it might fit.I know you can tell better than us just looking at a photo. How about a mid engine, stuff it betwwen the tanks under the bunk.If your gonna be going 200 you'll need a low center of gravity. If these opyions work, fill the hood up with high teck equipment to keep track of smokie.

I would love to see you make those decals ,Aaron I can't find the folder that I have that mack info in,to show what I have about the thermodyne.I requested it from the mack museum. They can send you photos on just about anything.Mack had there own gas engines back then, here's a pic http://public.fotki.com/modeltrucks25thscale/truck_brochures/mack/mack_n-40_1958/mack_n408.html#media

I like these things too.Never knew why till a few years ago, when I was 3 I went on my first trip with my dad from Toronto to Ottawa in one.I don't remember, but subconsciously it must be the reason I love these. I found that Edsel headlights are a good match for a 4 light set-up,I'm using them on my slow going mack n conversion. A tandem is a CT800,900 900's had the larger wipers like on a mack cruiseliner or gmc general standard, these were optional on the smaller series On the one I built I found louisville wheels swap right on for those wanting alcoa wheels have a couple more in stock, one to back-date,and one for an FWD. Here's a page from a 1971 ford truck owners manual showing the dash I have a some mack n detal pic also My local hobby shop has a couple of the tractors on sale, thinking about getting at least one of them for a late model conversion Arron I'd be interested in those decals.how about the early super duty or jet plane shaped ones for the doors?

Peterbilt Stripes
mistermodel replied to truckman1981's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Paint them on.Use the decals for a template for masking -
The only one I ever had was the shockwave pete. These could be built into cool heavy haulers with all the die cast equipment in the smaller scales.

Dodge L-700 Flatbed
mistermodel replied to Chuck Most's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I got 2 at the same time ,one white ,one gray. The white one had a ton of flash, the grey hardly none, but badley warped. Are the new ones with a tank or dry van any better? Oh,great build Chuck -
In Canada today is REMEMBERANCE DAY,for both fallen and serving members of the military. LEST WE FORGET

I wouldn't of figured that system was used on a semi unit,I know that dodge would of been a city truck with smaller payloads ,but still bigger than a camper or boat.

Need your help
mistermodel replied to txdieseldog's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
peoples choice best engine best interior best paint best fit and finish best race car best sreet machine/hot rod best show room stock That should do it -
I'll get in the on the fun.I'll enter a revell western life pete 353,that will have proper 359 fenders,so it will be a 359.I just have parts that are still on the tree primed ,ready to sand and such, and interior parts painted. Will post pics. Not sure what I'll be doing to it yet,box stock would be a big change for me

Aaron, never thought about that kit,I was thinking a military kit for those parts. I also saw one of those tracked dodge's using a pick-up cab of the same vintage, wish I new who made them so I could do a google search. Back to the L series kit, these are fiddly kits, but build up into a nice model.I need a couple more, cheap, all but the flat bed trailers look good.Just too many things to build for a decent flat bed, mainly a proper frame,I'm turning 2 into a A train set up.No frame is fine for the box trailer ,but a flat would fold up without a frame.Plus the 40 fords have great tear drop lights that are good for custom petes and such, and good vintage police/fire goodies
