  1. After the flat parts above and below the ridges are nice and flat ,put masking tape above and below,so your only sanding and filling the raised parts. Also use a ruler or some other flat edge to gauge if your work is too hi or low.You will get, it if it takes a long time, you'll be an expert when done.Kevin
  2. Another members international double bunk project reminded me of something that has turned into a long term project of mine, just pick away at this one.I have done a little more work on this than what the photos show. The frame is now about a 280" wheelbase, engine is done, cab is almost ready and a 72" spread rear suspention has been built from 2 stock ones.Made a V-12 from two V-8's,added twin turbos and twin intakes with scratch built air cleaners with "inside air" ducting. Also spliced kit tires together to make floatation tires for thr front.Have a look- Kevin Kevin
  3. Nice start,Phoneguy aka Jerry built on awhile ago. That pic of the real one is great. Here is another coach built transtar from my collection Here is a link- http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/forum01/index.php?topic=2014.0 I love this type of custom work,I have a 110" astro on the go Kevin
  4. I just came from the chat room.Got logged in but I had a problem though,I couldn't find the area to type a message in. What am I missing????? Kevin
  5. I moved axle forward.I'm back dating it with a mostly tin interior, spoke wheels, small bumper, and a scratch built right side step/battery box. Also twin intake/exhaust Got rid of the ol'250 cummins for MORE POWER Kevin
  6. a virtual bolt in.the engine/trans are the same, infact almost every frame part is the same one.battery boxes, one exhaust part, and rear spring/diff are unique to each one. Kevin
  7. I'm going to chime in on this again.A '55 chevy truck cab with some '58 impala fenders for the basic shape for the fenders,of coarse with lots of work also. Still think a staight frame from many rigs over a L700 or C800 is the best.I searched for a simular '55 conversion ,but didn't find what I know is there.I'll look later and post a link for yeah Kevin
  8. I'd get a dodge L700 fot the transmission ,wheels, and some other small parts. For the chassis I'd try a titan/astro kit, good suspention parts, wheels, and fuel tanks.I think there may be an early 60's chevy dump on a astro frame on this forum here someplace Kevin
  9. I have found that whatever conventional I build I have an issue.I now mount the hood then play with the cab mounts to make it fit the hood. Kevin
  10. Fantastic, nothing not to like, the bumper fits like a glove.Nice to see the support cables for the boom, often they're left off. Kevin
  11. Great start.I think these things are rugged looking.Glad you took the lug tires off the steering axle.I must disagree about the texas bumper, maybe a "box" bumper like an AMT alaskan hauler KW would look good with the heavy look your going for.All your builds look great,so I'm sure what you build will have the porportions and look. Kevin
  12. Looks like your off to a great start. My dad had that flag hanging in his '78 frieghtliner like you did. Your paint colour is like the old JUMBO fleet from the '70's here in Canada, you can find some pics on HANKS Your tow body is shaping up,here's a link for some ideas.... http://tow411.yuku.com/topic/58740/t/Big-Stick-Wreckers.html?page=1 Kevin
  13. I know I have a magizine with pics of U.S. scanias but cant find it. I'd say that mirrors, headlights and clearance lights must match D.O.T specs of the time. From what I remember of the article the trucks wern't that much differant than euro models Kevin
  14. this is a great build.I'm liking the long wheelbase and steel wheels Kevin
  15. Ed,nice work.Great little trailer Kevin
  16. Nice start.the side view shows perfect proportions.I like that you didn't go over board with the wheelbase. I better get a couple of those KW's as well as another PETE,I parted out my first one. Those revell kits have good detail and lots of posabilities Kevin
  17. found some old dodge engines for yeah http://cgi.ebay.com/1950-Dodge-4-Ton-Model-Y-Tractor-Trailer-Truck-Brochure-/260334814746?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3c9d2a061a http://cgi.ebay.com/1954-Dodge-G-H-J-K-1-1-2-2-2-1-2-Ton-Truck-Brochure-/370132864599?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item562da34e57 http://cgi.ebay.com/1939-Dodge-3-Ton-Diesel-Truck-Sales-Brochure-/350142610134?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5186203ad6 Kevin
  18. I'm liking your plan. What style is your build gonna be, a replica type or a restored type?If your going for something restored any engine would work.I,d say the plymouth engine mated to the L700 transmission would be period correct. As mentioned a early hemi could work.I think there was a dementionally smaller hemi in the 50's as well.Ask some car guys on the forum about them.I saw a L6 in a bit of a newer dodge some where with duel carbs ,I'll try and find what site to send you to Kevin
  19. Been working on this.Dirtied up the lil'ol'250,chassis will get a bit of dirtMade twin intakes from astro partsBonnets are bolt caps I found in the shedHere's the cab needs pinstripe yet
  20. I have one here in my hands.Don't know what scale it is ,smaller than 1/25.Its made by JADA toys inc.Product #20120 Kevin
  21. Great build. I like it alot, my all time favorite truck. The first transtar coe fuel tanks work much better, that would be much worse.LOL
  22. Can you ger pics? I've been looking for some pics of the old badges, need some good straight on ones. KEVIN
