  1. Stunning, just stunning....
  2. The majority was fooled!!! And by a wide margin. This is quite rare, actually.
  3. That '55 is as near perfect as I think I've seen. Welcome! And let's see more...
  4. Here are the oldest pics I have been able to find of my early builds. Judging from the building in the background this would have been the summer of '61 through the spring of '62 when I was 13 or 14. The dragster (which I now dimly recall had a black body) appears to be based on the old Revell chromed Dragmaster parts pack frame and the engine looks a lot like the blown Algon injected Pontiac that was recently included in the great Stevens International AMT Parts Pack set. But, perhaps it's a kit - you model historians would know... The platform on the truck I think was scratch built using sprue and card stock (?). I vaguely remember the truck which I brush painted in chocolate brown enamel and rubbed out with automotive rubbing compound and then waxed. You can just make out a motorcycle with a GP fairing in the bed of the truck. I absolutely do not remember building the bike at all, but I must have since my modeling buddies all built planes. Did the bike come with the truck? Did the platform, too? Last year ('08) I posted the sole surviving model from my youth, another digger, this one probably from '62-'63. There used to be a wing on the front but it's long gone. For more details and pics here's a link: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.p...'s+Dragster
  5. I do like the 'puter paint scheme, but when the plastic speaks to you, you must follow!
  6. Glad to see this one. Looks like you're right on track (or backtrack...) to a nice Old School build. I have a sedan I have in the cue for later this year where I want to back date the mechanicals so I will be watching this one with great interest. Do you know where your dropped axle setup comes from?
  7. It wouldn’t be hard to do since this one goes back to ’06! Here are the links to Parts 1 & 2 of the build (this is Part 3). You’re gonna love it! Part One of Three (From March 29, 2006): http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.p...231&hl=Offy And Part Deux of Trois (From February 20, 2008): http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.p...094&hl=Offy
  8. I'm partial to the '41 which I loved when you first showed it, although as the owner of a '60 Frogeye I can certainly relate to that outstanding build as well!
  9. Love the chef's hat roof and the angled truck bed. No.3 gonna rock even harder than No. 2 did. You are a free formin', fine detailin', scratch buildin' maniac. "Don't stop me now, I gots to where I like it!"
  10. So nice to see them all here (including some, as seem to be generally the case, I somehow missed). There's nothing else like the Treehugger's style - technically stunning and massively original. My faves are the Shorty Chev, Ol' No.7, and the Merc styling buck ( ), but wait... how 'bout the awesome chopped '34 and the lovely T-Bird ... oh I give up. I just can't wait tp see what I'm certain will be mo betta in '09. The Rivingtons live in altered form! (lov the punked out backing track). Don't miss it. 11. I thinks it's grand. There are many pluses and few minuses. The only real negative I think is the potential clutter. I agree with Erik about a separate forum and with Lyle about the ONE picture per build convention (rule?) - these two suggestions will eliminate the clutter. Otherwise, for me it serves to bring back the memory of so many old favorites and as many new ones I somehow missed. To that end, it would be great to include links to the Under Glass post if one exists. Also, the opportunity to see multiple builds by the same modeler all at once gives me a sense of their creativity and style. For some the craftsmanship and consistency is astounding, for others it's the range and variety that just blows me away. But in every way it's ALL GOOD! BTW, the reason I posted my '08 builds (like so many others, I at first resisted it because I thought it was kind of an ego trip) was because prior to January 1st, it was happening quite a lot over on the TRaK board (where I think it was also a new thing - yes or no, Bob?) and I was enjoying it so much I had to join in. Like Ed I realized that regardless of my comparative level of skill I felt a certain pride of achievement in what I had pulled off over the past 12 months so... what the heck!
  12. Aha! It all comes clear to me now... The stripes will unify everything - not to mention highlighting the lovely lines of the Hauler's sectioned and molded full custom snout and the subtle curve of its sexy back end. Also, the glossy paint shows off the total success of the front fender contours (very modern and crisp - see expecially picture No.1 and the front of the fender outline as seen from rear in picture No.3). Can't wait to see the trailer with its stripes too. (No decals on the Hauler?) BTW, I forgot to ask how you got those outstanding white gauge faces on the dash.
  13. I especially like the '55 but there all nice clean straight up builds. And there are several I'm certain I've haven't seen before. Thanx for sharing!
  14. For me, the W.I.P. for the chopped '32 coupe was one of the highlights of '08 on the MCM board. All the best for '09!
  15. I think this shot shows all the massaging paid off. I think you nailed it. The best of both ... everything is beautifully integrated, The shape of the bodywork just above the bumper is especially inspired. And of course we're all envious that you can so readily rechrome the bumper after all that "plastic surgery"!
  16. I love this retrospective thing. I missed so many of these superb builds. One I didn't miss was the "Cybele" and it's one of the highlights on the MCM board for '08 IMHO. I agree, the '58 impala is a knockout and I really like the cutaway 'Vette, too. Maybe after people mention their faves you might post some links to the Under Glass for some these.
  17. Stunning as always. Love the rear window.
  18. Big Pix, yeah!!!! But this fish is still thirsty! Can't wait to see you finish this thing up. It's everything I remembered and looks even better in paint and detailing.
  19. Wow! Those are some really nice race cars. Thanks for the chance to revisit these. I remember the M1 and about about half of the Fords, but totally missed that really nice Top Fueler. Lotsa great subject matter very well done. Looking forward to more in '09!
  20. Nice to look back on these. The amazing variety, although in a way they're all clearly from the same builder, kind of snuck up on me. Nice to revisit the '58 - the first time around there was so much emphasis on the discussions over the wheels that I kinda missed the very nice front pan and grill customizing that complements the wheels and stance. The interesting thing about the '58 Chevies, of course, is that it was a one year model run as GM got blind-sided by Chrysler with Virgil Exner's hyper-agressive big fin Forward Look. Incrediblle to contemplate the expense and corporate will it took to fight the style wars on this scale!
  21. I agree with Raul, the blue Javelin is sweet, but I like that Big T, too (and I've always been partial to the Callaway MX concept). The closeups of the dio under bright sunlight look quite realistic. Very impressive!
  22. Simple, clean, slammed and nice! Pretty color, too.
  23. I remember this from last year. Glad to see it's back. I'd love to see it in larger pictures, though, so I can appreciate the tasty detail I recall this had.
  24. One thing's great about this look-back "tradition" that seems top be emerging - you get to revisit builds you might have totally forgotten about. That Desoto is soooo niiice. And I had completely forgotten about it. That was most definitely not a waste of that kit!
