The owner passed away recently. The company is no longer in business.

In spite of your own criticism, I think I looks great!

Very good builds, glad to see them...that movie was filmed at my home racetrack, the old Athens Ga Speedway, I was there for most of the filming.

Removing Tamiya Tape residue
roadhawg replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've never had Tamiya tape leave any residue whatsoever. I suspect that its not residue at all, but it was laid down before the base color was dry enough. However, if it really is residue, rub your finger on the side of your nose and buff the area with your fingertip. The natural skin oils will remove any residue. Wash with detergent afterward. -
Those are Wendell Scott cars from the movie "Greased Lightning". Are those yours?

No, its not. Most things like that get sent USPS priority, and you most certainly want delivery confirmation on it too....so no, shipping price is in line.

Your worst builds
roadhawg replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Other than the plug wires, I actually kinda like that. -
Legality of subject reproduction
roadhawg replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Legal or not, there's no way you can copy an entire kit in resin for $120, much less a third of that. Unless you own the Smooth On company or something. -
Making your own "wide 5" racing wheels/hubs
roadhawg replied to roadhawg's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Hey, thanks y'all, I had forgotten about this. Yes, you assume correctly. I haven't had any issues at all, but then again, there's no stress on these parts. If there was any weight on it, I don't know. -
Well I'll be dipped, I thought I had done the research....just goes to show, lol. OK...we'll call it a '76 tag then. That show lasted till what, 78? That'll work.

If you're still looking for decals for this, I have these available. Both versions are on the sheet. Includes correct 1974 California plates. There's actually enough here for 2 vehicles. PM me for details.

24 Hour Build: Jody Ridley '68 Falcon Short Tracker
roadhawg replied to roadhawg's topic in Model Cars
Thanks again, everyone!!! Thank you, sir. I'm fortunate enough to have a couple of Alps printers so I make my own decals, but they're ARE ways to give the illusion of white letters on certain dark surfaces using an inkjet printer. Everything you see on this dirt hobby car, including tire lettering, was done on an inkjet. When I get time, I may do a little tutorial. -
24 Hour Build: Jody Ridley '68 Falcon Short Tracker
roadhawg replied to roadhawg's topic in Model Cars
Thanks everyone! Nothing special there, all I added was a M.A.D. pre-wired distributor and an air cleaner from the parts box because I wanted the kit air cleaner for another project. It's not even Ford Blue....I thought I had some, but nope, I did not...went with AMC Big Bad Blue, lol. -
This was my project for this years annual 24 hour build. I've always wanted to do some of Georgia racing legend Jody Ridley's cars, so here was an opportunity to build one...his 1968 Falcon: I started yesterday at noon with an AMT '69 Falcon Modified Stocker. Turns out that's a real dog of a kit, lol. Modifications include raising the roll cage 1/4", as it sits too low from the box, replaced the wheels and tires with appropriate ones from the parts box, opened up the fenders more so I could sit the car lower, Used a rear window for the parts box (the kit doesn't have one), and wired the engine with a M.A.D. distributor. Paint is DupliColor White, Silver, and Electron Blue Pearl. Decals are my own. These 24 hours builds are tough, but a lot of fun. Things went ok, I was even able to get some sleep from 4 AM to 7 AM, and finished her up with almost an hour to spare. In case you think the trim work around the windows could be better, the real car had the windows duct-taped in place. Jody did that because he ran this car on both dirt and asphalt, and it was easier to take the windows in and out like that. I tried to replicate duct tape using Tamiya masking tape painted with a silver sharpie. I know its not perfect, but its a 24 hour job, lol. I probably wont be taking it to any shows, but I think it came out ok. Thanks for looking!

Removal of wipers
roadhawg replied to Fortheloveofgassers's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I too build race cars, so I feel your pain. I've considered just filling in the vent and using a decal to give the illusion of a vent....never actually tried it though.- 16 replies

Thanks again, everyone! I do a little decal work as sort of a hobby within a hobby. If you'd like some, PM me for details. Thanks.

Henry A. Yelinek Sr - '37 Ford NASCAR Racer build
roadhawg replied to Drake69's topic in WIP: NASCAR
Very cool project! There's a lot of interest in 1:1 vintage race cars now. Did the real car have the passenger seat? I would imagine some did. On my first race car, the guy that helped me build it painted "Rides 10 cents" on the door....he said we'd probably make more money that way than we would racin'. -
Thank you, everyone. Oooooooo.......now I'm thinking I should've gone with red. That's beautiful!

Very cool!

Thanks again, Y'all, I appreciate it! If anybody is interested, this years 24 hour build is next weekend, from noon Jan 24-noon Jan 25. Invite some buddies over, grab some kits, and take a stab at it. It's more fun than you might think! If you're on Facebook, search "Annual 24 hour build", and join in or just watch! I made those myself. PM me if you're interested.
