  1. Thanks, Y'all! I appreciate it. And yeah, I told him what a good idea it was, he said "Of course it was a good idea, you should listen to me more!" lol.
  2. I'm not much of a Nascar fan anymore, but my 12 year old kid is. A couple weeks ago, he was telling me about the throwback paint schemes they're supposed to be running at Darlington. Since I raced on dirt tracks back in the 70s, he said "Dad, if you were racing in Nascar, you could run a throwback paint scheme of your old dirt car!" I said "Yeah, I guess I could." He said "Hey, why don't we build a model of what it would look like?" LIGHT BULB!!! This is the Revell Dale Jr. snap kit, pretty much OOB, I'm not savvy enough about modern Nascar to do any detail work. Decals are my own. I tried to keep the flavor of my old car, while making it look modern. Logan's Texaco was my dad's place, and where I worked. He was my biggest supporter.(If you've ever heard the Colt Ford song "Back", this was "That Texaco that Mr. Logan use to own....") I'm too old to drive it, so I made my 12 year old kid the driver. I haven't been building much lately, but this was only a three day project and a ton of fun! I'm already thinking about doing some other modern versions of older dirt cars I raced against. First picture is the actual car, me on the left, my dad on the right.
  3. Both of these look good. I have a question. I'm not a Nascar builder, but I did acquire some of these. The fuel filler , to me, looks way too big...it actually swallows the decal that's supposed to around it there. Your #2 car looks right. Did you rework that area, or am I doing something wrong?
  4. Those on Ebay are incorrect. These are the ones you need: Pm me.
  5. Looks good. Keep it up, I'm taking notes!
  6. Looks great! Can't wait to start on mine now!
  7. I agree! That looks great!

  10. Awesome quartet! That Ford is my favorite!

  13. Beautiful build of an uncommon subject! Well done!
  14. Thanks a bunch, Y'all, I really appreciate it!
  15. Now that's different for sure! I'll be watching!
  16. This is the AMT '69 Chevelle hardtop. Changes include adding bits and pieces of styrene to the engine compartment to sort of "close things in". While I was in there, I replaced the valve covers and air cleaner with chrome pieces from my parts box, and moved the alternator to the right side. The interior is ok, but it's missing the headrests, which were on '69s. Ironically, the MPC '67 GTO has separate headrests, but the real car DIDN'T...so I lifted those. Chassis is box stock except for modern AMT Goodyear tires. Even the ride height is stock from the kit. Bodywise, I removed the lower trim which shouldn't be on an SS. I also found a way past those horrid tailights by just filling them in and making decal tailights...I know some are put off by using decals like that, but to me it gives it that distinct '69 Chevelle look. Paint is plain old Tamiya black, with red Valspar from Lowes for the interior. Decals are my own. I'm sure I've forgotten something, but hey, I'm an old man. It's certainly not a contest winner, but I'm happy with it as a 10 footer. Thanks for looking!
  17. Very cool, makes me want to dig my kit out! Thanks for sharing.
  18. Looking good so far! I've actually started on a modified myself, maybe I'll learn something here.
  19. I really like that! That Camaro grille is made for that! Perfect stance too.
  20. I can't seem to bring up my messages on my Android. Haven't tried it on computer yet. Maybe it's just me though.
  21. I'm not at home so I can't measure it for sure, but I believe the wheelbase is 4 and a half inches. That's pretty close anyway.
  22. Thank you, all! I appreciate it.
  23. One of the first Chevelle-bodied late models I remember from my teenage years at Athens (GA) Speedway was the 007 of local hero Rudy Burroughs. Rudy's parents owned a local restaurant and had deep pockets when it came to his racing habit. He was the big winner during the '72 season, and was looking to repeat in '73. Unfortunately, he lost his life in a non-racing incident before the season ever started. I've always wanted to build this one, so I finally gave it a shot. This is an AMT '65 Chevelle Modified Stocker kit that I converted to a '64 by using an old original AMY '64 hood and grill/bumper. The hardest part for me was getting it low enough...these kits sit pretty high, so there was a lot of "re-engineering" with springs and spring mounting points, and a bit of reworking the roll cage. I used as much of the kit as possible. The only extras are the tires and wheels (from my parts box), the aforementioned grill/bumper and hood, an aluminum air cleaner, and the wing, made from sheet styrene. Paint is Scalefinishes Lemonwood Yellow, decals are my own. Overall, I'm happy with it, and happy to add another to my Athens Speedway collection. Thanks for looking!
  24. I dunno. If it was MINE, ................
  25. Looks good! Love short track cars, especially from the 60s-70s.
